  • Background: Effects of the major ginsenoside Rg1 on mammalian longevity and physical vitality are rarely reported. Purpose: To examine longevity, tumor, and spontaneous locomotor activity in rats consuming Rg1. Methods: A total of 138 Wistar rats were randomized into 2 groups: control (N = 69) and Rg1 (N = 69). Rg1 (0.1 mg/kg per day) were orally supplemented from 6 months of age until natural death. Spontaneous mobility was measured by video-tracking together with body composition (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) and inflammation markers at 5, 14, 21, and 28 months of age. Results: No significant differences in longevity (control: 706 days; Rg1: 651 days, p = 0.77) and tumor incidence (control: 19%; Rg1: 12%, p = 0.24) were observed between the two groups. Movement distance in the control group declined significantly by ~60% at 21 months of age, together with decreased TNF-α (p = 0.01) and increased IL-10 (p = 0.02). However, the movement distance in the Rg1 group was maintained ~50% above the control groups (p = 0.01) at 21 months of age with greater magnitudes of TNF-α decreases and IL-10 increases. Glucose, insulin, and body composition (bone, muscle and fat percentages) were similar for both groups during the entire observation period. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest a delay age-dependent decline in physical vitality during late life by lifelong Rg1 consumption. This improvement is associated with inflammatory modulation. Significant effects of Rg1 on longevity and tumorigenesis were not observed.

  • This paper presents a vibration displacement measurement and damage identification method for a space truss structure from its vibration videos. Features from Accelerated Segment Test (FAST) algorithm is combined with adaptive threshold strategy to detect the feature points of high quality within the Region of Interest (ROI), around each node of the truss structure. Then these points are tracked by Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi (KLT) algorithm along the video frame sequences to obtain the vibration displacement time histories. For some cases with the image plane not parallel to the truss structural plane, the scale factors cannot be applied directly. Therefore, these videos are processed with homography transformation. After scale factor adaptation, tracking results are expressed in physical units and compared with ground truth data. The main operational frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes are identified by using Subspace Stochastic Identification (SSI) from the obtained vibration displacement responses and compared with ground truth data. Structural damages are quantified by elemental stiffness reductions. A Bayesian inference-based objective function is constructed based on natural frequencies to identify the damage by model updating. The Success-History based Adaptive Differential Evolution with Linear Population Size Reduction (L-SHADE) is applied to minimise the objective function by tuning the damage parameter of each element. The locations and severities of damage in each case are then identified. The accuracy and effectiveness are verified by comparison of the identified results with the ground truth data.

  • In this study, we propose a cow behavior recognition system based on YOLOX and OC-SORT. YOLO X detects targets in real-time and provides information on cow location and behavior. The OC-SORT module tracks cows in the video and assigns unique IDs. The quantitative analysis module analyzes the behavior and location information of cows. Experimental results show that our system demonstrates high accuracy and precision in target detection and tracking. The average precision (AP) of YOLOX was 82.2%, the average recall (AR) was 85.5%, the number of parameters was 54.15M, and the computation was 194.16GFLOPs. OC-SORT was able to maintain high-precision real-time target tracking in complex environments and occlusion situations. By analyzing changes in cow movement and frequency of mounting behavior, our system can help more accurately discern the estrus behavior of cows.

  • Recently, de-identification of personal information, which has been a long-cherished desire of the data-based industry, was revised and specified in August 2020. It became the foundation for activating data called crude oil[2] in the fourth industrial era in the industrial field. However, some people are concerned about the infringement of the basic rights of the data subject[3]. Accordingly, a development study was conducted on the Batch De-Identification Tool, a personal information de-identification automation tool. In this study, first, we developed an image labeling tool to label human faces (eyes, nose, mouth) and car license plates of various resolutions to build data for training. Second, an object recognition model was trained to run the object recognition module to perform de-identification of personal information. The automated personal information de-identification tool developed as a result of this research shows the possibility of proactively eliminating privacy violations through online services. These results suggest possibilities for data-based industries to maximize the value of data while balancing privacy and utilization.

  • Swift and appropriate responses in emergency situations like objects falling on the road can bring convenience to road users and effectively reduces secondary traffic accidents. In Korea, current intelligent transportation system (ITS)-based detection systems for emergency road situations mainly rely on loop detectors and CCTV cameras, which only capture road data within detection range of the equipment. Therefore, a new detection method is needed to identify emergency situations in spatially shaded areas that existing ITS detection systems cannot reach. In this study, we propose a ResNet-based algorithm that detects and classifies emergency situations from vehicle camera footage. We collected front-view driving videos recorded on Korean highways, labeling each video by defining the type of emergency, and training the proposed algorithm with the data.

