  • This paper implements and integrates algorithms for terrain following of UCAVs (Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles): trajectory generation, guidance, and navigation. Terrain following is very important for UCAVs because they perform very dangerous missions such as Suppression of Enemy Air Defences while the terrain following can improve the survivability of UCAVs against from the air defence systems of the enemy. To deal with the GPS jamming, terrain referenced navigation based on nonlinear filter is chosen. For the trajectory generation, Voronoi diagram is adopted to generate horizontal plane path to avoid the air defense system. Cubic spline method is used to generate vertical plane path to prevent collisions with ground while flying sufficiently close to surface. Follow-the-Carrot and pure pursuit tracking methods, which are look-ahead point based guidance algorithms, are applied for the guidance. Numerical simulation is performed to verify the performance of the integrated terrain following algorithm.

  • In this paper, we design and fabricate an ultra small dual crossed dipole antenna operating at 2.4 GHz frequency. In order to miniaturize the size of the antenna so that it can be applied to a mobile device, a cross dipole is disposed on the upper two layers and a reflection plane, a horizontal matching circuit and a ground plane are arranged on each layer. The circuit was connected by a vertical through-hole. The size of the fabricated antenna is $21.61mm{\times}16.88mm{\times}1.27mm$, the measured reflection coefficient is -31.5 dB, and the bandwidth below -10 dB is 112 MHz. In addition, since the gain of the antenna is -4 dBi, it has the omnidirectional radiation characteristic, so it can be applied to various fields as an antenna for mobile devices.

  • A self-travelling sprayer was developed to avoid the exposure of an operator to agricultural chemicals and exhaust gas, to improve safety and to increase working efficiency during the application and transport work in the greenhouses. This system consists of self-travelling system and the control system for application and safety device. The auto-spray car is equipped with a liquid chemical tank of 80l capacity. The travelling system adopted mechanical steering system which link mechanism of front wheel is guided by guide rollers. The sprayer travels along the guiding pipe which is set on the furrow in the greenhouses. The sprayer stops automatically applying and traveling when the liquid chemical tank becomes empty or when the sprayer reach the turning point. The spray booms swings in a vertical plane. The control system of safety devices controls the automatic stop of the sprayer when there is an obstacle on the traveling path, or when the battery becomes discharged. The auto-spray car traveled smoothly and steadily along the guide pipe during traveling straightly and turning on the ground.

  • This paper reviews the improved moving frame acoustic holography (MFAH) method and its application. Moving frame acoustic holography was originally proposed to increase the aperture size and the spatial resolution of hologram by using a moving line array of microphones. The hologram of scanned plane can be obtained by assuming the sound field to be product of spatial and temporal information. Although conventional MFAH was only applied to sinusoidal signals, it allows us to visualize the noise generated by moving noise sources by employing a vertical line array of microphones affixed to the ground. However, the sound field generated by moving sources becomes different from that of stationary ones due to the movement of the sources. Firstly, this paper introduces the effect of moving noise sources on the obtained hologram by MFAH and the applicability of MFAH to the visualization of moving sources. Secondly, this paper also reviews improved MFAH that can visualize a coherent narrow band noise and a pass-by noise. The practical applicability of the improved MFAH was demonstrated by visualizing tire noise during a pass-by test.

