Structural identification or St-Id is 'the parametric correlation of structural response characteristics predicted by a mathematical model with analogous characteristics derived from experimental measurements'. This paper describes a St-Id exercise on Humber Bridge that adopted a novel two-stage approach to first calibrate and then validate a mathematical model. This model was then used to predict effects of wind and temperature loads on global static deformation that would be practically impossible to observe. The first stage of the process was an ambient vibration survey in 2008 that used operational modal analysis to estimate a set of modes classified as vertical, torsional or lateral. In the more recent second stage a finite element model (FEM) was developed with an appropriate level of refinement to provide a corresponding set of modal properties. A series of manual adjustments to modal parameters such as cable tension and bearing stiffness resulted in a FEM that produced excellent correspondence for vertical and torsional modes, along with correspondence for the lower frequency lateral modes. In the third stage traffic, wind and temperature data along with deformation measurements from a sparse structural health monitoring system installed in 2011 were compared with equivalent predictions from the partially validated FEM. The match of static response between FEM and SHM data proved good enough for the FEM to be used to predict the un-measurable global deformed shape of the bridge due to vehicle and temperature effects but the FEM had limited capability to reproduce static effects of wind. In addition the FEM was used to show internal forces due to a heavy vehicle to to estimate the worst-case bearing movements under extreme combinations of wind, traffic and temperature loads. The paper shows that in this case, but with limitations, such a two-stage FEM calibration/validation process can be an effective tool for performance prognosis.
Nowadays, there are a great number of various structures that have been retrofitted by using different FRP Composites. Due to this, more researches need to be conducted to know more the characteristics of these structures, not only that but also a comparison among them before and after the retrofitting is needed. In this research, a model steel structure is tested using a bench-scale earthquake simulator on the shake table, using recorded micro tremor data, in order to get the dynamic behaviors. Columns of the model steel structure are then retrofitted by using GFRP composite, and then tested on the Quanser shake table by using the recorded micro tremor data. At this stage, it is needed to evaluate the dynamic behaviors of the retrofitted model steel structure. Various types of methods of OMA, such as EFDD, SSI, etc. are used to take action in the ambient responses. Having a purpose to learn more about the effects of GFRP composite, experimental model analysis of both types (retrofitted and no-retrofitted models) is conducted to evaluate their dynamic behaviors. There is a provision of ambient excitation to the shake table by using recorded micro tremor ambient vibration data on ground level. Furthermore, the Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition is used through output-only modal identification. At the end of this study, moderate correlation is obtained between mode shapes, periods and damping ratios. The aim of this research is to show and determine the effects of GFRP Composite implementation on structural responses of the model steel structure, in terms of changing its dynamical behaviors. The frequencies for model steel structure and the retrofitted model steel structure are shown to be 33.916% in average difference. Finally, it is shown that, in order to evaluate the period and rigidity of retrofitted structures, OMA might be used.

Although there are differences in the classification of category adopted by each country, small UAS is usually classified as the one less than 25 kg. UAS has been mainly used for military and public purposes, but in recent years, it has spread to the private sector for hobby, media, and so on. Especially, considering the nature of the operating region and applications, it is necessary to improve operating time, noise and vibration in small UAS to ensure the same level of safety with a manned aircraft. This is because the drone can pose health and safety hazard through collision with manned aircraft or crashing into the ground. In this paper, we investigated operational regulations in the United States and European countries. Based on the investigation, a domestic system development plan for small UAS operation is under development.

