  • The polycondensates of isophthalic acid-cinnamic acid-glycerine system were synthesized. The molecular weights of these products were determined by two methods, viscosity method and osmotic pressure methods. In the synthesis of resin, the reaction temperature was kept at 232$^{\circ}C$ and the mole ratio of the reactants was chosen as follows: Glycerine ;1.0 Isophthalic acid ;1.0 Cinnamic acid ;2.8 Excessive cinnamic acid prevented gelation of reaction mixtures. As the solution became very dilute, reduced osmotic pressure P/C (at the concentration of solution below 0.24g/100 ml of acetone) and reduced viscosity ${\eta}_{sp}/C$ (at the concentration of solution below 0.32 g/100 ml of acetone) increased rapidly. The correspondence between molecular weights determined by the two methods made Huggin's equation applicable to the prepared polymer. The values of K and a are $2.77{\times}10^{-5}$ and 1.063, respectively.

  • The rheological properties of some honey-ginseng powder mixturs, used as pharmaceutical pills, were studied extensively by employing five kinds of honey, acacia, chestnut, buckwheat, green perilla and bush clover. Relation between the viscosity of the sample mixtures and the concentrations of ginseng powder and the temperature effect on the internal change of the structure were studied. The results obtained are as follows: 1) A complete gel formation of honey-ginseng mixtures was observed when about 50 days have passed after the sample preparation. 2) The viscosity of honey-ginseng powder mixtures was related with the concentration of ginseng powder, the temperature and the period of time required in gel formation as shown in the following equation. n=noexp$[{\kappa}_{1}c^{n1}+{\kappa}_{2}(T-273)^{-n2}+{\kappa}_{3} t^{n3}]$

  • The kneading process and formulations of feedstock obviously affect the quality of MIM products. In the present work, the rheological behaviour of the composite MIM feedstock, metal matrix (Cu) with few additions of ceramic powders $(Al_2O_3)$, was measured by a self-designed/manufactured simple capillary rheometer. Experimental results show that the distribution between powders and binder is more uniformly when blending time increased. Though high powder loading will increase the feedstock viscosity, the fluidity reveals relatively stable through the load curves of extrusion. Besides, the temperature-dependence of viscosity of the feedstock approximately follows an Arrehnius equation. Basing on Taguchi's method, the kneading optimization conditions and the rheological model of the feedstock were established, respectively.

  • Gel-like compounds containing flammable solvents were prepared to use fur cleaning agents in field of innovative industries and general purposes. And experiments were conducted to improve the defects of liquified flammable solvents from the view point of safety and health hazards. Flammable solvents used in this study were several single component flammable solvents(turpentine oil, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(NMP), d-limonene) and multi component flammable solvent(gasoline and ethanol). For gelation of flammable solvents, commercially Known as Aerosil(equation omitted) 200 fumed silica and triethanolamine(TEA) were used as gelation agent dispersant. The analyses on properties of gel-like compounds was studied by gelation and viscosity test pH test, volatility test and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) measurement. The experimental results indicate that gel-like compounds containing flammable solvents have pH stability, high viscosity, volatile organic compounds(VOC) control by the decrease of volatility and odor component generation, fluidity control etc. From the experimental values, it can be predicted that the safety in the working place is improved by manufacturing flammable solvents into gel-like compounds.

  • The glass transition temperature, dynamic shear moduli, and bulk viscosities of PVC, filled with nickel particles, were investigated. The glass temperature of the composite increased with increasing filler concentration. The data were interpreted by assuming that the interaction between filler particles and the polymer matrix reduces molecular mobility and flexibility of the polymer chains in the vicinity of the interfaces. The relative modulus for the PVC/Ni composite system followed the Kerner equation. The relative viscosities were strongly temperature dependent and did not agree with the conventional viscosity predictions for suspensions. It is suggested that the filler has a twofold effect on the viscosity of the composite materials; one is due to its mechanical presence and the other is due to modification of part of the polymer matrix caused by interaction. This phenomenon is approximately bounded by Kerner's predictions for suspensions.

