QoS-, Energy- and Cost-efficient Resource Allocation for Cloud-based Interactive TV Applications

  • Internet-based social and interactive video applications have become major constituents of the envisaged applications for next-generation multimedia networks. However, inherently dynamic network conditions, together with varying user expectations, pose many challenges for resource allocation mechanisms for such applications. Yet, in addition to addressing these challenges, service providers must also consider how to mitigate their operational costs (e.g., energy costs, equipment costs) while satisfying the end-user quality of service (QoS) expectations. This paper proposes a heuristic solution to the problem, where the energy incurred by the applications, and the monetary costs associated with the service infrastructure, are minimized while simultaneously maximizing the average end-user QoS. We evaluate the performance of the proposed solution in terms of serving probability, i.e., the likelihood of being able to allocate resources to groups of users, the computation time of the resource allocation process, and the adaptability and sensitivity to dynamic network conditions. The proposed method demonstrates improvements in serving probability of up to 27%, in comparison with greedy resource allocation schemes, and a several-orders-of-magnitude reduction in computation time, compared to the linear programming approach, which significantly reduces the service-interrupted user percentage when operating under variable network conditions.

Bolt-Loosening Detection using Vision-Based Deep Learning Algorithm and Image Processing Method (영상기반 딥러닝 및 이미지 프로세싱 기법을 이용한 볼트풀림 손상 검출)

  • In this paper, a vision-based deep learning algorithm and image processing method are proposed to detect bolt-loosening in steel connections. To achieve this objective, the following approaches are implemented. First, a bolt-loosening detection method that includes regional convolutional neural network(RCNN)-based deep learning algorithm and Hough line transform(HLT)-based image processing algorithm are designed. The RCNN-based deep learning algorithm is developed to identify and crop bolts in a connection image. The HLT-based image processing algorithm is designed to estimate the bolt angles from the cropped bolt images. Then, the proposed vision-based method is evaluated for verifying bolt-loosening detection in a lab-scale girder connection. The accuracy of the RCNN-based bolt detector and HLT-based bolt angle estimator are examined with respect to various perspective distortions.

An embedded vision system based on an analog VLSI Optical Flow vision sensor

  • We propose a novel programmable miniature vision module based on a custom designed analog VLSI (aVLSI) chip. The vision module consists of the optical flow vision sensor embedded with commercial off-the-shelves digital hardware; in our case is the Intel XScale PXA270 processor enforced with a programmable gate array device. The aVLSI sensor provides gray-scale imager data as well as smooth optical flow estimates, thus each pixel gives a triplet of information that can be continuously read out as three independent images. The particular computational architecture of the custom designed sensor, which is fully parallel and also analog, allows for efficient real-time estimations of the smooth optical flow. The Intel XScale PXA270 controls the sensor read-out and furthermore allows, together with the programmable gate array, for additional higher level processing of the intensity image and optical flow data. It also provides the necessary standard interface such that the module can be easily programmed and integrated into different vision systems, or even form a complete stand-alone vision system itself. The low power consumption, small size and flexible interface of the proposed vision module suggests that it could be particularly well suited as a vision system in an autonomous robotics platform and especially well suited for educational projects in the robotic sciences.

  • In this study, a vision system with image processing method have been introduced to find the edge radius of curvature. It was applied to inspect the edge quality of the deburring process product with brush grinding. Size of data was found to be critical in calculating the radius of curvature. Results using laser measurement system were compared.

  • This paper proposed LM method for solving bin-picking problem in robot vision. It has the processing steps such as image enchancement, image thresholding, region labelling, and moment computation. To determine a target object form bined objects, the modified labelling method is used. To determine position and orientation of holdsite, the moment method is used. Finally, some experiment results are illustated and compared with the results of conventional shrinking algorithm. The proposed LM method has reduced processing time.

  • Computer vision is applicated to measure the position and orientation of the SMD on 8mm Camcoder PCB and advanced image processing algorithms for high accuracy and real time processing are proposed. Illumination conditions are optimized for the best image formation and a set of LEDs is used as economic illuminator, which is regarded as a summation of many point sources. Conctete optical system is constructed and the performance of the proposed algorithm is verified by several experiments.

  • 본 논문에서는 pan/tilt 회전이 가능한 카메라 시스템을 이용한 캘리브레이션 기법에 대하여 소개한다. 제안된 방법을 이용하여 optical center, 초점거리를 추정할 수 있다. 캘리브레이션 대상물체로는 포인트(point)특징점을 이용하고 있으며 카메라 구동부에서 제공되는 각도 정보를 이용하며 캘리브레이션 대상 물체에 대한 기하학적 사전 지식이나 3 차원 정보를 필요로 하지 않는다 각각의 캘리브레이션 파라메타를 구하기 위해서 두 프레임을 필요로 한다. 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안된 캘리브레이션 방법의 실용 가능성을 보인다.
