A Study on Content-based Image Information Retrieval Technique (내용기반 영상정보 검색기술에 관한 이론적 고찰)

  • The growth of digital image an video archives is increasing the need for tools that efficiently search through large amount of visual dta. Retrieval of visual data is important issue in multimedia database. We are using contented-based visual data retrieval method for efficient retrieval of visual data. In this paper, we introduced fundamental techniques using characteristic values of image data and indexing techniques required for content-based visual retrieval. In addition we introduced content-based visual retrieval system for use of digital library.

  • As big data become more complex than ever, there has been a need for various techniques and approaches to better analyze and explore such big data. A research discipline of visual analytics has been proposed to help users' visual data analysis and decision-making. Since 2006 when the first symposium of visual analytics was held, the visual analytics research has become popular as the advanced technology in computer graphics, data mining, and human-computer interaction has been incorporated in visual analytics. In this work we introduce the visual analytics research by reviewing and surveying the papers published in IEEE VAST 2015 in terms of data and visualization techniques to help domestics researchers' understanding on visual analytics.

The Effects of Temporary Visual Block on the Foot Pressure and Foot Area of Chronic Stroke Patients (일시적인 시각차단이 만성 뇌졸중 환자의 지면 족저압 분포와 족부면적에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of temporary visual block existence and nonexistence on the change in foot pressure and foot area in stroke patients. Methods: Sixty-one chronic stroke patients volunteered to participate in the study. Foot pressure and foot area were measured using the Biorescue system. The subject maintain a comfortable standing position on the pressure-measuring plate one meter away from the computer. The sequence of the visual variation data while standing on the measuring plate was collected randomly. The data were collected with three repetitions and used the five-second measuring values except the first second and the last second according to each visual condition. All data were analyzed using SPSS version 21.0. The significance level for the statistical inspection was set as 0.05. Results: The comparison between the visual existence and nonexistence status showed statistically significant effects on foot pressure and foot area. The visual nonexistence status showed more improvement in foot pressure symmetry and area than visual existence status. Conclusion: This study shows that the foot pressure and foot area for the chronic stroke patients changed according to the visual states. It is predicted that these data will be used in rehabilitation training programs and to present temporary changes in visual status for stroke patients.

Visual Mapping from Spatiotemporal Table Information to 3-Dimensional Map (시-공간 도표정보의 3차원 지도 기반 가시화기법)

  • Information visualization, generally speaking, consists of three steps: transform from raw data to data model, visual mapping from data model to visual structure, and transform from visual structure to information model. In this paper, we propose a visual mapping method from spatiotemporal table information, which is related to events in large-scale building, to 3D map metaphor. The process has also three steps as follows. First, after analyzing the table attributes, we carefully define a context to fully represent the table-information. Second, we choose meaningful attribute sets from the context. Third, each meaningful attribute set is mapped to one well defined visual structure. Our method has several advantages. First, users can intuitively achieve non-spatial information through the 3D map which is a powerful spatial metaphor. Second, this system shows various visual mapping method applicable to other data models in the form of table, especially GIS. After describing the whole concept of our visual mapping, we will show the results of implementation for several requests.

Difference in the Visual Preference of the Bridges - The Case of the Han River - (교량의 시각적 선호도의 차이 - 한강의 교량을 대상으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate landscape image and define elements of difference in visual preference of bridges on the Han River. To do this end, video was used as a media for the evaluation of the landscape image of 16 bridges on the Han River using a Semantic Differential scale. Data is collected by 50 students from Woosuk University, majoring landscape architecture. Final analysis utilized a total of 704 samples of data. Data is analyzed through descriptive statistics, and spatial image is analyzed by factor analysis algorithm Principle component analysis using Varimax method is applied far extraction and factor rotation. T-test is used to find the difference between the bridge type of preference with the data of factor score. Logistic regression is used to select the factors that influences the visual preference among the image factors. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; The image of whole bridges on the Han River is somewhat orderly, sequential and open. The degree of visual preference of unique bridge type is higher than normal but there are some differences in visual preference within the same type of structure. This suggests that the surrounding landscape is one of the important factor for visual preference. Factors covering the image of bridge are found to be 'aesthetic', 'structure','spatial factor', and 'shape'. Total variance is obtained as 60.4%. The aesthetic variables are the most important factor for visual preference and the structural factor presents no significant difference in visual preference between more preferred and less preferred bridges. Since the collapse of Songsu Bridge, we thought the structural factor is very important but the results of this study suggest that it is more important to consider the aesthetic and spatial factors of the bridge to increase the visual preference when planning and designing bridges. Simulations with more detailed data about surroundings should be utilized practical design.

