Analysis of the effect of flow-induced crystallization on the stability of low-speed spinning using the linear stability method

  • The stability of low-speed spinning process exhibiting spinline flow-induced crystallization (FIC) with no neck-like spinline deformation has been investigated using the method of linear stability analysis. Effects of various process conditions such as fluid viscoelasticity and the spinline cooling on the spinning stability have been found closely related to the development of the spinline crystallinity. It also has been found that the FIC makes the system less stable or more unstable than no FIC cases when the spinline crystallinity reaches its maximum possible value, whereas the FIC generally stabilizes the system if the crystallinity doesn't reach its maximum value on the spinline. It is believed that the destabilizing effect of the FIC on low-speed spinning when the crystallinity is fully developed on the spinline is due to the reduction of the real spinning length available for deformation on the spinline. On the other hand, the increased spinline tension caused by the FIC when the maximum crystallinity is not reached on the spinline and thus no reduction in the spinning length occurs, makes the sensitivity of spinline variables to external disturbances smaller and hence stabilizes the system. These linear stability results are consistent with the findings by nonlinear transient simulation, as first reported by Lee et al. (2005b).

고체추진제의 파괴인성에 대한 온도 및 두께의 영향 (Effect of Temperature and Thickness on Fracture Toughness of Solid Propellant)

  • 균열이 발생된 고체추진제는 연소면적 증가에 따른 과연소 현상으로 인해 로켓의 손상 또는 파괴까지 일어날 수 있기 때문에 파괴인성을 평가하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 이 재료에 파괴인성에 미치는 온도 및 두께의 영향을 확인하기 위하여, 시험 온도는 $-60^{\circ}C$에서 $60^{\circ}C$ 범위, 시편의 두께는 4, 12.5, 24.5 mm 의 3 종류로 변화하여 Center cracked tension(CCT) 시편을 이용하여 파괴인성을 평가하였다. 본 시험 결과로부터 파괴인성은 온도 증가와 함께 감소하는 경향을 보이고 두께 변화에 대한 파괴인성은 $-60^{\circ}C$를 제외한 다른 온도조건에서 두께 12.5 mm 일 때 가장 크게 나타나고 있다. 고체추진제의 파괴인성은 $-60^{\circ}C$부근에서 유리전이거동에 의한 변화하는 것을 알 수 있다.

PLA/PBAT 블렌드의 개질과 열적, 기계적 특성 (Modification of PLA/PBAT Blends and Thermal/Mechanical Properties)

  • 본 연구에서는 생분해성 지방족 폴리에스터 중 비교적 고가인 poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT)와 상대적으로 저가의 생분해성 고분자인 polylactic acid (PLA)의 블렌드에 3종류의 개질제를 사용하여 그 효과를 조사하였다. 개질제로는 에폭시계의 커플링제와 diisocyanate계열의 methylenediphenyl 4,4'-diisocyanate (MDI)와 hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI)를 사용하였다. 여러 가지 조성의 블렌드에 용융흐름지수, 동적 점탄성을 조사하였다. 또한, 인장시험을 통한 기계적 물성 조사와 FE-SEM으로 시편의 파단표면을 관찰하였다. 이를 통해 PLA/PBAT 블렌드의 상용성과 개질제의 효과 및 기계적물성에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 개질제로 HDI를 사용했을 때 PLA/PBAT의 인장물성이 크게 증가하였다.

연신 및 열처리 조건이 PET film의 미세구조에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Drawing and Annealing Condition on the Fine Structure of PET Film)

  • In order to investigate the fine structure of PET films, PET films were stretchd at various draw ratios (2, 3, 4, 5) below $T_g$ ($72^{\circ}C$) and then annealed at various temperatures (125, 150, 175, $200^{\circ}C$) under free-annealed (FA) and taut-annealed (TA) conditions. Such changes as thermal shrinkage, crystallinity, crystallite size, dynamic viscoelasticity and thermal behaviour were measured in relation to the draw ratio and annealing condition.The following results were obtained. 1. Thermal shirinkage increased with increasing annealing temperature and draw ratio, but decreased in case of draw ratio 4 (draw ratio 3 at $200^{\circ}C$) and above it. 2. The degree of crystallinity of FA samples were higher than those of TA samples. 3. Tan 5 of TA samples were less than those of FA samples, and storage moduli (E') and loss moduli (E") of FA samples were less than those of TA samples; moreover, maximum tan '||'&'||' temperature of FA samples were shifted toward higher temperature than those of TA samples. 4. The melting endotherm ($T_m$) and heat of fusion $(\DeltaH)$ of the PET film increased with the draw ratio and annealing temperature; in addition, premelting endotherm ($T_m$) and heat of fusion $(\DeltaH)$ of the local crystallization in the FA samples were larger than those of TA samples. 5. The X-ray diffraction pattern displayed sharp peaks gradually with the draw ratio and annealing temperature. 6. Crystallite sizes of FA samples were larger than those of TA samples.

