The Yingxian wooden tower in China is currently the tallest wooden tower in the world. It was built in 1056 AD and is 65.86 m high. Field measurements of wind speed and wind-induced response of this tower are conducted. The wind characteristics, including the average wind speed, wind direction, turbulence intensity, gust factor, turbulence integral length scale and velocity spectrum are investigated. The power spectral density and the root-mean-square wind-induced acceleration are analyzed. The structural modal parameters of this tower are identified with two different methods, including the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) combined with the Random Decrement Technique (RDT) and Hilbert transform technique, and the stochastic subspace identification (SSI) method. Results show that strong wind is coming predominantly from the West-South of the tower which is in the same direction as the inclination of the structure. The Von Karman spectrum can describe the spectrum of wind speed well. Wind-induced torsional vibration obviously occurs in this tower. The natural frequencies identified by EMD, RDT and Hilbert Transform are close to those identified by SSI method, but there is obvious difference between the identified damping ratios for the first two modes.
In this study, physiological status of locomotive engineers were measured through EEG, ECG, EDA, PPG and respiration signals from 6 subjects to evaluate their arousal status during train operating. Existence of tunnels and mechanical vibration of train using 3-axes acceleration sensors were recorded simultaneously and were correlated with operator's physiological status. As the result of the analyzed subjects' physiological signals, mean SCR was increased in the section where more body movement is required. The RR interval was decreased before and after train stop due to the higher level of mental tension. The intensity of beta wave of EEG was found to be higher before and after train stop and tunnel section due to the increased mental arousal and tension. Therefore, it is expected that the outcomes of the physiological signals explored in this study can be utilized as the quantitative assessment methods for the arousal status to be used for sleepiness prevention system for vehicles operators which can greatly contribute to public transportation system safety.

Vibrations at different frequencies with a different intensity as well as a pressure pulsation with different parameters are two phenomena which can be observed at different water turbines. Due to the vibration and the pressure pulsation some restrictions of water turbine operation range are applied. Similar problems with the efficiency level in a wide water turbine operation range are the basic problems which are solved for ages. A theoretical and practical solution of the above mentioned problems is very much time and money consuming. The paper describes a new theoretical solution of the excitation and pressure pulsation decrease as well as extension of the operational range with high efficiency level. The new concept to decrease the vibrations and pressure pulsations is based on a heterogeneous runner blade geometry generation. The new concept of the runner geometry design was numerically tested at a low specific speed pump turbine, see Fig. 1, and basic points of the concept are presented in this paper.
The objective of this study was to investigate Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry and the X-ray diffraction (XRD) characterization of melanoidins formed from glucose and fructose with amino acid enantiomers in the Maillard reaction. Before dialysis, FT-IR spectroscopy of all the samples showed that the characteristic absorption intensities appeared as a broad and intense band of the stretching vibration of the -OH group at 3,400/cm for a high pH. The absorption bands of the melanoidins sharply decreased in intensity after dialysis as compared to those before dialysis. In particular, the absorption bands at 992 and 575/cm disappeared. The XRD confirmed that the crystal structure of the melanoidins disappeared after dialysis and a new crystal structure was formed at 9 and $28^{\circ}$ ($2{\theta}$. In particular, broad diffraction peaks were formed in the $10-21^{\circ}$ ($2{\theta}$) range for a high pH, while other sharp diffraction peaks disappeared.
$CaWO_4:Sm_x$(x = 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 mol%) white phosphors with different concentrations of $Sm^{3+}$ ions were synthesized using the hydrothermal method. The crystal structure, surface, and optical properties of the $CaWO_4:Sm_x$ phosphors were investigated using X-ray diffraction(XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), photoluminescence(PL) and photoluminescence excitation(PLE). From the XRD results, the crystal structure of the $CaWO_4:Sm$ phosphors was found to be tetragonal. The $CaWO_4:Sm$ phosphors became more cohesive with increasing $Sm^{3+}$-ion concentration. The photoluminescence excitation(PLE) peak of the phosphors, at around 250 nm, was ascribed to the transition from the 1A1 ground-state to the high-vibration level of 1T2 in the $WO{_4}^{2-}$ complex. The maximum emission spectra of the phosphors were observed when the $Sm^{3+}$ concentration was 0.5 mol%. The luminescence intensity of the $CaWO_4$ phosphors was decreased for $Sm^{3+}$ concentrations greater than 0.5 mol%.
Superparamagnetic Zinc ferrite submicropheres are firstly synthesized via a one-pot solvothermal approach at $200-215^{\circ}C$ for 4-8 hours. $ZnCl_2$, $FeCl_3$ and NaAc are used as precursors with ethylene glycol solvent. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) data indicate that $ZnFe_2O_4$ nanoparticles with the grain size around $15{\pm}3nm$ can be successfully synthesized via the one-pot method. The scanning/transmission electronic microscope (SEM/TEM) images further show the samples are submicrospheres self-assembled by nanoparticles with size about 375-500 nm changed with reaction conditions. Room-temperature vibration magnetic strength measurements (VMS) demonstrates the as-obtained $ZnFe_2O_4$ submicrospheres show prefect superparamagnetism, whose coercivity force and remanence are practically nil. The reaction temperature and time influence on the crystallinity, diameter, saturated magnetic intensity and morphology of the particles.

