  • The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics by design component elements of the facade in elementary school buildings after the 7th educational curriculum. This study choose twenty five elementary school as the subjects of the study. And among many elevations of building, an elevation that is alongside of the schoolyard is chosen because this elevation has the highest visual influence on passers-by. To begin with, this elevation is divided into the roof and the surface of a wall, The roof is divided into roof styles, existence of roof and materials. The surface of a wall is divided into design principles(balance, contrast, rhythm), the formal organization(basic elements and form, and transformation of form), the ornamental composition, materials and colors. The results of the research are summarized as follows: First of all, motifs of classical architecture were well expressed in this period and postmodern tendency had been shown until 2005. After Build Transfer Lease(BTL), however, tendency of classical architecture, contrast by the size of the form and base element by point disappeared. Instead, asymmetrical and flat tendency is expressed. Also, emphasized design of the building elevation appear by basic colors of Munsell, not motifs of classical architecture.

  • This study evaluated how folly is experimented in the contemporary architecture after 30 years when Bernard Tchumi first introduced it to the public by the modern transformation as a garden ornament. First, folly project has been carried out based on the general concept of energizing dwindling cities. However, it has changed to the direction of adding specific programs. Also, along urban regeneration that does not change deterioration of previous structures, Folly changed in the emphasis on readjust existing structure. Second, by having different designers presenting their own follies during the Osaka Expo, folly now has part on visual exhibition element. This has similarity with public art project, yet it could more actively intervene for urban regeneration compared to conventional environment sculpture. Third, folly is experimented as the event-installation art combined form of architecture and art where people could experience the space and enjoy art. Fourth, folly enabled the landscaping of architecture and expanding city planning. Recently Gwangju Folly invited various arts, social, and cultural professionals to converge city design with architecture, landscaping, and other diverse genres.

  • Four experiments explored how the size ratio of two letter patterns affects jundgment times in a same-different matching task.Size, continuity of strokes, positions of the two vowel letters were systematically varied in order to test predictions, derved from the following hypotheses:Analogue transformation, position, use of diagnostic information, and decision sriteria.Size ratio influenced only reaction times for same responses and, more importantly, changes in the length of a horizintal line in a letter affected same responses more than the other feature.Taken together, the present experiments provide support for the diagnostic information hypothesis, while casting in doubt the other hypotheses on the nature of size transformations.

  • The nature of animation is to create a moving image. Also, it creates a narrative space and visual image which is different form a reality. Therefore, image expression is very important in the animation. Although the domestic animation has a movement, it has not an image which has meaning. For instance, Korean fiction animation ${\ulcorner}$My beautiful girl, Mary${\lrcorner}$ has grand prize in Anncy International Animated Film Festival, 2002. Such achievement give new vision and present a clue of development to our national animation. However, not many people went to the cinema to watch it. The reason is that although 'Mary' has the Fantastic image, she doesn't show a true life image. The film is revival of reality through the image. However, animation is revival of reality through the 'transformation' of the existing image. Therefore, reviving exactly the same as a reality is not the most important fact in the animation image. Preferably, the most important fact in the animation image is that reviving reality into highly wrought image. This paper will study an expression form of animation trough the image. This paper will study an expression form of animation trough the image. Especially, it will concentrate on poetic image. For this, It will associate 'poetic' in literature with 'poetic image' in animation. For this, It will associate 'poetic' in literature with 'poetic image' in animation. Also, a variety poetic animation image will be divided into 1)mongtage 2)rhythm 3) compression 4)metaphor & symbol, and will be looked 'poetic image' effect.