글리콜 몰비가 다른 불포화 폴리에스테르 수지의 제조 및 물성에 관한 연구 : 3. UPE 액상 수지의 임계표면장력 및 점탄성 평가 (A Study on the Preparation of UPE Resins with Different Glycol Molar Ratios and Their Physical Properties : 3. Estimation of Viscoelastic and Critical Surface Tension of UPE Liquid Resins)

  • 불포화 폴리에스테르(unsaturated polyester : UPE) 수지를 다가알콜 (propylene glycol : PG, neopentyl glycol : NPG)의 각 몰비를 조정하여 포화 이염기산(isophthalic acid : IPA)과 불포화 이영기산 (maleic anhydride : MA)의 혼합물로 축합반응으로 제조하였다. 고체의 표면특성을 결정짓는 임계표면장력(${\gamma}_{c}$)을 Zisman plot으로 평가하였고, 또한 수지의 구조와 물성과의 관게를 레올로지 측정으로 조사하였다. 고체 glass에 의한 (${\gamma}_{c}$)은 UPE 수지 액체들에 대해서 30.5mN${\cdot}m^{-1}$를 얻었고, PG/NPG 몰비중 NPG 함량이 증가할수록 UPE 수지 용액의 접촉각과 표면장력이 감소됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 글리콜 몰비가 다른 UPE 수지의 동적 점탄성을 측정하면 정상류 점도의 전단속도 의존성, 동적 탄성율의 각 주파수 의존성에 의해 순수한 PG보다는 NPG의 함량이 증가할수록 낮은 값을 얻을 수 있었다.

침자 술기 실습 모델에서 침감의 정량적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Quantitative Characteristics of Needle Force on the Acupuncture Practical Model)

  • Objectives : In this study, we quantitatively evaluated the needle forces using needle insertion-measurement system and compared the needle sensation of each acupuncture practical model. Methods : After inserting acupuncture with a sensor to six models, a lifting-thrusting motion was implemented using the needle insertion-measurement system. The needle force was measured repeatedly, and the measurement was analyzed based on the modified Karnopp friction model for a comparison of friction coefficients. After the insertion, practitioners did lifting-thrusting manipulations. They quantified the similarity of needle sensation with VAS (Visual Analogue Scale). Results : When friction force and coefficients of friction in five different models were compared with a porcine shank model, all five models were significantly different from a porcine shank model, cotton and apple showing the closest frictional values to that of a porcine shank model. In the Cp and Cn values of cotton and in the Cp values of IM injection pad, there was no statistically significant difference. The similarity of the needle sensation between the porcine shank and five models was the highest in the apple, and overlapping papers was the lowest. Conclusions : This study quantitatively compared the physical forces in the practical model when implementing lifting-thrusting manipulations, using a needle insertion-measurement system. We suggest that a reproducible exercise model that reflects the characteristics of various human tissues, such as viscoelasticity or strength, needs to be further developed. This will contribute to establishing standardized acupuncture practice training.