Background and Objectives : Functional aphonia is characterized by incomplete closure of the vocal folds. Semi-occluded vocal tract exercise (SOVTE) allows smoothly vocal folds collision without damage to the vocal folds tissues to produce normal vocal intensity. The purpose of this study is to report the effect of SOVTE in patients with functional aphonia. Materials and Method : Seven patients diagnosed with functional aphonia were treated with 1-3 voice therapy sessions using voiced lip-trill, humming, Lax Vox in SOVTE. To assess the effectiveness of semi-occluded vocal tract exercise, cepstral analysis and auditory perceptual assessment were performed before and after voice therapy. Results : F0 (fundamental frequency), CPP (cepstral peak prominence) and L/H ratio (low/high spectral ratio) were significantly increased, while CPP Standard deviation, L/H ratio Standard deviation were decreased. In addition, 'Grade', 'Breathiness' and 'Asthenia' were significantly decreased in the GRBAS scale after SOVTE (p<0.05). Conclusion : In our study, SOVTE seemed to be effective to elicit voice quickly and promote vocal folds vibration without muscular effort in patients with functional aphonia.
Transmission tower-line system is one of most critical lifeline systems to cities. However, it is found that the transmission tower-line system is prone to be damaged by earthquakes in past decades. To mitigate seismic demands, this study introduces a tuned-mass damper (TMD) using superelastic shape memory alloy (SMA) spring for the system. In addition, considering the dynamic characteristics of both tower-line system and SMA are affected by temperature change. Particular attention is paid on the effect of temperature variation on seismic behavior. In doing so, the SMA-TMD is installed into the system, and its properties are optimized through parametric analyses. The considered temperature range is from -40 to $40^{\circ}C$. The seismic control effect of using SMA-TMD is investigated under the considered temperatures. Interested seismic performance indices include peak displacement and peak acceleration at the tower top and the height-wise deformation. Parametric analyses on seismic intensity and frequency ratio were carried out as well. This study indicates that the nonlinear behavior of SMA-TMD is critical to the control effect, and proper tuning before application is advisable. Seismic demand mitigation is always achieved in this wide temperature range, and the control effect is increased at high temperatures.

Non-synoptic winds generated by tornadoes, downbursts or gust fronts exhibit significant non-stationarity and can cause significant wind load effect on flexible structures such as long-span bridges. However, conventional assumptions on stationarity used to evaluate the structural wind-induced vibration are inadequate. In this paper, an efficient frequency domain scheme based on fast CQC method, which can predict non-stationary buffeting random responses of long-span bridges, is presented, and then this approach is applied to evaluate the buffeting response of a long-span suspension bridge located in a complex mountainous wind environment as an example. In this study, the data-driven method based on one available measured wind speed sample is firstly presented to establish non-stationary wind models, including time-varying mean wind speed, time-varying intensity envelope function and uniformly modulated fluctuating spectrum. Then, a linear time-variant (LTV) system based on the proposed scheme can be generally applied to calculate the non-stationary buffeting responses. The effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed scheme are verified through Monte Carlo time domain simulation implemented in ANSYS platform. Also, the transient effect nature of the bridge responses is further illustrated by comparison of the non-stationary, quasistationary and steady-state cases. Finally, buffeting response analysis with traditional stationary treatment (10 min constant mean plus stationary wind fluctuation) is performed to illustrate the importance of the non-stationary characteristics embedded in original wind speed samples.

In the context of nonclassical nonlocal strain gradient elasticity, this article studies the free and forced responses of functionally graded material (FGM) porous nanoplates exposed to thermal and magnetic fields under a moving load. The developed mathematical model includes shear deformation, size-scale, miscorstructure influences in the framework of higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) and nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT), respectively. To explore the porosity effect, the study considers four different porosity models across the thickness: uniform, symmetrical, asymmetric bottom, and asymmetric top distributions. The system of quations of motion of the FGM porous nanoplate, including the effects of thermal load, Lorentz force, due to the magnetic field and moving load, are derived using the Hamilton's principle, and then solved analytically by employing the Navier method. For the free and forced responses of the nanoplate, the effects of nonlocal elasticity, strain gradient elasticity, temperature rise, magnetic field intensity, porosity volume fraction, and porosity distribution are analyzed. It is found that the forced vibrations of FGM porous nanoplates under thermal and live loads can be damped by applying a directed magnetic field.
