  • The number of pedestrians is considered essential information which can be used to control a person who makes a entrance or a exit into a building. The number of pedestrians, also, can be used to help to manage pedestrian traffic and the volume of pedestrian flow within the building. Due to the fact there is incorrect detection by occluded, shadows, and illumination, however, difficulty can arise in existing system which is for detection and counts of a person who makes a entrance or a exit into a building. In this paper, it is minimized that the change of illumination and the effect of shadow through the transmitted image from camera which is created and processed with great adaptability. The accuracy of the calculations can be increase as well by using Kalman Filter and Mean-Shift Algorithm in order to avoid overlapped counts. As a result of the test, it is proved that the count method that shows the accuracy of 95.4% should be effective for detection and counts.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm, Concentric-Circle Tracing algorithm, which recognizes finger's shape and counts the number of fingers of hand using low-cost web-camera. We improve algorithm's usability by using low-price web-camera and also enhance user's comfortability by not using a additional marker or sensor. As well as counting the number of fingers, it is possible to extract finger's shape information whether finger is straight or folded, efficiently. The experimental result shows that the finger gesture can be recognized with an average accuracy of 95.48%. It is confirmed that the hand-gesture is an useful method for HCI input and remote control command.

  • Automatic image registration is an essential element of remote sensing because remote sensing system generates enormous amount of data, which are multiple observations of the same features at different times and by different sensor. The general process of automatic image registration includes three steps: 1) The extraction of features to be used in the matching process, 2) the feature matching strategy and accurate matching process, 3) the resampling of the data based on the correspondence computed from matched feature. For step 2) and 3), we have developed an algorithms for automated registration of satellite images with RANSAC(Random Sample Consensus) in success. However, for step 1), There still remains human operation to generate GCP Chips, which is time consuming, laborious and expensive process. The main idea of this research is that we are able to automatically generate GCP chips with comer detection algorithms without GPS survey and human interventions if we have systematic corrected satellite image within adaptable positional accuracy. In this research, we use SUSAN(Smallest Univalue Segment Assimilating Nucleus) algorithm in order to detect the comer. SUSAN algorithm is known as the best robust algorithms for comer detection in the field of compute vision. However, there are so many comers in high-resolution images so that we need to reduce the comer points from SUSAN algorithms to overcome redundancy. In experiment, we automatically generate GCP chips from IKONOS images with geo level using SUSAN algorithms. Then we extract reference coordinate from IKONOS images and DEM data and filter the comer points using texture analysis. At last, we apply automatically collected GCP chips by proposed method and the GCP by operator to in-house automatic precision correction algorithms. The compared result will be presented to show the GCP quality.

  • Remote sensing technology has been continuously developed both quantitatively and qualitatively, including platform development, exploration area, and exploration functions. Recently, the use cases and related researches in the agricultural field are increasing. Also, since it is possible to detect and quantify the condition of cropland and establish management plans and policy support for cropland and agricultural environment, it is being studied in various fields such as crop growth abnormality determination and crop estimation based on time series information. The purpose of this study was to analyze the vegetation index for agricultural land reclamation area using a UAV equipped with a multi-spectral sensor. In addition, field surveys were conducted to evaluate the accuracy of vegetation indices calculated from multispectral image data obtained using UAV. The most appropriate vegetation index was derived by evaluating the correlation between vegetation index calculated by field survey and vegetation index calculated from UAV multispectral image, and was used to analyze vegetation index of the entire area.

  • In the devices that leave video records, it is an important issue to distinguish whether the input image is a real object or a photo when securing an identifying image. Using a single image and sensor, which is a simple way to distinguish the target from distance measurement has many weaknesses. Thus, this paper proposes a way to distinguish a simple photo and a real object by using stereo images. It is not only measures the distance to the target, but also checks a three-dimensional effect by making the depth map of the face area. They take pictures of the photos and the real faces, and the measured value of the depth map is applied to the learning algorithm. Exactly through iterative learning to distinguish between the real faces and the photos looked for patterns. The usefulness of the proposed algorithm was verified experimentally.

  • Weakly electric fish uses active sensing to detect the distortion of self-generated electric field in the underwater environments. The active electrolocation makes it possible to identify target objects from the surroundings without vision in the dark sea. Weakly electric fish have many electroreceptors over the whole body surface of electric fish, and sensor readings from a collection of electroreceptors are represented as an electric image. Many researchers have worked on finding features in the electric image to know how the weakly electric fish identify the target object. In this paper, we suggest a new mechanism of how the electrolocation can recognize a given target object among object plants. This approach is based on the differential components of the electric image, and has a potential to be applied to the underwater robotic system for object localization.

  • This paper proposes an efficient hardware architecture to estimate disparities between 2D images for generating 3D depth images in a stereo vision system. Stereo matching methods are classified into global and local methods. The local matching method uses the cost functions based on pixel windows such as SAD(sum of absolute difference), SSD(sum of squared difference) and NCC(normalized cross correlation). The NCC-based cost function is less susceptible to differences in noise and lighting condition between left and right images than the subtraction-based functions such as SAD and SSD, and for this reason, the NCC is preferred to the other functions. However, software-based implementations are not adequate for the NCC-based real-time stereo matching, due to its numerous complex operations. Therefore, we propose a fast pipelined hardware architecture suitable for real-time operations of the NCC function. By adopting a block-based box-filtering scheme to perform NCC operations in parallel, the proposed architecture improves processing speed compared with the previous researches. In this architecture, it takes almost the same number of cycles to process all the pixels, irrespective of the window size. Also, the simulation results show that its disparity estimation has low error rate.

  • Recently, indoor sports simulator equipped with virtual reality devices, like screen golf system, are riding high. There have been many attempts to develop the indoor simulator systems which can make people enjoy exercises in various sports area. A real horseback riding could not have been popularized, because of the cost involved, difficulty to learn and its dangerousness. In this research, a robotic horseback riding platform based on parallel mechanism and virtual reality device is proposed. The proposed platform provides realistic riding feels and various levels of riding difficulty. The equipped motion capture system with a vision sensor enables riders to correct their riding posture based on expert's one. The developed horseback riding platform make it possible to enjoy a horseback riding in all weather, and also can be used for systematic horseback riding training.

  • In this paper, we describe gesture recognition algorithm using computer vision sensor and HMM. The automatic hand region extraction has been proposed for initializing the tracking of the tele-operation gestures. For this, distance informations(disparity map) as results of stereo matching of initial left and right images are employed to isolate the hand region from a scene. PDOE(positive difference of edges) feature images adapted here have been found to be robust against noise and background brightness. The KNU/KAERI(K/K) gesture instruction set is defined for tele-operation in atomic electric power stations. The composite recognition model constructed by concatenating three gesture instruction models including pre-orders, basic orders, and post-orders has been proposed and identified by discrete HMM. Our experimental results showed that consecutive orders composed of more than two ones are correctly recognized at the rate of above 97%.

  • Modular reconfigurable robots with physical docking capability easily adapt to a new environment and many studies are necessary for the modular robots. In this paper, we propose a vision-based fuzzy autonomous docking controller for the modular docking robots. A modular docking robot platform which performs real-time image processing is designed and color-based object recognition method is implemented on the embedded system. The docking robot can navigate to a subgoal near a target robot while avoiding obstacles. Both a fuzzy obstacle avoidance controller and a fuzzy navigation controller for subgoal tracking are designed. We propose an autonomous docking controller using the fuzzy obstacle avoidance and navigation controllers, absolute distance information and direction informations of robots from PSD sensors and a compass sensor. We verify the proposed docking control method by docking experiments of the developed modular robots in the various environments with different distances and directions between robots.