  • Improving eating quality is one of the most important objectives in japonica rice breeding programs in Yunnan Province of China. Eating quality and its relevant traits of nine Korean and 11 Yunnan rice cultivars were comparatively analyzed in this study. The grain shape of most Yunnan japonica rice cultivars have a relatively slender shape and are slightly larger than Korean rice cultivars. Palatability value of cooked rice of Yunnan rice cultivars was significantly lower, while the protein content of Yunnan rice cultivars was significantly higher than that of Korean cultivars. Peak viscosity and breakdown viscosity of the Yunnan rice cultivars were significantly lower, while setback viscosity of the Yunnan rice cultivars was significantly higher than in Korean rice cultivars. Palatability value of cooked rice was negatively correlated with protein content and setback viscosity but positively correlated with peak viscosity, breakdown viscosity, and cool paste viscosity. Through multiple linear regression analysis, an equation for estimating palatability value(PV) of cooked rice based on quality traits was generated as dependent only upon protein content(PC), PV=139.024-(10.865$\times$PC) with an $R^2$ value of 0.822. The results suggest that reducing protein contents should be the major target in improving eating quality of Yunnan japonica rice cultivars through integrated approaches of both cultivar development and appropriate cultural practices. Genetic similarities among cultivars based on DNA markers which had been identified as associated with grain quality seemed not to be directly related to PV.

  • Effects of pH and molecular weight on the intrinsic viscosity of carboxymethyl chitin (CM-chitin) in dilute regime were studied. When the prepared CM-chitin was dissolved in 0.1M NaCl solution at $30^{\circ}C$, the intrinsic viscosity, molecular weight and degree of substitution of CM-chitin were 1.23dl/g, 15,500 and 0.62, respectively. The lower intrinsic viscosity $([\eta])$ of CM-chitin was showed at the lower pH than 7.0 and the higher pH (>7.0) did not result in any increase in intrinsic viscosity. Intrinsic viscosity decreased from 3.1dl/g to 2.55d1/g in water at $25^{\circ}C$ and from 15,500 to 12,600 as molecular weight for 20min of sonication treatment. The Mark-Houwink constant K and v of CM-chitin in water at $25^{\circ}C$ were $3.48\times10^-4$ and 0.94, respectively. So intrinsic viscosity could be expressed using molecular weight as followed equation; $[\eta]=3.48\times10^{-4}M^{0.94}$, consistent with random roil behaviour.

  • The values of physical properties of the inert gases of Ar, $N_2$, $CO_2$ were calculated by the empirical equations. The regression coefficients were obtained by the experimental data and the resulting calculated values. For the empirical equation with a lower regression coefficient, a new correlation was suggested. At an atmosphere pressure, the empirical equation was confirmed by the experimental values for the viscosity, density, saturated pressure, and surface tension of Ar, $N_2$, $CO_2$. The correlation coefficients of the empirical equations proposed in this work was higher than 0.99.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze and discuss the effects of surface roughness by comparing the elastohydrodynamic lubrication(EHL) analysis of smooth surface and rough surface as the ball bearing. In order to do this, The average flow model is adapted for the interaction of the flow rheology of lubricant and surface roughness. The average Reynolds equation and the related flow factor which describes the coupled effects of surface roughness and flow rheology, the viscosity-pressure and density-pressure relations equations, the elastic deformation equation, and the force balance equation are solved simultaneously. The results show that effects of surface roughness on the film thickness and pressre distribution should be considered especially in EHL contact problems.

  • Alkali-surfactant polymer flooding has become an important technique to improve oil recovery following the development of oil fields while the function of emulsification in enhanced oil recovery is rarely considered in the existing mathematical model for numerical simulation. In this paper, the mechanism of improving the recovery of the emulsification was analyzed in ASP flooding, and a relatively perfect mathematical model with deep filtration-theory was established, in which oil-water volume equation, saturation equation, viscosity equation, and permeability reduction equation are included. The new model is used to simulate the actual block of an oil field; the simulated results of the new model and an old model without considering the emulsification are compared with the actual well history. It is found that new model which is easy to be realized in numerical simulation has a high precision fitting, and the effect of adding oil and decreasing water is obvious. The sensitivity of emulsification was analyzed, and the results show that the water reducing funnel becomes wider and the rate of water cut decreases rapidly with the increase of emulsifying capacity, and then the rate of recovery slows down. The effect of increasing oil and decreasing water is better, and the degree of recovery increases. The emulsification of the ASP flooding is maintained at a moderate level, which corresponds to ${\Phi}=0.2$ in the new model, and the emulsification is applied to realize the general mathematical quantitative description, so as to better guide the oilfield development.
