The realization by many industrial countries that manufacturing is a critical ingredient for attaining economic strength and stability has led to the development of automated systems which were proviously considered as gimmicks. The adaptive skill of the human operator is now being simulated and reproduced by computer that have become more powerful and less expensive. The work presented in this paper forms an investigation of the effects of dynamic viscosity and load of hydraulic oil an pressures with three different circuit(meter-in, meter-out and bleed off). The experimental results showed that pressures increase with an increase in dynamic viscosity and load in bleed off circuit, but there is no variation of pressure in meter-In meter-out circuit.
The effects of agitation and aeration for exopolysaccharide(EPS) production through batch cultivation of an Enterobacter sp. isolated from the composter were investigated. During the EPS fermentation under conditions of constant agitation speed from 200 to 900 rpm and constant aeration rate of 0.5-2.5 vvm, the low yields of EPS(4.8-5.2g/L) was observed as the viscosity increase of culture broth. With the stepwise increases in agitation speed and aeration rate, the EPS production and the viscosity of EPS were increased 1.3~1.4 times and 2.3~3.6 times higher than those of the fixed conditions, respectively. Therefore, these stepwise increases were considered as the key operating parameters for enhancing EPS production. The max. EPS(6.8g/L) and viscosity(14,000cp) were obtained when the agitation speed was increased from 300 to 900 rpm for 54hrs at 1.5 vvm.
Micron-size mechanical devices are becoming more prevalent, both in commercial applications and in scientific inquiry. Within the last decade, a dramatic increase in research activities has taken place, mostly due to the rapidly expanding growth of applications in areas of MEMS(Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems), bioengineering, chemical systems, and advanced energy systems. In this study, we have described the effects of vortex viscosity variation on the flowfields in a micro-slot between rotating surfaces of revolution using a micropolar fluid theory. In order to solve this problem, we have used boundary layer equations and applied non-zero values of the microrotation vector on the wall. The results are compared with the corresponding flow problems for Newtonian fluid. Results show that the coefficient $\delta$ controls the main part of velocity ${\upsilon}_x$ and the coefficient M controls the main part of microrotation component ${\Omega}_{\theta}$.

Aqueous extraction of sea tangle at the temperature range of 60~10$0^{\circ}C$ was studied for temperature effects on soluble solids and protein yields, amino nitrogen, turbidity and viscosity of extracts. The solids and protein yield were increased as the temperature increased and most of solids and protein were extracted during 1 hour. The supernatant ratio after centrifugation showed significantly low for the extraction at 6$0^{\circ}C$. More temperature effects were found on turbidity and viscosity than yields. A significantly higher total amino nitrogen contents was obtained from higher temperature at initial stage of extraction and then the differences of them became to be narrow as the extraction prolonged further. The low values of 24.1% solids and 13.5% protein yields after 2 hours of extraction at 10$0^{\circ}C$ indicated that most of solids in sea tangle are insouble.

Until recently performance requirements for automatic transmission fluids have continued to change to reflect the design changes of automatic transmission. The major purpose for these design changes is to improve the fuel economy and easy driving. To meet recent performance requirements fur automatic transmission the needs for special base oils Bike API Group III and IV base oils become larger. In this paper to evaluate the effects of base oils on performance of automatic transmission fluids formulated with API Group I,II,III and IV and Dexron III and Hereon Type additive package, Brookfield viscosity, oxidation test, SAE No.2 friction test and seal compatibility test were examined. From the test we knew that the use of Croup III and IV base oils in ATF has several benefits in low temperature viscosity, oxidation stability and SAE No.2 friction characteristics.
Objective : The objective of this study was to analyze patient-specific blood flow in ruptured aneurysms using obtained non-Newtonian viscosity and to observe associated hemodynamic features and morphological effects. Methods : Five patients with acute subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by ruptured posterior communicating artery aneurysms were included in the study. Patients' blood samples were measured immediately after enrollment. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was conducted to evaluate viscosity distributions and wall shear stress (WSS) distributions using a patient-specific geometric model and shear-thinning viscosity properties. Results : Substantial viscosity change was found at the dome of the aneurysms studied when applying non-Newtonian blood viscosity measured at peak-systole and end-diastole. The maximal WSS of the non-Newtonian model on an aneurysm at peak-systole was approximately 16% lower compared to Newtonian fluid, and most of the hemodynamic features of Newtonian flow at the aneurysms were higher, except for minimal WSS value. However, the differences between the Newtonian and non-Newtonian flow were not statistically significant. Rupture point of an aneurysm showed low WSS regardless of Newtonian or non-Newtonian CFD analyses. Conclusion : By using measured non-Newtonian viscosity and geometry on patient-specific CFD analysis, morphologic differences in hemodynamic features, such as changes in whole blood viscosity and WSS, were observed. Therefore, measured non-Newtonian viscosity might be possibly useful to obtain patient-specific hemodynamic and morphologic result.
