Power Flow Analysis (PFA) is developed for the effective predictions of frequency-averaged vibrational response in medium-to-high frequency ranges. In PFA, the power coefficients of semi-infinite structure and for-field energy density are used to predict the vibrational responses of structures. Generally, at high frequencies, PFA can predict narrow-band frequency-averaged vibrational responses of built-up structures. However, in low- to medium frequency ranges, the dynamic responses obtained by PFA represent broad-band frequency-averaged vibrational energy densities. For the prediction of vibrational response variance in Power Flow Finite Element Method (PFFEM), the variances of input power and joint element matrix describing structural coupling relationship are derived. Finally, for the validity of developed formulation, numerical examples for two co-planer plates are performed and the vibrational response variance of the structure are compared with the results of classical and PFFEM solutions.
The output power is dependent of the vibrational level temperatures and wall temperature of the discharge tube in cw $CO_{2}$ lasers. The method postulates the introduction of a vibrational temperatures Ti for each vibrational mode. The vibrational and wall temperature are dertermined by the equations of the vibrational energy balance and thermal conductivity.
This paper describes the method to measure of the vibrational power transmitted from the vibration source to the supporting structure in the horizontal direction. Generally, it is impossible to measure horizontal forces at the coupling points. However. the vibrational Power transmitted in the horizontal direction can be measured by using indirect method that is based on the mechanical impedance and velocities at the coupling points. We proposed the method to estimate the vibrational power when the vibration source and supporting structure cannot be separated. In this paper. the vibrational power transmitted in the horizontal direction is also estimated by using this method. The estimated and measured results of the mobilities at the coupling point and vibrational power in the horizontal direction are compared. It is shown that the estimated results agree well with the measured results. For the supporting structure with multiple coupling points, the other coupling points should be considered for measuring the vibrational power transmitted through one coupling points. We examine the effects of other coupling points and measure the vibrational power without considering the other coupling points.
To learn the differences between the structure-activity relationship and molecular vibration-activity relationship in the ligand-receptor interaction of the histamine receptor, 47 ligands of the histamine receptor were analyzed by structural similarity and molecular vibrational frequency patterns. The radial tree that was produced by clustering analysis of molecular vibrational frequency patterns shows its potential for the functional classification of histamine receptor ligands.

Reduction of structure-borne noise of the compartment in a car is an important task in automotive engineering. Transfer path analysis using vibroacoustic reciprocity technique or multiple path decomposition method has generally been used for structure-borne noise path analysis. These methods are useful in solving particular problem but do net quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation of each isolator of a vehicle. To quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation, the vibrational power flow has been used for a simple isolation system or a laboratory based isolation system. It is often difficult to apply the vibrational power flow technique to the complex isolation system like a car. In this paper, a simple equation is derived for calculation of the vibrational power flow of an isolation system with multiple isolators such as a car. It is successfully applied to not only quantifying the relative contributions of eighteen isolators but also reducing structure-borne noise of a passenger car. According to the results, the main contributor of eighteen isolators is the rear roll mount of an engine. The reduced structure-borne noise level is about 5dBA.

The power flow analysis (PFA) has been performed to analyze the vibration of coupled plates excited by a point force in an arbitrary direction. The point force generates the out-of-plane vibration associated wish flexural waves and the in-plane vibration associated with longitudinal and shear waves. The energy governing equation for each type of waves was introduced and solved to Predict the vibrational energy density and intensity generated by the out-of-plane and in-plane components of the point force in an arbitrary direction. The wave transmission approach was used to consider the mode conversion at the joint of the coupled plates. Numerical results for vibrational energy density and intensity on the coupled plates were presented. Comparison of the results by PFA with exact results showed that PFA can be an effective tool to predict the spatial variation of the vibrational energy and intensity on the coupled plates at high frequencies.
Mathematical formulas for multi-dimensional isolation analysis via vibrational power transmission can be derived in a rather simple form when the wave effects of the isolators are completely neglected. With increase of frequency range of interest, however, the wave effects play a very important role and hence cannot be neglected. The formulas get involved accordingly. In this study, a method of equivalent stiffness modeling of the isolators to include the wave effects is proposed in such a way that not only the complexity of the mathematical expressions but also that of experiments of necessity can be reduced. This method is illustratively applied to a two-dimensional vibration isolation system with nonrigid source and base structures.

The dynamic behavior of underground structures is complex due to the effects of vibrational characteristics of the structure and the rock. In this study, dynamic displacement responses at the structure surface by the elastic stress waves are considered as the vibrational characteristics, and evaluated by the form of the frequency spectrum. The variation of the vibrational characteristic is simulated by numerical analysis at the case of the structure has internal defections. The results reveals the possibility of the experimental detection of void existence and size. Furthermore, the verification of the dynamic response can be used for rating the stability of a tunnel.

A single degree of freedom system and transmissibility are key concepts in many problems of vibration isolation. In order to apply this approach, however, several assumptions must be satisfied, which are often not realistic. For examples, in practical systems, vibration transmissions at multi-point with multi-degree of freedom(translational and rotational DOF) take place and mobilities or impedances of receiver structures cannot be ignored any more especially over high frequency range. Therefore, a multi-dimensional treatment is required for accurate estimation of dynamic behavior of the system. In this paper, an approach using vibrational power flow is introduced to deal with analysis of multi-dimensional vibration isolation system in a more practical way and in aspects of vibration isolations and vibration path analysis. Procedures of this approach and some results of research for vibrational power path analysis with rotational terms included are presented. Difficulties in this method are also discussed.
This paper proposes a method for estimating the vibrational power supplied by a machine that generates excitation force to its supporting structure via the coupling points. The basis of the method is that the vibrational power can be calculated using the mechanical impedance and the velocity at the coupling points on the supporting structure. First, a method is described to estimate the mobilities at the coupling points when the machine is not separable from the supporting structure, then the vibrational power is calculated using the estimated mobilities and measured velocities at the coupling points. The mobilities are estimated from the result of impulsive testing of the coupled structure. The method is investigated using an experimental model. The estimated and measured values of the mobilities and the vibrational power are compared. It is shown that the estimated values agree well with the measured values.