  • A intelligent mobile hexapod robot with various types of sensors and wireless camera is introduced. We show this mobile robot can detect objects well by combining the results of active sensors and image processing algorithm. First, to detect objects, active sensors such as infrared rays sensors and supersonic waves sensors are employed together and calculates the distance in real time between the object and the robot using sensor's output. The difference between the measured value and calculated value is less than 5%. This paper suggests effective visual detecting system for moving objects with specified color and motion information. The proposed method includes the object extraction and definition process which uses color transformation and AWUPC computation to decide the existence of moving object. We add weighing values to each results from sensors and the camera. Final results are combined to only one value which represents the probability of an object in the limited distance. Sensor fusion technique improves the detection rate at least 7% higher than the technique using individual sensor.

  • In this paper, we present a residual filter to improve performance of H.264 compressed video. In general, noisy video sequences captured by imaging system result in decline of coding efficiency and unpleasant coding artifacts due to higher frequency components. By incorporating local statistics and quantization parameter into filtering process, the spurious noise is significantly attenuated and coding efficiency is improved, leading to improvement of visual quality and to bit-rate saving for given quantization step size. In addition, in order to reduce the complexity of the residual filter, noise induced by analyzing H.264 transformation and quantization processes are introduced. The simulation results show the capability of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a Progressive scalable video coding algorithm using frequency weighting in the DCT domain. Since the human visual system (HVS) can be modeled as a nonlinear point transformation, called the modulation transfer function (MTF), we tan use the frequency weighting matrix to enhance the video image quality. We change this frequency weighting matrix into the frequency shift matrix to apply to the bit-plane coding method for the fine granular scalable (FGS) video coding We also define a new error metric JNDE (just noticeable difference) to measure the perceptual image quality in terms of human vision.

  • Up to now, process design of multistage profile drawing from initial round material is performed through trial-and-error based on experience of industrial experts. This means the increase in production cost and excessive time consuming. In this study, process design program was developed for multistage profile drawing from initial round material. The program was made using VisualLISP. Therefore, the program can be operated by AutoCAD program. In order to verify the effectiveness of the program, two stage profile drawing process for producing heavy duty guide rail was design by using the program. In addition FE analysis and profile drawing experiment were performed. As a result, the program can be used in order to design profile drawing process design.

  • This paper presents a compression scheme for mesh geometry, which is suitable for mobile graphics. The main focus is to enable real-time decoding of compressed vertex positions while providing reasonable compression ratios. Our scheme is based on local quantization of vertex positions with mesh partitioning. To prevent visual seams along the partitioning boundaries, we constrain the locally quantized cells of all mesh partitions to have the same size and aligned local axes. We propose a mesh partitioning algorithm to minimize the size of locally quantized cells, which relates to the distortion of a restored mesh. Vertex coordinates are stored in main memory and transmitted to graphics hardware for rendering in the quantized form, saving memory space and system bus bandwidth. Decoding operation is combined with model geometry transformation, and the only overhead to restore vertex positions is one matrix multiplication for each mesh partition. In our experiments, a 32-bit floating point vertex coordinate is quantized into an 8-bit integer, which is the smallest data size supported in a mobile graphics library. With this setting, the distortions of the restored meshes are comparable to 11-bit global quantization of vertex coordinates. We also apply the proposed approach to compression of vertex attributes, such as vertex normals and texture coordinates, and show that gains similar to vertex geometry can be obtained through local quantization with mesh partitioning.

  • In watermarking schemes, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is broadly used because its frequency component separation is very useful. Moreover, LU decomposition has little influence on the visual quality of the watermark. Hence, in this paper, a novel blind watermark algorithm is presented based on LU transform and DWT for the copyright protection of digital images. In this algorithm, the color host image is first performed with DWT. Then, the horizontal and vertical diagonal high frequency components are extracted from the wavelet domain, and the sub-images are divided into $4{\times}4$ non-overlapping image blocks. Next, each sub-block is performed with LU decomposition. Finally, the color image watermark is transformed by Arnold permutation, and then it is inserted into the upper triangular matrix. The experimental results imply that this algorithm has good features of invisibility and it is robust against different attacks to a certain degree, such as contrast adjustment, JPEG compression, salt and pepper noise, cropping, and Gaussian noise.