보존에 따른 녹두 전분 gel의 관능적, 텍스쳐 특성변화 (Changes in Sensory and Textural Properties of Mungbean Starch Gels during Storage)

  • 녹두 전분 겔을 온도(5$^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$) 및 기간별(1, 24, 48, 72시간)로 보존하여 겔의 색도, 이수현상, 텍스쳐, 관능적 특성 등에 대하여 조사하였다. 겔의 색도는 L값과 W값이 보존기간이 경과함에 따라 커져서 겔의 보존시 백색도가 커지고 투명도가 감소하였으며 이러한 경향은 저온에서 더 현저하였다. 이수량 역시 저온에서, 보존기간이 경과함에 따라 더 많아졌다. 텍스쳐 특성은 경도는 보존기간이 경과하면 커지고 부착성, 응집성은 작아져서, 보존에 의해 겔이 단단하고 푸석푸석해지는 경향을 나타내었다. 또한 이러한 경향은 저온 보존시 더 현저하였다. 관능적 특성은 기계적 특정과 대체로 일치하는 경향이었으며, 전반적 바람직성은 5$^{\circ}C$에서는 보존 2일째부터, $25^{\circ}C$보존에서는 보존 3일째부터 기호도가 상당히 낮아졌다.

  • 탄소 섬유 강화 복합재료 성형 시 섬유는 열변형이 거의 없는 반면에 수지는 시간 및 온도변화에 따라 물성이 변화하며 제품에 잔류응력이 발생한다. 잔류응력의 원인은 경화 과정에서의 섬유와 수지의 열팽창 계수 차이, 수지의 화학 수축이며 이로 인해 스프링 인, 뒤틀림 등의 열 변형이 발생한다. 열 변형은 제품의 품질을 결정하는 주요한 요인으로 복합재료 공정에 있어 반드시 고려되어야 한다. 본 연구는 잔류응력에 의한 열 변형을 예측하기 위해 3-D 점탄성 모델을 적용하여 서브루틴을 제작하고 기존의 2-D 점탄성 모델의 평판 유한 요소 해석결과와 비교해 유한 요소 해석 기법을 검증하였다. 검증된 기법으로 L-형상 구조를 해석하여 스프링 인 현상을 예측, 분석하였다.

Effects of red ginseng on the elastic properties of human skin

  • Background: Red ginseng contains components, including microelements, vitamins, essential oils, and fatty acids, that can be used in skincare to delay the aging process. We investigated the effects of red ginseng treatment on skin elasticity by assessing cellular stiffness and measuring collagen protein synthesis. Methods: Human dermal fibroblasts were treated with red ginseng, and the resulting changes in stiffness were investigated using atomic force microscopy. Cytoskeletal changes and mRNA expression of biomarkers of aging, including that of procollagens I and VII, elastin, and fibrillin-1, were investigated. Collagen in a human skin equivalent treated with red ginseng was visualized via hematoxylin and eosin staining, scanning electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. Results and conclusion: The stiffness of fibroblasts was significantly reduced by treatment with red ginseng concentrations of ≥ 0.8 mg/mL. The ratio of F-actin to G-actin decreased after treatment, which corresponded to a change in fibroblast stiffness. The storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G'') of the skin equivalent were both lowered by red ginseng treatment. This result indicates that the viscoelasticity of the skin equivalent can be restored by red ginseng treatment.

PHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF OIL/WATER EMULSION AND OIL/LIQUID CRYSTAL/WATER SYSTEMS AND THEIR CONSUMER PERCEPTION IN HAIR CARE PRODUCTS

  • Liquid crystal known as a rheological barrier to coaleseence of oil dorplets. increases. emulsion stability, water-holding capacity and promotes active material penetration to skin. Some investigation for its rheological characteristics have been reported but its relations to consumer perception have been rarely published. In this study oil/water emulsion and oil/liquid crystal/water systems were manufactured using the same composition of Behenyltrimethylammonium chloride/Cetostearyl alcohol/Lanolin oil. and rheological properties of each system were investigated with Cone and Plate rheometer. The formation of liquid crystalline phase was observed with polarized microscope and Differential Scanning Calorimeter. Continuous shear experiment, creep yield and water holding capacity were measured for oil/water and oil/liquid crystal/water systems. The results were compared with sensory evaluations. Oil/liquid crystal/water system showed higher viscosity at the same shear rate, higher viscoelasticity and higher yield stress than oil/water system. These properties were expected to show good spreadability and excellent richness without waxiness I hair care products of creme type. This expectation was consistent with the results of sensory experiments. Water-holding capacity was evaluated by measuring residual water of specimens at specific temperature and relative humidity, Oil/liquid crystal/water system was proved to have ability to hold water in comparison with oil/water system. The results indicated that oil/liquid crystal/water system was of benefit to rheological properties creme type hair care products.