Earthquake preparedness has become more important with recent increase in the number of earthquakes in Korea, but many existing structures are not prepared for earthquakes. There are various types of liquefaction prevention method that can be applied, such as compaction, replacement, dewatering, and inhibition of shear strain. However, most of the liquefaction prevention methods are applied before construction, and it is important to find optimal methods that can be applied to existing structures and that have few effects on the environment, such as noise, vibration, and changes in underground water level. The purpose of this study is to estimate the correlation between the displacement of a structure and variations of pore water pressure on the ground in accordance with the depth of the sheet file when liquidation occurs. To achieve this, a shaking table test was performed for Joo-Mun-Jin standard sand and an earth pressure, accelerometer, pore water pressure transducer, and LVDT were installed in both the non-liquefiable layer and the liquefiable layer to measure the subsidence and excess pore water pressure in accordance with the time of each embedded depth. Then the results were analyzed. A comparison of the pore water pressure in accordance with Hsp/Hsl was shown to prevent lateral water flow at 1, 0.85 and confirmed that the pore water pressure increased. In addition, the relationship between Hsp/Hsl and subsidence was expressed as a trend line to calculate the expected settlement rate formula for the embedded depth ratio.

In this paper, equivalent models for active control devices are proposed so that building structures with such devices are analyzed using commercial structural analysis programs for the assessment of the structural members under active vibration control. Equivalent link models represent active control device with a virtual linear spring and dashpot, and equivalent force models are control force history acting at the installation point in structural models. Active controllers are designed based on the reduced-order models for a vertical cantilever model and a high-rise building model and corresponding equivalent models are determined from control gain matrices. Based on acceleration, displacement and member force responses, the effectiveness of the equivalent models is verified. As a result, proposed equivalent models, of which equivalent link model showed better performance, appear to enable detailed investigation of structural behavior to the extent of member force level.
The hydrophones is mounted in many applications on a vibrating surface and functions as an underwater acoustic signal receiver without sensing the vibrations from the mounting surface. However, their performance is usually degraded by the interference of exterior noises such as acoustic cavitation in water stream, host structural vibration in the hull, and propeller motions. This paper describes the design and evaluation of a self noise suppressing hydrophones which shows very poor sensitivity to the external noises, first, effects of the external noise on the its receiver performance is simulated with finite element method(FEM). Second, the geometrical variations are implemented on the original structure that include additional air pockets and acoustic walls which work as acoustic shied or scatter of the noises. The results show that the effect of the external noise is the most significant when it is applied near to the bottom of the side wall of the hydrophones. The transverse noise induced by the outside water flow is isolated most effectively when a thin compliant (damping) layer combined with two air pockets is inserted to the circumference of the nose. Noise level is reduced about fifty nine percent of that of the original structure.

An instrumented pod has been developed to measure the aeroacoustic environment as well as the conventional data such as load, vibration, and aerodynamic heating of fighters during flight tests, confirming to the recently developed external pod design for fighters. This study presents the development of the measurement system in detail, being the first indigenous effort in its kind. The pod was designed to meet the requirements of the MIL-HDBK-1763 and MIL-STD-810 Method 515, which are the base to determine the locations and range of sensors. The Endevco 8510B-2 was selected as the sensor to withstand the harsh environment during the flight tests. In order to assess the integrity of the fabricated pod design, a ground run-up test of a KF-16 has been conducted with the pod installed at Station 5. The test results show that the system works well but the sound level exceeds the predetermined sensor range. The sensor range has been readjusted for flight test performed later.

Generally, in analysis of reliability of Design and Development Phase, reliability of electrical components is analyzed based on standards such as MIL-HDBK-217F, Bellcore Issue 4,5,6 by analyzing stress of architectural side (Power, Voltage, Current and quality level of components) of weapon system and stress of operational side (operational environment, operational temperature, Operational Profile). But the reliability of mechanical components is analyzed based on the data book of failure history of mechanical parts called NPRD-95(Nonelectronic Parts Reliability Data-95) without any analysis of above stress. However, even if it's the same mechanical parts, it might have different failure rate(fatigue, wear, corrosion) during operation depending on how weary(stress : pressure, vibration, temperature during operation) the parts are. Therefore, analyzing reliability using just data book can cause big difference in reliability instead of analyzing based upon stressfulness that parts might have, operational concept, and other various factors. Thus, This paper will guide the way of predicting reliability by organizing ways of predicting reliability for system organization and adopt ing NSWC-98/LE1(Naval Surface Warfare Center-98/LE1) for mechanical components.
