A Study on Silencer Performance Assessment under Onboard Condition (선내 탑재된 소음기 성능평가 방법에 관한 연구)

  • The exhaust noise of auxiliary engine in ships is directly transmitted to bridge wing with only distance attenuation. It is not easy to find out practical treatment to be applied between exhaust pipe and bridge wing to reduce the transmission of the exhaust noise. In general, therefore, a silencer is fitted to reduce the exhaust noise and correspondingly noise of bridge wing. The silencer should be properly designed under the consideration of the frequency component of the exhaust noise and the required performance such as noise reduction or insertion loss. In general, the gas inside the exhaust pipe flows with high temperature and speed and thus onboard test condition is more adverse than the standard atmospheric condition. In this study, the test method to evaluate silencer performance using a probe microphone is introduced.

Test and Simulation of an Active Vibration Control System for Helicopter Applications

  • A significant source of vibration in helicopters is the main rotor system, and it is a technical challenge to reduce the vibration in order to ensure the comfort of crew and passengers. Several types of passive devices have been applied to conventional helicopters in order to reduce the vibration. In recent years, helicopter manufacturers have increasingly adopted active vibration control systems (AVCSs) due to their superior performance with lower weight compared with passive devices. AVCSs can also maintain their performance over aircraft configuration and flight condition changes. As part of the development of AVCS software for light civil helicopter (LCH) applications, a test bench is constructed and vibration control tests and simulations are performed in this study. The test bench, which represents the airframe, is excited using a pair of counter rotating force generators (CRFGs) and a multiple input single output (MISO) AVCS that consists of three accelerometer sensors and a pair of CRFGs; a filtered-x least mean square (LMS) algorithm is applied for the vibration reduction. First, the vibration control tests are performed with uniform sensor weights; then, the change in the control performance according to changes in the sensor weight is investigated and compared with the simulation results. It is found that the vibration control performance can be tuned through adjusting the weights of the three sensors, even if only one actuator is used.

  • In general, the rolling stock has been designed and manufactured in accordance with the requirements of purchaser. The requirements of the noise and vibration performance are called the international standard (ISO, UIC, TSI etc.) and are demanded based on the special conditions for the regional regulation and the characteristics for operating condition in detail. In this paper, the noise and vibration performance in the train at stationary condition has been investigated and the design parameter of the cooling fan to control the noise and vibration performance has been examined.

  • Railway bridge is the most problematic thing in the railway is due to noise and vibration. To solve these problems, there have been studies. However, a fundamental alternative to the noise and vibration. It has not so far not shown, and to minimize the problem is focused. As a result, developed a lot of noise reduction measures, but the vibration is not much for reduction. In this study, to support the superstructure of the bridge vibration possible for spherical elastomeric bearing is a technical review. And it applies to the railway bridge, the numerical analysis was carried out.

  • This paper investigates the filtered velocity feedback(FVF) controller for the reduction of the acoustic power radiated from a clamped beam. The instability problem due to the non-collocated sensor/actuator configuration when using PZT actuator should be sorted out. The roll-off property of the FVF controller at high frequency helps to alleviate the instability. The dynamics of clamped beams under forces and moments pair and the FVF controller are first formulated. The formulation of the sound radiated power is followed. The open loop transfer function(OLTF) synthesized with 100 modes is used to determine the stability of the control system. The control performance is finally estimated. The levels of the vibration and the sound radiated power are reduced in the wide bandbelow the tuning mode of the FVF controller.

  • In order to predict vibration trends occurred during vehicle drive, acceleration data was processed by using data processing algorithm with moving average and Hilbert transform. Specific mode constants of acceleration were obtained under various disturbance. Vehicle velocity, road condition, property of pointing structure were considered as factors which make change of vibration trend in vehicle dynamics. Results of signal processing were compared and analysed. Advanced performance of the timing selection algorithm from this study was verified by using simple equipment comparing with the deflection measurement laser system(Muzzle Reference System).

  • The mount suppliers are providing limited information on the dynamic characteristics of the mounts to some designers and some manufacturers of the high-precision machines. In this technical study, the experimental review was carried out about dynamic characteristics of five kinds of commercial passive mounts sold in the market. The dynamic characteristics, natural frequency and damping ratio, extracted from experimental tests were compared to the materials supplied by mount makers. In order to predict the performance of the high-precision machines with mounts, exact values of the dynamic characteristics of mounts should be used in the stage of numerical analysis.

  • Most of large structures such as ship, airplane, and so on have internal structure home noise sources. The operation of the machineries results in vibration and noise of the structure. Particularly, the vibration of the machineries is transmitted to the far place from the sources and emits noise into the water or outdoor as well as the inner space of the structure. In the case of warships this emission into the water induces noise to reduce the performance of its underwater acoustic equipment. Therefore the structure home noise levels of the installed machineries are strictly limited. This paper shows examples of structure home noise reduction from machineries including pumps.
