Comparison of Motor Skill Acquisition according to Types of Sensory-Stimuli Cue in Serial Reaction Time Task

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate whether types of sensory-stimuli cues in terms of visual, auditory, and visuoauditory cues can be affected to motor sequential learning in healthy adults, using serial reaction time task. Methods: Twenty four healthy subjects participated in this study, who were randomly allocated into three groups, in terms of visual-stimuli (VS) group, auditory-stimuli (AS) group, and visuoauditory-stimuli (VAS) group. In SRT task, eight Arabic numbers were adopted as presentational stimulus, which were composed of three different types of presentational modules, in terms of visual, auditory, and visuoauditory stimuli. On an experiment, all subjects performed total 3 sessions relevant to each stimulus module with a pause of 10 minutes for training and pre-/post-tests. At the pre- and post-tests, reaction time and accuracy were calculated. Results: In reaction time, significant differences were founded in terms of between-subjects, within-subjects, and interaction effect for group ${\times}$ repeated factor. In accuracy, no significant differences were observed in between-group and interaction effect for groups ${\times}$ repeated factor. However, a significant main effect of within-subjects was observed. In addition, a significant difference was showed in comparison of differences of changes between the pre- and post-test only in the reaction time among three groups. Conclusion: This study suggest that short-term sequential motor training on one day induced behavioral modification, such as speed and accuracy of motor response. In addition, we found that motor training using visual-stimuli cue showed better effect of motor skill acquisition, compared to auditory and visuoauditory-stimuli cues.

시각물체 추적 시스템을 위한 멀티코어 프로세서 기반 태스크 스케줄링 방법 (A Task Scheduling Strategy in a Multi-core Processor for Visual Object Tracking Systems)

  • The camera based object detection systems should satisfy the recognition performance as well as real-time constraints. Particularly, in safety-critical systems such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), the real-time constraints significantly affects the system performance. Recently, multi-core processors and system-on-chip technologies are widely used to accelerate the object detection algorithm by distributing computational loads. However, due to the advanced hardware, the complexity of system architecture is increased even though additional hardwares improve the real-time performance. The increased complexity also cause difficulty in migration of existing algorithms and development of new algorithms. In this paper, to improve real-time performance and design complexity, a task scheduling strategy is proposed for visual object tracking systems. The real-time performance of the vision algorithm is increased by applying pipelining to task scheduling in a multi-core processor. Finally, the proposed task scheduling algorithm is applied to crosswalk detection and tracking system to prove the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Controlling robot by image-based visual servoing with stereo cameras

  • In this paper, an image-based "approach-align -grasp" visual servo control design is proposed for the problem of object grasping, which is based on the binocular stand-alone system. The basic idea consists of considering a vision system as a specific sensor dedicated a task and included in a control servo loop, and we perform automatic grasping follows the classical approach of splitting the task into preparation and execution stages. During the execution stage, once the image-based control modeling is established, the control task can be performed automatically. The proposed visual servoing control scheme ensures the convergence of the image-features to desired trajectories by using the Jacobian matrix, which is proved by the Lyapunov stability theory. And we also stress the importance of projective invariant object/gripper alignment. The alignment between two solids in 3-D projective space can be represented with view-invariant, more precisely; it can be easily mapped into an image set-point without any knowledge about the camera parameters. The main feature of this method is that the accuracy associated with the task to be performed is not affected by discrepancies between the Euclidean setups at preparation and at task execution stages. Then according to the projective alignment, the set point can be computed. The robot gripper will move to the desired position with the image-based control law. In this paper we adopt a constant Jacobian online. Such method describe herein integrate vision system, robotics and automatic control to achieve its goal, it overcomes disadvantages of discrepancies between the different Euclidean setups and proposes control law in binocular-stand vision case. The experimental simulation shows that such image-based approach is effective in performing the precise alignment between the robot end-effector and the object.