  • Spatial image processing software requires various user interactions to make a plan, prepare necessary data such as images, vectors, ancillary data and user-defined data, execute functions according to pre-defined procedures, analyze and store the results. In this manner, overall processes are controlled by user interactions. In this paper, we propose visual modeler which has the automated spatial image processing technique to minimize user interactions and re -use repeatable procedure. The proposed visual modeler is designed to use inter-operable components proposed by OpenGIS consortium as well as conventional COM components.

Consumption of Visual Cues in Computer-Mediated Environments

  • Purpose: In the digital age, visual cues in computer-mediated environments are becoming a very popular means of communication. Therefore, it is a very critical market for marketers to utilize for marketing communication and platform providers and manufacturers of mobile devices which create and distribute the visual cues While the prevalent research on visual cue consumption focuses on the positive side, the dark side of consuming visual cues has not been investigated. Therefore, in this research, the dark side of using visual cues, such as difficulties and problems in their application, will be investigated. Research design, data, and methodology: Due to the nature of this study, a netnography approach was adopted. Twitter which the users regularly utilise visual cues in their communications was a prime source for data of this research. Results: This research suggests that visual cue users experience anxiety about the subordination of expression and suffer from the myth of an ideal practice of expression. Conclusions: As the previous research emphasised the complementary role of visual cues, has failed to recognise the problems associated with the extensive and growing dependence on visual cues. This awareness demonstrates that we need to take a careful approach to visual cue usage.

Analysis of Building Energy by the Typical Meteorological Data (표준기상데이터(부산지역) 비교 및 분석)

  • Building is a major energy consumer, and now many efforts are made to save energy in the design and using equipments. The most noticeable achievement in those efforts is a building energy performance assessment program. But most programs are not satisfying enough to provide exact meteorological data, and data source and calculation, and data collection period are not clearly defined. That is common in most of domestic programs. This study collects typical meteorological data in 16 items and analyzes them with Visual DOE 4.0 to compare with existing data. The comparison found that revised data shows a 11% increase on average during cooling period from June to September, and a 13% decrease on average during heating period from December to February, in terms of building heating and cooling load in a monthly basis.

A Comparison Study on the Error Criteria in Nonparametric Regression Estimators

  • Most context use the classical norms on function spaces as the error criteria. Since these norms are all based on the vertical distances between the curves, these can be quite inappropriate from a visual notion of distance. Visual errors in Marron and Tsybakov(1995) correspond more closely to "what the eye sees". Simulation is performed to compare the performance of the regression smoothers in view of MISE and the visual error. It shows that the visual error can be used as a possible candidate of error criteria in the kernel regression estimation.

  • The amount of damage suffered from the red tide occurring at the near shore is increasing rapidly. The Windows visual system discussed in this paper is developed in order to help minimize the damage. The system is focused on the monitoring the coastal environment. and forecasting the red tide occurrence. Although several similar systems are now existing. most of them are based on the web application. which cause the large response time. limited presentation ability of data. and inability of data storing at client side. The Windows visual system described in this paper operates on the Internet to get the ubiquitous access. One of three components of the Windows visual system. client system is developed as a Windows application in order to overcome the weak points of the previous systems. The gathering. analysis, and monitoring of data can be done at real time using the Windows visual system.
