  • In ATM networks with high capacity, the effect of failures on transmission links or nodes can be catastrophic, so that the issue of survivability is of great importance. In this paper. we consider the routing problem for working and backup virtual paths(VPs). To accomplish a higher survivability. routing the two kinds of VPs should be taken into account at the same time because backup VP routing depends on the working VP routing. A coevolutionary algorithm is employed to solve the problem for simultaneously routing of working and backup VPs. To develop an efficient coevolutionary algorithm for the problem. structure of populations, encoding method, neighborhood, and genetic operators are studied in this paper. The results of extensive experiments are reported. The performance comparison of the proposed algorithm with a conventional genetic algorithm and existing heuristics shows that our approach is promising.

  • One of the drawbacks of GA-based structural optimization is that the fitness evaluation of a population of hundreds of individuals requiring hundreds of structural analyses at each CA generation is computational too expensive. Therefore, a parallel genetic algorithm is developed for structural optimization on a cluster of personal computers in this paper. Based on the parallel genetic algorithm, a population at every generation is partitioned into a number of sub-populations equal to the number of slave computers. Parallelism is exploited at sub-population level by allocationg each sub-population to a slave computer. Thus, fitness of a population at each generation can be concurrently evaluated on a cluster of personal computers. For implementation of the algorithm a virtual distributed computing system in a collection of personal computers connected via a 100 Mb/s Ethernet LAN. The algorithm is applied to the minimum weight design of a steel structure. The results show that the computational time requied for serial GA-based structural optimization process is drastically reduced.

  • Smart systems and services aim to facilitate growing urban populations and their prospects of virtual-real social behaviors, gig economies, factory automation, knowledge-based workforce, integrated societies, modern living, among many more. To satisfy these objectives, smart systems and services must comprises of a complex set of features such as security, ease of use and user friendliness, manageability, scalability, adaptivity, intelligent behavior, and personalization. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) is realized as a data-driven technology to provide an efficient knowledge representation, semantic modeling, and can support a cognitive behavior aspect of the system. In this paper, an integration of AI with the smart systems and services is presented to mitigate the existing challenges. Several novel researches work in terms of frameworks, architectures, paradigms, and algorithms are discussed to provide possible solutions against the existing challenges in the AI-based smart systems and services. Such novel research works involve efficient shape image retrieval, speech signal processing, dynamic thermal rating, advanced persistent threat tactics, user authentication, and so on.

  • Recenlty, the category of luxury wearbles has expanded and the relevant reseach has been scarce. The study tests whether the emotional mechanism regarding luxury wearables within e-tail affects luxury brand perceptions. Furthermore, it tests the moderation effect of gender in the mechanism. A total of 393 responses from U.S. populations were collected through an international research company with using online survey methods. In the results, the positive and direct effect of dominance on positive emotion was significant, and the positive emotion significantly increases perceived brand luxury. However, no direct effect of dominance was found on perceived brand luxury. The moderation effect of gender in the relationship between positive emotion and perceived brand luxury was found positive and significant, but the hypothesized moderation effect of gender was insignificant in the relationship between dominance and perceived brand luxury. Implications and study limitations are discussed.
