  • Bluetooth Video Distribution Profile (VDP) defines the protocol and procedures that realize the distribution of video content compressed in a specific format for the efficient use of the limited bandwidth. In this paper, we describe the design of VDP tester based on TTCN-2 (Tree and Tabular Combined Notation), a language standardized by ISO for the specification of tests for real-time and communicating systems. Our work was carried out as a part of supporting a new profile testing module for VDP in PTS (Profile Tuning Suite), a reference test system for Bluetooth interoperability testing. Test demonstration for the interoperability with various VDP solutions at the PTS session in UPF30 (Unplug Fest) showed the validity of the developed tester. Eventually, we introduce the PTS architecture, and show the design and implementation of VDP tester included in the released PTS 3.0 in this paper.

  • Patient dose verification is one of the most important parts in quality assurance of the treatment delivery for radiation therapy. The dose distributions may be meaningfully improved by modulating two dimensional intensity profile of the individual high energy radiation beams In this study, a new method is presented for the pre-treatment dosimetric verification of these two dimensional distributions of beam intensity by means of a charge coupled device video camera-based fluoroscopic device (henceforth called as CCD-VCFD) as a radiation detecter with a custom-made software for dose calculation from fluorescence signals. This system of dosimeter (CCD-VCFD) could reproduce three dimensional (3D) relative dose distribution from the digitized fluoroscopic signals for small (1.0$\times$1.0 cm$^2$ square, ø 1.0 cm circular ) and large (30$\times$30cm$^2$) field sizes used in intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). For the small beam sizes of photon and electron, the calculations are performed In absolute beam fluence profiles which are usually used for calculation of the patient dose distribution. The good linearity with respect to the absorbed dose, independence of dose rate, and three dimensional profiles of small beams using the CCD-VCFD were demonstrated by relative measurements in high energy Photon (15 MV) and electron (9 MeV) beams. These measurements of beam profiles with CCD-VCFD show good agreement with those with other dosimeters such as utramicro-cylindrical (UC) ionization chamber and radiographic film. The study of the radiation dosimetric technique using CCD-VCFD may provide a fast and accurate pre-treatment verification tool for the small beam used in stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and can be used for verification of dose distribution from dynamic multi-leaf collimation system (DMLC).

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient requantization method for INTRA frames in heterogeneous transcoding from MPEG-1 to MPEG-4 simple profile. The quantizer for MPEG-1 INTRA MB usually uses a quantization weighting matrix while the quantizer for MPEG-4 simple profile doesn't. As a result, the quantization step sizes of the two quantizers may not be the same even for the same quantization parameter. Due to this mismatch in the quantization step site, the transcoded MPEG-4 sequence suffers from serious quality degradation and the number of bits produced by transcoding increases from the original MPEG-1 video sequence. To solve these problems, we propose an efficient method to find a near-optimum reconstruction level in the transcoder. We also present a PDF (probability distribution function) estimation method for the original DCT coefficients of MPEG-1 video sequence, which is required for the proposed requantization. Experimental results show that the proposed method gives $0.3{\sim}0.6dB$ improvement in PSNR over the conventional method, even at the reduced bit-rate about $5{\sim}7%$ from the conventional method.

  • The present experimental study is aimed to investigate the flow characteristics of the high-speed flow field within hot-water pump by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry). As multi-point simultaneous velocity acquisition, 2-D PIV system based upon the two-frame gray-level cross correlation method is adopted using PC frame-grabber and simple video system. Gated image intensifier CCD Camera to cope with illumination problem is arranged for accurate PIV measurement of high-speed complex flow. The velocity vector distribution, velocity profile, and kinetic energy are represented quantitatively at the full-scale region for the deeper understanding of the unsteady flow characteristics in a pump.

  • Recently with the advancement of local wireless communication technologies, digital trends of audio contents and devices are paving the way for new experiences to network-based audio streaming services. In this paper, we present the Wireless Audio Sharing (WASH) technology over Bluetooth and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). WASH system provides an audio sharing mechanism over multiple users and also provides stereo audio streaming between Bluetooth-enabled devices and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) media devices connected to wired/wireless LANs. To achieve these, we extended the Bluetooth audio distribution profile and combined the extended profile with the UPnP AV architecture. With the implementation of this WASH technology, we show some experimental results of the stereo audio streaming in a real environment.

  • Root distribution was monitored in the root zone of corn fields on several soil series in central Illinois during three growing seasons in order to find the effect of soil series and tillage system on root growth. A minirhizotron technique was used to videotape each soil profile in weekly intervals to a depth of 75 cm under conventional tillage (CT) and no tillage (NT) systems of cultivation. Root distribution near soil surface generally increased during the early stages of the growing season, but declined as surface soil moisture was depleted in late summer. Even though root distribution was not significantly different between soil series in this experiment. differences in root distribution between soil series were associated with the increases in root-available water storage capacity. Root population in the top 30 cm of NT plots. where increased water infiltration rates and saturated flow of soil moisture into the subsoil, was generally higher than that of CT plots in Illinois corn fields. Foots appeared in the deeper layers later in the growing season, with root penetration into subsoil layers occurring as much as 2-3 weeks earlier on the NT plots than in CT plots. In conclusion, root distribution was significantly affected by the tillage systems, but not different by soil series.

  • Reference white in color television receiver can be achieved by adjusting the RGB gun current ratio and it is necessary to provide additional gain ratio adjustment for the RGB video signal. Generally, the gun current density profile has a gaussian distribution and the gain-bandwidth product of RGB channel amplifieris constant. Therefore brightness and spatial resolution are changed with variations in reference white of receiver. In this paper, the effect of RGB gun current and channel gain ratios on brightness and resolution of CPT is analyzed. Brightness is increased with the color temperature of referenc white because of Helmholtz-kohlrausch effect. The change in ligh output is more abrupt and spatial resolution is improved with unity current ratio. For more bright and improved ressolution we also present the range of color temperature of reference white for P22 phosphors.

  • H.264(or MPEG-4/AVC pt.10) is a high performance video coding standard, and is widely used. Variable length code (VLC) of the H.264 standard compresses data using the statistical distribution of values. A decoder parses the compressed bit stream and searches decoded values in lookup tables, and the decoding process is not easy to implement by hardware. We propose an architecture of variable length decoder(VLD) for the H.264 baseline profile(BP) L4. The CAVLD decodes syntax elements using the combination of arithmetic units and lookup tables for the optimized hardware architecture. A barral shifter and a first 1's detector parse NAL bit stream, and are shared by Exp-Golomb decoder and CAVLD. A FIFO memory between CAVLD and the reorder unit and a buffer at the output of the reorder unit eliminate the bottleneck of data stream. The proposed VLD is designed using Verilog-HDL and is implemented using an FPGA. The synthesis result using a 0.18um standard CMOS technology shows that the gate count is 22,604 and the decoder can process HD($1920{\times}1080$) video at 120MHz.
