This paper addresses experimental results carried out to investigate the transmission of seat vibration to the head for Korean. Vertical seat vibration in the frequency range of 0.5-30 Hz was applied to a seated Korean male subject. To examine the intra-variable effects on transmissibility, five different postures and three different vibration excitation levels were considered. The applied acceleration and head accelerations of the seated subject were measured simultaneously by using a 6-axes bite-bar. Detailed experimental results of measured transmissibilities are illustrated for each posture and/or vibration excitation level. They are found to allow the identification of dynamic characteristics of Korean seated body for various real vibration environments. Furthermore, they are expected to be very useful in designing new seats for automotive and railway vehicles and in improving their vibration ride quality.
Fruits are subjected to a variety of vibration stress during the transportation from a production area to markets. Vibration inputs are transmitted from the transporting vehicle through the packaged fruit. And the steady state vibration input may cause serious internal damage of fruit. Product quality of fruits declines by various factors while they are stored right after harvesting and among the substance in charge of post ripening action, ethylene ($C_2H_4$) biosynthesis increases fruits' respiration process after harvesting and decreases storage expectancy. Ethylene production of apples rapidly increases while storage duration becomes longer. This tendency is much clearer for the apples with vibration stress at input acceleration level. When there was no vibration stress, change in ethylene production level of apples are not very large during storage. Ethylene production rates inside the gas collecting container increased significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) after 24 hours storage, particularly for apples with vibration stress ($0.7{\mu}l/kg{\cdot}hr$ (1st stack), $0.78{\mu}l/kg{\cdot}hr$ (2nd stack), $0.96{\mu}l/kg{\cdot}hr$ (3rd stack)); whereas less ethylene was produced in control apples ($0.18{\mu}l/kg{\cdot}hr$ during storage. Also ethylene production rates of apples according to the stack position were significantly different ($p{\leq}0.05$). The vibration stress clearly accelerated the degradation of apple quality during storage, resulting in increased ethylene production.

This paper introduces a base isolation system-tuned mass damper inerter (BIS-TMDI) hybrid system to the AP1000 nuclear power plant (NPP), which reduces seismic damage potential of the NPP structure. The effects of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) caused by the passive containment cooling system water storage tank (PCCWST) on NPP's seismic performance are investigated. The FSI of water tank theoretical model is considered based on the Housner's model, and a series of time history analyses are performed to prove the rationality of the proposed model. Three single-objective optimization strategies are employed to minimize the relative displacement variance and absolute acceleration variance of the upper structure, as well as the filtered energy index (FEI). Furthermore, a multi-objective optimization strategy considering all these three indexes is proposed to obtain optimal parameters of vibration control. The influence of vibration control strategies on the relative deformation and acceleration of the upper structure is explored with various water level ratios. The analytical results indicate that the proposed BIS-TMDI strategy has significantly reduced the NPP structure's seismic response. The effectiveness of the vibration control strategy is influenced by the water level ratio, emphasizing the significance of designing an appropriate water level ratio to reduce NPP structure's seismic response.
Shock and vibration inputs are transmitted from the vehicle through the packaging to the fruit. Inside, these cause sustained bouncing of fruits against each other and container wall. These steady state vibration input may cause serous fruit injury, and this damage is particularly severe whenever the fruit inside the package is free to bounce, and is vibrated at its resonance frequency. The determination of the resonance frequencies of the fruit and vegetables may help the packaging designer to determine the proper packaging system providing adequate protection for the fruit, and to understand the complex interaction between the components of fruit when they relate to expected transportation vibration inputs. Instrumentation and technologies are described for determining the vibration response characteristics of the pears for exporting with frequency range from 10 to 200 Hz, sweep rate of 1 octave/min, sweep method of logarithmic up and down and acceleration levels of 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 G considering the domestic transportation environment. The resonance frequency of the pears ranged from 49.04 to 87.16 Hz and the amplitude at resonance was between 0.96 and 4.02 G in test frequency band and acceleration level. The resonance frequency and amplitude at resonance frequency band of the pears decreased with the increase of the sample mass. The multiple nonlinear regression equations for predicting the resonance frequency of the pears were developed using the independent variables such as mass, input acceleration.
By the reason of increased demand of high productivity and quality, the manufacturer have an effort in many directions of a machine tool industries. Among there, we proposed method of decreasing displacement in MC(machining center). In other words, Quality related with vibration of a tool cutting products. For decreasing it, improved by optimizing a shape of the column-part and acceleration curves of motors. In this paper we could find design factors has much influence on decreasing the displacement using the DOE(Design of Experiments) and optimized the level of the factors using $ADAMS^{(R)}$ and $MINITAB.^{(R)}$ And we suggest optimized a acceleration curve using $Matlab^{(R)}$.
