단일 영상에서 안개 제거 방법을 이용한 객체 검출 알고리즘 개선 (Enhancement of Object Detection using Haze Removal Approach in Single Image)

  • In recent years, with the development of automobile technology, smart system technology that assists safe driving has been developed. A camera is installed on the front and rear of the vehicle as well as on the left and right sides to detect and warn of collision risks and hazards. Beyond the technology of simple black-box recording via cameras, we are developing intelligent systems that combine various computer vision technologies. However, most related studies have been developed to optimize performance in laboratory-like environments that do not take environmental factors such as weather into account. In this paper, we propose a method to detect object by restoring visibility in image with degraded image due to weather factors such as fog. First, the image quality degradation such as fog is detected in a single image, and the image quality is improved by restoring using an intermediate value filter. Then, we used an adaptive feature extraction method that removes unnecessary elements such as noise from the improved image and uses it to recognize objects with only the necessary features. In the proposed method, it is shown that more feature points are extracted than the feature points of the region of interest in the improved image.

An Experimental Study on the H-Beam Under Fire Load in Open Space

  • To validate the fire safety assessment of structures, many structural experiments under fire load have been conducted. However, most of these experiments were conducted in restricted environments, such as inside a furnace, and experiments were seldom carried out in open space. In this study, an experimental study on H-beams, frequently used as structural reinforcements, was carried out for validating the thermal-structural analysis method under development. A 1.8 MW burner fire was adopted with each end of the H-beam fixed without a mechanical load. Gas temperature, steel surface temperature, and displacements were then measured. During the experiment, gas and steel temperatures were obtained at 9 and 17 points near the H-beam, respectively. In addition, the vertical and horizontal displacements of the H-beam under fire load at 6 points were obtained. Furthermore, it was verified that the stable displacement measurements via the contact and non-contact methods were feasible in harsh environments where flames and smoke were both present.

  • Our objective is to evaluate the applicability of segmental phase angle (PhA) via bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) for post-stroke complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). Due to its noninvasiveness and convenience, various studies have used BIA in clinical conditions. We measured segmental PhA in 4 patients at the time of CRPS diagnosis and repeated 4 weeks after 2 weeks of steroid pulse therapy. In 3 cases, the affected-to-unaffected ratio of the upper limb PhA decreased at the time of diagnosis. In 2 cases with improvement of more than 5 points in the CRPS severity score (CSS), increased ratios were observed. In other 2 cases with improvement of less than 4 points in the CSS, no remarkable changes in the ratios were found. We suggest that the segmental PhA can be helpful in assessment of post-stroke CRPS and its recovery.

백서(白鼠)의 경혈(經穴)(LU8, SP5, HT4, KI7, PC5, LR4) 침자(針刺)가 Nitric Oxide Synthase 및 Norepinephrine의 변화에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effects of Acupuncture at the River Points(LU8, HT4, PC5, SP5, KI7, LR4) on the Changes of Nitric Oxide Synthase and Norepinephrine in Rats)

  • Objectives : The Meridians and acupuncture points are the fundamental theories for acupuncture therapy. They have been associated with nervous system, but It is not well defined. We investigated that the effects of acupuncture at the river points(LU8, HT4, PC5, SP5, KI7, LR4) on the changes in the expression of nNOS, iNOS, eNOS, and NE in rats. Methods : The Male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 6 groups each non-acupuncture and acupuncture group. We inserted needle and retained for 5 minutes on both left and right sides of LU8, HT4, PC5, SP5, KI7, LR4 which were the river points of five transport points for 6 yin meridian vessels. After that, blood was drawn via cardiac puncture, and tissues for each point near meridian vessels were extracted to examine the changes in the changes of nNOS, eNOS, iNOS and NE. Results : The LU8 and HT4 group showed a significant decrease on nNOS. In terms of eNOS and iNOS, the LU8 group decreased significantly while the KI7 group increased significantly. However, the experimental groups didn't show any significant changes on the plasma and tissue norepinephrine without plama NE in SP5 group. Conclusions : The effect on the nNOS, iNOS, eNOS of acupuncture at LU8 and KI7 could be observed, and it is considered that the effect of acupuncture related with on nervous system could be studied by additional researches based on this one.

