A 9-year-old, female Yorkshire terrier and a 10-year-old, female Maltese were referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Konkuk University. The dogs were presented with severe swelling and cutaneous sinus tract on the left suborbital lesion. Under general anesthesia, we performed physical, intraoral examinations and survey radiography, and diagnosed as periapical abscess in a left fourth premolar tooth. They were treated with tooth extraction, and the sinus tracts were drained with 0.05% chlorhexidine solution. After teeth extractions, medication applied by the result of antibiotic sensitivity test. During follow-up 10 months later, the left suborbital swelling had completely resolved.

A four-year-old intact female poodle was referred with a history of ocular discharge and corneal ulcer to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University. The dog was diagnosed severe keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye) on bilateral eye. As the dog was not response to the ophthalmic medication, acupuncture treatment was applied to the dog. After 2 months from treatment, the dog was completely recovered from keratoconjunctivitis sicca. It is suggested that traditional veterinary medicine might be effective alternative therapy for the patient with keratoconjunctivitis sicca.

A 7.1 kg, seven-year old, castrated male, Shih-Tzu with severe pruritus, chronic otitis externa and Malassezia infection was referred to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. In local animal hospital, steroid therapy was used to treat uncontrollable pruritus, but the clinical signs were recurrent when steroid therapy was discontinued. On physical examination, generalized alopecia, erythema, papules, severe crust and diffuse lichenification were presented. Tape strip test of skin lesions revealed cocci and Malassezia infections. Based on the result of history, clinical signs and examination described above, canine atopic dermatitis with secondary superficial pyoderma and Malassezia dermatitis was diagnosed. Oral challenge with cyclosporine and antibiotics had good results in clinical signs. Clinical sign scores were evaluated by investigator with CADESI at 2weeks, 4weeks, 6weeks, 8weeks and 10weeks after cyclosporine administration. And in the result of comparing of allergen-specific IgE value, the level of allergen-specific IgE to general causative allergen after 10 weeks of cyclosporine therapy was higher than that before cyclosporine therapy.

Three calves which were born in a village with similar symptoms that urine ran down along the inner femoral region were referred to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Kyungpook National University. On physical examination, there were aplasia of the penis, ventrally incomplete sheath and bifid scrotum in common. Blood cell count test and blood biochemistry test were performed and then diagnostic radiography was carried out in a case. Retrograde positive cystograph showed normal urinary bladder and no other urogenital abnormalities. The shape and size of the testes were normal on ultrasonographs, yet intact urethral wall was not detected. These cases were diagnosed as hypospadias.

A 1.83 kg, 9-year-old, spayed female Yorkshire Terrier was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Konkuk University for evaluation of an intra-abdominal mass with a week history of vomiting and diarrhea. On physical examination, survey radiography, abdominal ultrasonography, and computed tomography, a huge firm mass was identified in the mid-caudal abdomen. Surgical exploration of the abdominal cavity was performed to remove the mass. The encapsulated mass adhered to the mesentery, tail of the spleen, small intestine, omentum, and right lobe of the pancreas was removed using blunt dissection with dry gauze and cotton swabs. Macroscopic and histopathological examination revealed that the mass was foreign-body granuloma consistent with gauze fiber. Plain abdominal radiography demonstrated no remarkable findings 8 months post-operatively. There was no evidence of vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, difficulty breathing, and cyanosis on exertion 13 months post-operatively.

A 7-year-old castrated male Pomeranian dog presented with severe goose honking cough and dyspnea. Thoracic radiographs revealed a narrowed tracheal diameter at the thoracic inlet, classified as tracheal collapse grade 4. Despite medical treatment, the dog's life-threatening airway obstruction did not improve. Subsequently, tracheal stent placement resulted in a significant improvement in respiratory condition, with no recurrence of symptoms observed during the 4-month period, except for coughing induced by excitement and anxiety. However, the patient presented with a one-week history of productive cough, exercise intolerance, and loss of appetite. Radiographs and computed tomography scans revealed torsion of the left cranial lung lobe. The patient underwent affected lung lobectomy, which involved the removal of the necrotized cranial portion and heavily congested caudal portion. Unfortunately, the patient did not recover and eventually passed away. Histopathological examination of the resected lung tissue confirmed coagulative necrosis and marked peribronchiolar edema, consistent with lung lobe torsion.

An 11-year-old castrated male Maltese weighing 3.6 kg and a 12-year-old intact female Shih-tzu weighing 6.5 kg were admitted to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with decompensatory congestive heart failure. Diuretic resistance was suspected due to long term diuretic therapy with furosemide. However, the patients improved after the furosemide treatment was changed to torsemide, demonstrating the benefits of application of torsemide to treat diuretic resistance caused by long term use of furosemide. These findings suggest that torsemide should be applied for treatment of diuretic resistance caused by long term use of furosemide.

A miniature schnauzer (8 years old, male castrated), diagnosed as diabetes mellitus 6 months ahead, were referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of our University with hindlimb stiffness, facial rubbing and tetany. Serum chemistry showed severe hypocalcemia, hypomagnesemia, and measured iPTH (intact pharathyroid hormone) concentration was low (< 3.0 pmol/L). Consistent rate injection of calcium gluconate (282 mg/kg over 30 min) resulted in prompt relief of the tetany. Then typical treatment for hypoparathyroidism (calcium gluconate and dihydrotachysterol per os) with magnesium administration could control the neuromuscular signs. Diabetes mellitus is being controlled by insulin therapy and prescription diet. Hypomagnesemia in diabetic dog may be induced hypoparathyrodism.

A 5-year-old neutered female Dachshund dog presented with a 3-month history of hyperthermia, skin lesions, and shifting lameness. Based on physical examination, blood tests, urinalysis, and radiographs, the dog was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus. Clinical signs improved after administration of prednisolone and cyclosporine but relapsed after the prednisolone was reduced due to side effects. Oral levamisole was commenced and the other immunosuppressants were tapered over a period of 2 months and then stopped. Levamisole was retained as the sole therapy for an additional 2 months. Six months after discontinuation of all treatment, the patient remained in remission.