시각 자극의 언어화에 의한 전역 선행성의 역전 (Verbalizing visual stimuli can reduce the global precedence effect)

  • 감각적 경험을 언어로 기술하면 그 경험에 관한 감각적 기억이 저하되는데, 이러한 현상을 일컬어 언어 장막(verbal overshadowing) 효과라고 한다. Schooler(2002)[1]는 언어화로 인해 정보처리 방식이 전역적 처리에서 국지적 처리로 전환되기 때문에 언어 장막이 발생한다고 제안하였다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 정보처리의 전환이 실제로 일어나는가를 검증하고자 얼굴 자극에 대한 기억을 요구하고 이를 토대로 언어적 묘사를 한 직후에 전역 처리와 국지 처리를 비교할 수 있는 Navon 과제를 실시하였다. 얼굴 재인 과제에서는 참가자들에게 외워야 하는 얼굴을 제시한 후 그 얼굴에 대한 언어화를 요구하였으며, 얼굴 재인 과제를 수행한 직후에 Navon 과제를 수행하도록 하였다. 그 결과, 얼굴 재인 과제에서는 언어화를 한 묘사 집단에서 언어화를 하지 않은 통제 집단보다 낮은 재인률을 보이는 언어 장막 효과가 나타났다. Navon 과제에서는 통제 집단이 전역수준의 정보가 국지 수준의 정보보다 우세하게 처리되는 전역 선행성(global precedence)을 보인 반면에, 묘사 집단은 전역 수준의 정보보다 국지 수준의 정보를 더 우세하게 처리하는 국지 선행성을 보였다. 이는 얼굴을 언어화함으로써 정보처리의 방식이 전역적인 방향에서 국지적인 방향으로 전환되고, 그 결과로서 얼굴에 대한 재인이 손상된 것임을 시사한다.

  • Recently, the vision system has the wide and growing' application field on account of the vast information from that visual mechanism. Especially, in the control field, the vision system has been applied to the industrial robot. In this paper, the object tracking and grasping task is accomplished by the robot vision system with a camera in the robot hand. The camera setting method is proposed to implement that task in a simple way. In spite of the calibration error, the stable grasping task is achieved using the tracking control algorithm based on the vision feature.

본태성 진전에서 시각의 영향 (Visual Cues in Essential Tremor)

  • Purpose : The pathophysiology of essential tremor(ET) remains unknown. PET studies of ET showed some conflicting data. One study reported significant glucose hypermetabolism of the medulla and thalami, but other studies reported abnormal bilateral overactivity of cerebellar and red nuclear connections. The previous experimental studies suggested that each PET finding reflects a part of neural circuit which is responsible for ET. So it can be imagined that olivocerebellar oscillation may be transmitted by the way of cerebellar projections to the thalamus in ET. It has been reported that the cerebellar dentate nucleus neurons are involved in the generation and/or guidance of movement based on visual cues. The purpose of this study is to clarify the role of dentato-thalamic tract in ET. Methods : Tremor amplitudes were recorded as each patient perform two kinds of task, one involving sensory-guided movement and the other involving memory-guided movement. Each patient was asked to move his/her index finger following a smoothly moving target. He/She also was asked to perform the same movements with his/her eyes closed ET. Results : The results showed that average amplitudes of tremor were significantly higer during visually guided task than during memory guided task in ET patients. Conclusions : Our results led us to conclude that dentato-thalamic tract might be related to the control of tremor in ET.

유사성(類似性) 판단(判斷)과 검사수행도(檢査遂行度)에 관한 연구 (An Effect of Similarity Judgement on Human Performance in Inspection Tasks)

  • An inspection task largely can be seen as a job divided up into a series of visual search and classification subtasks. In these subtasks, an Inspector must performs to compare the standard references proposed in visual environments and recalled in his memory with the visual stimuli to be inspected. It means that the judgement of similarity should be demanded on inspection tasks. Therefore, the inspector's ability for the judgement of similarity and the difference similarity between inspection materials are important factors to effect on performances in inspection tasks. In this paper, to analysis the effect of these factors on inspection time, an inspection task is designed and suggested by means of computer simulator. Especially, the skin conductance responses(SCR) of subjects are measured to evaluate the complexity of tasks due to the difference of similarity between materials. In the results of experiment, the more similar or different the difference of similarity between materials is, the shorter the inspection time is because of the reduction of task complexity. And, When the inspector's cognition for similarity between materials is consistanct, the inpsection time is improved. Concludingly, the consistency of reponses for similarity judgement becomes a measurement to present the performance levels. And the information of inspection time that due to the difference of similarity between materials must be considered in planning and scheduling inspection tasks.