한.미항공협정(韓.美航空協定)의 문제점(問題點)과 개선방향(改善方向) (Analysis on the Problems of U.S.-Korea Air Services Agreement and Recommend Action for its Improvement-)

  • This paper is examine the problems of U.S.-Korea Air Service Agreement and recommend some directions for its improvement under the rapidly changing circumstance and growing importance of Korean penisula. Since the provisional agreement of 1949, U.S. -Korea Air Service Agreement has consistently been favorable to U.S. side. Fair and equal opportunity is the principle and basis of the bilateral air agreement. Notwithstanding such principle, it is only the U.S. carriers who can freely enter into any market, under the discretion of business strategy, while Korean carrier can serve only three points including Honolulu. In an effort to recitify such serious imbalance, Korea continuousely requested additional rights and has given utmost efforts to accommodate requests made by U.S. carries without much success. When we review aviation market between Korea and U.S. under the present agreement, Korea is fully open to U.S. carries as they can connect from any or all points in the U.S. via any or all points in Korea and all points beyond Korea. Increased number of U.S. carriers are enjoying greater utilization of the opportunity accorded them. Four(4) U.S. carries now operate to Korea using thirteen(13) gateway points and about one hundred fifty(150) on-line points in the U.S. such imbalance can be well understood when we review the exchange of traffic rights between the U.S. and the Pacific rim countries. During the yeras following the 1978 agreement with Korea, the U.S. proceeded to sign liberal agreements with Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore and the Phillipines. In exchange, the U.S. granted the four Pacific rim countries substantially greater rights than were granted to Korea, although Korea was the first Asian nation to sign a pro-competitive aviation agreement which granted U.S. carriers unrestricted market access and pricing flexibility. Moreover, Korea ranks the 2nd trading and tourist partner to the U.S. among the Pacific rim countries (Japan is the largest partner to the U.S. in terms of both trade and tourist market). In this paper such problems in the Korea-U.S. Air Services Agreement are analyzed in terms of historical perspective, U.S. Aviation policy, imbalance status in detail cases, discrimination to Korea comparing to other Asian countries, and theoretical application. And further it discusses current aviation issues between Korea and U.S. such as the ratification of 1980 MOU and various doing business issues of U.S. carriers in Korea. Finally, this paper concludes the analysis and suggests some directions to improve and rectify the problems and imbalance of U.S.-Korea Air Services Agreement in question.

RFID를 이용한 국가기준점 원격 모니터링 웹 시스템 개발 (Development of Remote Mornitoring Web System for National Control Points using RFID Tags)

  • 우리나라에는 전국적으로 약 22,000개의 국가기준점이 설치되어 있다. 그러나 국가기준점의 위치정보를 확인하기 위해서는 기준점 성과표가 필요하며, 국가 주요시설임에도 불구하고 산 정상과 같은 야외에 설치되어 있기 때문에 보호시설이 없는 상태에서 현장점검을 통해서만 관리되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 국가기준점 표석에 부착할 수 있고, 국가기준점이 설치된 환경을 고려한 특수 RFID 태그를 제작하였으며, CDMA 통신이 가능한 PDA기반 모바일 Web 시스템과 국가기준점 관제시스템을 개발하였다. 본 시스템 개발을 통하여 기준점 정보를 현장에서 파악할 수 있고, 국가기준점 관리자가 기준점의 관리 상태 및 사용 이력 등을 파악할 수 있도록 하였다. 본 시스템을 적용할 경우 전국에 산재해있는 국가기준점 정보를 누구나 손쉽게 확인할 수 있고 정보의 변화에 따른 빠른 대응이 가능하며, 관리의 효율성이 높아질 것이다. 향후 유비쿼터스 사회가 도래하면 위치정보의 중요성이 높아질 것이다. 따라서 일반인의 위치정보 확인이 용이한 RFID를 이용한 국가기준점은 측량전문가와 같은 기준점 사용자 및 관리자에게 유용할 뿐만 아니라 일반인을 대상으로 하는 위치기반 부가서비스 창출할 수 있을 것이며, 절대위치 정보 제공 측면에서도 중요한 국가 인프라가 될 것이다.