To compare and evaluate the suitability and comfort levels of the environment on board a stern trawl training ship, KAYA(GT: 1737 tons, Pukyong National University), with the international standardization guide ISO 6954:2000(E), measurements of the hull vibration on accommodation areas and working areas of the training ship from July 8 to July 10, 2008 were completed upon KAYA's linear sea route. The vibrations along the z-axis were measured with the use of a 3-axis vibration level meter, which included a marine vibration card. Results show accelerations of the vibrations on the passenger's accommodation area to be 42.0-115.8(average: 78.0, standard deviation(SD): 21.0) mm/$s^2$, which is largely below the permissible upper limit, but 75 % of the observation points exceeded the permissible lower limit of 71.5 mm/$s^2$, indicating a comfortable environment. The accelerations of the vibration in a frequency of 10-24Hz lowering the visual performance were measured at 2.5-12.0(average: 7.6, SD: 3.1) mm/$s^2$. The crew s accommodation area experienced vibration accelerations of 42.9-82.3(average: 93.1, SD: 53.1) mm/$s^2$, which is generally below the permissible upper limit of 214.0 mm/$s^2$, and 62.5% of the observation points did not exceed the permissible lower limit of 107.0 mm/$s^2$, denoting a level of comfort. The acceleration of the vibration in a frequency of 10-24Hz were 4.7-28.3(average: 12.4, SD: 8.8) mm/$s^2$. On the crew s working area the accelerations were measured at 86.9-153.9(average 119.3, SD 18.0) mm/$s^2$. These values were generally below the permissible upper limit of 286.0 mm/$s^2$ and only 12.5% of the observation points did not exceed the permissible lower limit of 143.0 mm/$s^2$, the level at which a high level of comfort is maintained. The accelerations in frequency of 10-24Hz and 30Hz were 9.1-29.8 (average 13.8, SD= 4.5) mm/$s^2$ and 8.9-13.7 (average 11.8, SD 2.1) mm/$s^2$, respectively. In conclusion the boarding environment of the training ship was good in general although an improvement of the vibration condition partially needed on the crew s accommodation area near the engine room.
This paper describes the characteristics of vibration of a hydraulic turbine mainly due to cavitation occurrence. The analysis of vibration spectra of the turbine shaft shows that hub vortex cavitation occurs in the downstream of the turbine runner, which is verified from coherence analysis between shaft vibration displacement and dynamic pressure at the draft tube. Even though acceleration level measured at the guide vane lever, which is usually used for evaluation of cavitations performance, is decreased during forced aeration, it is found from the analysis of dynamic pressure spectra that cavitation around runner blades still remains unchanged. It is also found that lateral vibration of the turbine shaft is mainly due to the hub vortex cavitation of the turbine runner.
This paper addresses experimental results carried out to investigate the characteristics of dynamic mass for Korean. Vertical seat vibration in the frequency range of 0.5-30 Hz was applied to a seated Korean male subject. To examine the intra-variable effects on dynamic mass, five different postures and three different vibration excitation levels were considered. The applied acceleration and transmitted force to the hip of the seated subject were measured simultaneously. Detailed experimental results of measured dynamic mass are illustrated for each posture and/or vibration excitation level. Maximum peaks of around 5 Hz were observed for most experimental cases. They are found to allow the identification of dynamic characteristics of Korean seated body for various real vibration environments. Furthermore, they are expected to be very useful in designing new seats for automotive and railway vehicles and in improving their vibration ride duality.
The ride quality of agricultural tractor seats is evaluated based on the vibration of the human bodies. Tractor ride vibration levels have been measured at the person-seat interface along 7 axes(3 translational axes at the feet, 3 translational axes on a seat surface and 1 axis at the seat back), under different operating conditions. Since one of the most important parameters for ride comfort is the level and duration of the root mean square acceleration experienced, the ride values, such as the seat effective amplitude transmissibility, the component ride value, and the overall ride value based on acceleration root mean square are evaluated for a conventional tractor using frequency weighting functions and axis multiplying factors. The ride indices are also studied considering to the variation of vehicle speed and road profile.
This study is intended to assess low frequency sound radiated from a viaduct under normal traffic. The bridge comprises steel box girders and wide cantilever decks on which vehicles pass. The low frequency sound and the acceleration response of the bridge under normal traffic are measured to investigate how bridge vibrations affect the low frequency sound observed near the bridge. Observations demonstrate that strong relationships exist between frequency characteristic of bridge's acceleration response and the sound pressure level of low frequency sound. A noteworthy point is that the dynamic feature of the sound pressure level is mostly affected by dynamic feature of the span locating near the observation point.