한국어 시각단어재인에서 나타나는 이웃효과 (The Neighborhood Effect in Korean Visual Word Recognition)

  • We investigated whether the first syllable plays an important role in lexical access in Korean visual word recognition. To do so, one lexical decision task (LDT) and two form primed LDT experiments examined the nature of the syllabic neighborhood effect. In Experiment 1, the syllabic neighborhood density and the syllabic neighborhood frequency was manipulated. The results showed that lexical decision latencies were only influenced by the syllabic neighborhood frequency. The purpose of experiment 2 was to confirm the results of experiment 1 with form-primed LDT task. The lexical decision latency was slower in form-related condition compared to form-unrelated condition. The effect of syllabic neighborhood density was significant only in form-related condition. This means that the first syllable plays an important role in the sub-lexical process. In Experiment 3, we conducted another form-primed LDT task manipulating the number of syllabic neighbors in words with higher frequency neighborhood. The interaction of syllabic neighborhood density and form relation was significant. This result confirmed that the words with higher frequency neighborhood are more inhibited by neighbors sharing the first syllable than words with no higher frequency neighborhood in the lexical level. These findings suggest that the first syllable is the unit of neighborhood and the unit of representation in sub-lexical representation is syllable in Korea.

기억자극의 과제 무관련 세부특징 정보가 과제 관련 세부특징에 대한 시각단기재인에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Task-irrelevant Feature Information on Visual Short-term Recognition of Task-relevant Feature)

  • 시각단기재인 과정에 대한 유사성 합산 모형은 단기기억에 저장된 기억 표상들과 재인검사 자극간 유사성의 합산치가 재인의사결정을 좌우한다고 제안한다[1]. 본 연구는 수직 공간주파수를 달리하는 두 Gabor 자극에 대한 공간주파수 재인 과제에서 과제와 무관한 기억자극의 위치 정보가 재인 반응에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 실험의 매 시행에서 참가자는 시야 좌우에 제시된 서로 다른 두 Gabor 자극의 공간주파수를 기억하고 약 1초 뒤에 제시된 재인검사 자극과의 동일성 여부를 보고하였다. 재인검사 자극은 기억 항목과 동일하거나 기억된 항목을 기준으로 공간주파수 차원에서 1 또는 4 최소식별단위 만큼 표적과 유사한 미끼자극이었다. 또한 재인검사항목이 제시되는 위치는 재인이 요구된 기억항목의 위치를 기준으로 동일하거나 혹은 반대편 시야 위치에 제시되었으며, 참가자는 검사자극의 위치변화를 무시하고 공간주파수 차원의 재인 반응만을 요구받았다. 실험 결과 미끼자극에 대한 오인반응(false recognition)은 기억항목과 미끼자극 간 유사성 합산치가 커짐에 따라 증가했다. 아울러 과제와는 무관하게 검사항목의 위치 변화가 있었던 조건의 경우 없었던 조건에 비해 이러한 오인 반응의 빈도가 감소한 것으로 나타났다. 과제 무관련 위치 변화에 의한 미끼자극에 대한 오인 반응의 감소는 재인과제의 요구와는 관계없이 무관련 세부특징이 과제 관련 세부특징에 대한 재인 반응에 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 보여주며, 시각단기기억에 저장되는 정보가 세부특징들의 독립적 표상이 아닌 세부특징 간 공고한 결합에 의해 표상될 가능성을 시사한다.

탐색작업에서 한글 VDT를 화면의 최적설계 모수의 결정 (Determination of the Optimal Design Parameters for Search Task with VDT Screen Written in Korean)

  • There are four parameters (i.e. overall density, local density, grouping, layout complexity) to consider in designing screen of a visual display terminal. Among these, only the optimum level of overall density is known to be about 25~30% by some studies. Therefore, the present experiment is conducted to define the optimum levels of the other parameters to achieve the user's best performance in visual search task. The results are as follows; (1) The function related to the levels of local density and user's search times is shown to be U -shaped. When the level of local density is about 40%, the search time is shorter than those of any other levels. (2) In the experiment of grouping, user's performance is best when the number of group is 5, and the size of group does not exceed visual angle $5^{\circ}$ (0,088rad). (3) The user performance is improved as the layout becomes less complex.