DMNQ S-52, a new shikonin derivative, inhibits lymph node metastasis via inhibition of MMPs production

  • Our previous study showed that a novel synthetic shikonin derivative, 6-(1-hydroxyimino-4-methylpentyl)5,8-dimethyoxy 1,4-naphthoquinone S-52 (DMNQ S-52) induced apoptosis. In the present study, we investigated its anti-metastatic activities as compared with shikonin because DMNQ S-52 was synthesized for overcoming weak points of shikonin such as high toxicity, low solubility and deleterious effects. DMNQ S-52 showed the weaker cytotoxicity $(IC_{50};\;12.3{\pm}1.6\;{\mu}M)$ against Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) cells than that of shikonin $(IC_{50};\;4.2{\pm}1.1\;{\mu}M)$. DMNQ S-52, at non-toxic concentrations $(less\;than\;10\;{\mu}M)$, significantly inhibited the invasion and migration of LLC cells. DMNQ S-52 also significantly inhibited the production of MMP-9, MTl-MMP and uPAR. Moreover, daily i.p. administration of DMNQ S-52 at dose of 5 mg/kg in mice resulted in a potent inhibition of the primary tumor size of LLC in the lung as well as the metastasis of lymph nodes. These findings suggest that the DMNQ S-52 has therapeutic potential to inhibit metastasis via inhibition of MMP family and uPA/plasminogen system.

리얼 타임 리눅스 시스템 설계 (Real Time Linux System Design)

  • In this paper, we implemented the object scanning with nxtOSEK which is an open source platform. nxtOSEK consists of device driver of leJOS NXJ C/Assembly source code, TOPPERS/ATK(Automotive real time Kernel) and TOPPERS/JSP Real-Time Operating System source code that includes ARM7 specific porting part, and glue code make them work together. nxtOSEK can provide ANSI C by using GCC tool chain and C API and apply for real-time multi tasking features. We experimented the 3D scanning with ultra sonic and laser sensor which are made directly by laser module diode and experimented the measurement of scanning the object by knowing x, y, and z coordinates for every points that it scans. In this paper, the laser module is the dimension of $6{\times}10[mm]$ requiring 5volts/5[mW], and used the laser light of wavelength in the 650[nm] range. For detecting the object, we used the beacon detection algorithm and as the laser light swept the objects, the photodiode monitored the ambient light at interval of 10[ms] which is called a real time. We communicated the 3D scanning platform via bluetooth protocol with host platform and the results are displayed via DPlot graphic tool. And therefore we enhanced the functionality of the 3D scanner for identifying the image scanning with laser sensor modules compared to ultra sonic sensor.

Efficiency and Robustness of Fully Adaptive Simulated Maximum Likelihood Method

  • When a part of data is unobserved the marginal likelihood of parameters given the observed data often involves analytically intractable high dimensional integral and hence it is hard to find the maximum likelihood estimate of the parameters. Simulated maximum likelihood(SML) method which estimates the marginal likelihood via Monte Carlo importance sampling and optimize the estimated marginal likelihood has been used in many applications. A key issue in SML is to find a good proposal density from which Monte Carlo samples are generated. The optimal proposal density is the conditional density of the unobserved data given the parameters and the observed data, and attempts have been given to find a good approximation to the optimal proposal density. Algorithms which adaptively improve the proposal density have been widely used due to its simplicity and efficiency. In this paper, we describe a fully adaptive algorithm which has been used by some practitioners but has not been well recognized in statistical literature, and evaluate its estimation performance and robustness via a simulation study. The simulation study shows a great improvement in the order of magnitudes in the mean squared error, compared to non-adaptive or partially adaptive SML methods. Also, it is shown that the fully adaptive SML is robust in a sense that it is insensitive to the starting points in the optimization routine.

REINSTATEMENT OF LONG-DISTANCE INTERNATIONAL TRADE AFTER THE ARAB CONQUEST: THE KHAZAR-ARAB PARTNERSHIP ON THE SILK ROAD IN THE 9-10th CENTURIES

  • The article studies the new situation in international long distance trade after the emergence of new superpower - Arab Caliphate - in Eurasian overland tracks of the Great Silk Road. The stages of Arab advancement along trade routes and outcomes of their contestation with the strong tribal confederations of Turkic nomads in Central Asia and the Caucasus are highlighted. A special focus is made upon the relationship of Arabs with Khazar Turks who have endured severe clashes with strongest army of the time in the region. Khazar kingdom survived and even expanded its control over the tracks of international trade in the western part of Eurasia. The research describes the way how trade partnership between Arabs and Turks was shaped in the aftermath of military clashes. Existing scholarly views on the role of Khazar in Silk Road are reviewed and unattended evidence of Arab sources are involved to support concluding points that Khazar state managed to consolidate various actors for maintenance of international trade such as so called Rus warriors and merchants in the west of Volga, nomadic tribes in Eurasian steppes, and Jewish trading gild named ar-rahdaniyya in Arab sources. It is asserted that Khazar state since the second half of 9th century through its decline in mid 10th century not only served as transit space for goods of exporting countries but also exported goods of its own crafts and natural resources.