To investigate the effects of swelling treatment by ammonia on characteristics of carboxymethy1cellulose(CMC) and CMC solution, the domestic kraft pulp pretreated with 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% $NH_4OH$ solution, was carboxymethylated by the standard method, and then the CMC prepared was tested. The physical properties of CMC and CMC solution, such as degree of substitution, transparency. viscosity, weight increase and solubility, were measured, and the comparison with commercial domestic CMC used as a food additive was done. The results obtained were as follows; 1. In CMC manufactured by standard solvent method, hardwood bleached kraft pulp(LBKP) was more substituted than safwood bleached kraft pulp(NBKP), and viscosity of NBKP was higher than that of LBKP. 2. When ammonia swelling treatment was done, degree of substitution gradually decreased with increasing concentration of $NH_4OH$, and degree of substitution of LBKP decreased with a larger range than that of NBKP. 3. When ammonia swelling treatment was done. transparency of CMC solution from LBKP was hardly effected, but in case of NBKP gradually increased with increasing concentration of $NH_4OH$. 4. When ammonia swelling treatment was done, viscosity of CMC solution was higher than that of CMC solution without ammonia swelling treatment. Especially, CMC of high viscosity could be manufactured in 5%, 10% concentration levels of $NH_4OH$. 5. In CMC manufactured from domestic NBKP, CMC at the range of 0.40 to 0.50 in DS was dispersed easily and quickly dissolved, and CMC at more than 0.50 in DS was dispersed slowly in water solution. 6. In comparison with commercial domestic CMC used as a food additive, CMC manufactured from domestic NBKP was higher in DS, and was lower in viscosity and transparency.
Vertical structures of wind-driven and tidal currents in a rectangular shaped uniform-depth basin of homogeneous water have been investigated using a mode-splitted, multi-level grid-box, hydrodynamic numerical model. The model was verified using analytical solutions for various vertical eddy viscosity profiles such as: a constant eddy viscosity, a linearly decreasing or increasing variation with depth, a quadratic variation with depth and an exponential variation with depth. Particular attention has been paid on the effects of "near-surface wall layer" on vertical shear of velocity. In numerical calculations, the whole water depth was divided into 13 levels with an unequal grid spacing. the model satisfactorily reproduces the velocity profile, but in case the eddy viscosity decreases rapidly with depth as in quadratical or exponential variation with depth, the vertical gradient of velocity near the bottom became very steep, and analytical solutions and numerical results showed some discrepancy. The vertical structures of horizontal velocity vary with both the depth-averaged value of eddy viscosity and its profiles. the velocity near the sea surface and near the bottom responded sensitively to the eddy viscosity of wall layer. For wind-driven current, the strong velocity shear was generated near the sea surface as eddy viscosity near the surface became small. For tidal current, the velocity above the sea bottom layer was almost constant regardless of the profiles of vertical eddy viscosity, but velocity in the sea bottom layer showed strong shear as eddy viscosity became small.
Interest in advanced machining process such as AJM(abrasive jet machining) and CMP(chemical-mechanical polishing) using micro/nano-sized abrasives has been on the increasing demand due to wide use of super alloys, composites, semiconductor and ceramics, which are difficult to or cannot be processed by traditional machining methods. In this paper, the effects of pressure, wafer moving velocity and fluid viscosity were investigated by 2-dimensional finite element analysis method considering slurry fluid flow. From the investigation, it could be found that the simulation results quite corresponded well to the Preston's equation that describes pressure/velocity dependency on material removal. The result also revealed that the stress and corresponding material removal induced by the collision of particle may decrease under relatively high wafer moving speed due to the slurry flow resistance. In addition, the increase in slurry fluid viscosity causes the reduction of material removal rate. It should be noted that the viscosity effect can vary with the shape of abrasive particle.
For crystalline slags, of which the viscosity rapidly increases at $T_{cv}$ due to the formation of crystalline phases, the Tcv is affected by measurement conditions. In this study, we investigated the effect of cooling rate, and alumina dissolution on the determination of $T_{cv}$. Using synthetic slag samples based on the composition of Alaska Usibelli slag, $T_{cv}$ were determined under a constant cooling rate of $2^{\circ}C$/min, and under rapid cooling with holding time to allow the slag to reach thermal and rheological equilibrium. The effect of alumina dissolution was investigated using platinum lined crucibles. The constant cooling resulted in lower $T_{cv}$ by $33^{\circ}C$ as compared to the equilibrium measurements. Under $2^{\circ}C$/min cooling, the blocking alumina dissolution resulted in lower $T_{cv}$ by $23^{\circ}C$. When the $T_{cv}$ was measured under $2^{\circ}C$/min cooling using an alumina crucible, therefore, the effects of a constant cooling is somewhat offset by the alumina dissolution effect, and bring the measured value closer to the true value.