  • There has been an increase in the viewing of YouTube content among children and adolescents. This, coupled with the popularity of live-streamed video content such as mukbang, where viewers watch the host eat, has raised concerns about media addiction and the indiscriminate imitation of eating behavior. Therefore, there is a need for guidance on the appropriate behavior for viewing YouTube food content to promote healthy eating habits among children. In this study, we aimed to compare the patterns of the main caregivers and their children while viewing media and investigate the impact of viewing YouTube food content on the physical and mental health of the children. The findings suggest that active YouTube food content viewing by the main caregivers may reduce imitative behaviors due to passive media consumption by their children. This study provides valuable insights by comparing and analyzing the YouTube content viewing of the main caregivers and their children. The results can be used as a basis for the development of lifestyle-centered guidelines for children. However, it is important to note that this study was conducted during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic when there was a significant increase in the use of media, which is limitation of the study.

  • In this paper, we propose a dual-structured self-attention method that improves the lack of regional features of the vision transformer's self-attention. Vision Transformers, which are more computationally efficient than convolutional neural networks in object classification, object segmentation, and video image recognition, lack the ability to extract regional features relatively. To solve this problem, many studies are conducted based on Windows or Shift Windows, but these methods weaken the advantages of self-attention-based transformers by increasing computational complexity using multiple levels of encoders. This paper proposes a dual-structure self-attention using self-attention and neighborhood network to improve locality inductive bias compared to the existing method. The neighborhood network for extracting local context information provides a much simpler computational complexity than the window structure. CIFAR-10 and CIFAR-100 were used to compare the performance of the proposed dual-structure self-attention transformer and the existing transformer, and the experiment showed improvements of 0.63% and 1.57% in Top-1 accuracy, respectively.

  • This study aimed to develop a smart wearable device for assessing the risk angle associated with turtle neck syndrome in patients with Video Display Terminal (VDT) syndrome. Turtle neck syndrome, characterized by forward head posture resulting from upper cross syndrome, leads to thoracic kyphosis. In this research, a stretch sensor was used to monitor the progression of turtle neck syndrome, and the sensor data was analyzed using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and the Gauge Factor (GF) calculation method. The scapula and cervical spine angles were measured at five stages, with 15-degree increments from 0° to 60°. During the experimental process, the stretch sensor was attached to the thoracic spine in three different lengths: 30mm, 50mm, and 100mm. Among these, the attachment method yielding the most reliable data was determined by measuring with three techniques (General Trim Adhesive, PU film, and Heat Transfer Machine), and clothing using the heat transfer machine was selected. The experimental results confirmed that the most significant change in thoracic kyphosis occurred at approximately 30° of forward head posture. Prolonged deformity can lead to various issues, highlighting the need for textile sensor solutions. The developed wearable device aims to provide users with real-time feedback on their turtle neck posture and incorporate features that can help prevent or improve the condition.

  • Purpose: Post-burn pruritus is one of the most prevalent complications experienced by burn patients. Though medications are prescribed for pruritus, managing this condition can prove challenging. The aim of this research was to develop and disseminate non-pharmacological self-management educational resources, and subsequently evaluate the effectiveness of implementing a percussion therapy approach. Methods: A one-group pretest-posttest design was employed to evaluate the effect of percussion therapy on one hundred patients, all of whom had suffered deep second-degree burns and undergone skin graft surgery. Variables such as the severity of pruritus, distress caused by pruritus, and satisfaction with pruritus treatment were scrutinized. A paired t-test was conducted to compare these variables before and after the intervention. Results: The majority of participants were diagnosed with third-degree burns, and the average Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) affected was 25.2%. Post-test results revealed a marked reduction in both severity and distress caused by pruritus. The intervention led to significant decreases in average severity and pain due to itchiness, and an increase in the satisfaction level following the application of percussion therapy. Conclusions: The implementation of the percussion was identified as effective in diminishing post-burn pruritus, alleviating pruritus-associated pain, and enhancing satisfaction with pruritus treatment. The percussion approach presents itself as a non-invasive, non-pharmacological strategy for managing pruritus in burn patients.