  • Dynamic analysis of a typical concrete gravity dam-reservoir system is formulated by FE-(FE-TE) approach (i.e., Finite Element-(Finite Element-Truncation Element)). In this technique, dam and reservoir are discretized by plane solid and fluid finite elements. Moreover, the H-W (i.e., Hagstrom-Warburton) high-order condition imposed at the reservoir truncation boundary. This task is formulated by employing a truncation element at that boundary. It is emphasized that reservoir far-field is excluded from the discretized model. The formulation is initially reviewed which was originally proposed in a previous study. Thereafter, the response of Pine Flat dam-reservoir system is studied due to horizontal and vertical ground motions for two types of reservoir bottom conditions of full reflective and absorptive. It should be emphasized that study is carried out under high order of H-W condition applied on the truncation boundary. The initial part of study is focused on the time harmonic analysis. In this part, it is possible to compare the transfer functions against corresponding responses obtained by FE-(FE-HE) approach (referred to as exact method). Subsequently, the transient analysis is carried out. In that part, it is only possible to compare the results for low and high normalized reservoir length cases. Therefore, the sensitivity of results is controlled due to normalized reservoir length values.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect and short-term results of the modified Mau osteotomy designed by the author. Materials and Methods: Seventeen feet treated with newly designed osteotomy from 2003 to 2004 were included. We performed metatarsal osteotomy and distal soft tissue procedure on 17 feet (12 patients) and additional Akin osteotomy on 6 feet (4 patients). An oblique osteotomy was made from the neck in the dorsum, aiming proximal to the base of the first metatarsal with vertical short arm on the base. We performed long arm of osteotomy parellel to the acrylic plate which was supposed as ground plane. Preoperative radiographs and follow up radiographs at three month were used for radiologic evaluation. Results: Mean hallux valgus angle was $43.6^{\circ}$ and mean intermetatarsal angle was $20.4^{\circ}$ on preoperative weight bearing radiograph. Mean amount of correction of the hallux valgus angle was $37.5^{\circ}$ and intermetatarsal angle was $14.2^{\circ}$ at three months after operation. There was no fixation loss or malunion, and the clinical result was subjectively exellent. Conclusion: More proximal rotational axis can achieve sufficient intermetatarsal angle correction, and vertical arm can provide more stable contact. So this newly modified Mau osteotomy was considered as a good alternative procedure in the treatment of severe hallux valgus.

  • Objective: This study tried to examine the muscle activity of the neck and trunk according to head posture changes during use of laptops. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: This study included nineteen young men and women. All subjects maintained each posture while practice typing on laptops for ten minutes with a 5-minute break between each posture. For the neutral head posture, the subjects practiced typing while pulling their chins down towards the Adam's apple and were able to look at their knees while having their external auditory meatus, acromion, and greater trochanter vertical to the ground. For the natural head posture, they practiced typing while balancing their posture between extension and flexion of the cervical vertebrae by themselves without any guidelines. While a forward head posture was created by having their heads face the front horizontal to the rope hanging from the ceiling, they practiced typing with their external auditory meatus located in the place which was 5 cm in front of the vertical plane. The subjects used general word process but practiced typing with accuracy and high speed. Muscle activities were randomly measured using surface electromyography according to each postures. Results: The research result had found that muscle activity with the natural head posture was more significantly reduced than that of the forward head posture in the sternocleidomastoid muscle, upper trapezius, cervical vertebral spinae, and thoracic vertebrae spinae muscles (p<0.05) and that the neutral head posture was more significantly reduced than that of forward head posture in the upper trapezius, cervical vertebral spinae, and thoracic vertebrae spinae muscle activity (p<0.05) with significant increases in lumbar spinae muscle activity (p<0.05). Also, muscle activity with the neutral head posture significantly increased more in the sternocleidomastoid muscle and lumbar spinae than that of the natural posture (p<0.05). Conclusions: Our study results suggest that in order to prevent musculoskeletal pain, the neutral head posture with use of laptops is effective in reducing load to the shoulders and vitalizing the postural muscles.

  • In this paper, a slot-coupled microstrip antenna with switchable polarization is proposed for the polarization diversity applications in the complicated communication environment. The proposed antenna is fed by a microstrip line through one of two slots located with the interval of $\lambda{g}/4$ in the ground plane. By switching the PIN diode between opened and shorted termination which is located at the tip of the microstrip line, the switching function between horizontal and vertical polarization was confirmed experimentally. The measured resonant frequencies of the fabricated antenna are $2.41\;\cal{GHz}\;2.40\;\cal{GHz}$ and the cross polarization levels are $19\;\cal{dB},\;23\;\cal{dB},\;the\;-10\;\cal{dB}$ return loss bandwidths are $95\;\cal{MHz}\;100\;\cal{MHz}$ in horizontal and vertical polarization, respectively, and the antenna gain is almost $6\;\cal{dBi}$.

  • Large scale model tests and numerical analyses are performed to investigate the stress distribution of pillar due to surface loading nearby two-arch tunnel which is constructed in the regularly jointed rocks. It is observed that the influence of discontinuities on the stress distribution in the discontinuous rock mass and the underground stresses induced by surface loading are greater than those of linear elastic theory. Especially, lines of equal stresses are developed to the direction of inclination according to the inclined grade. In cases of discontinuities imbedded in parallel with or vertical to the ground, the pressure bulbs are formed symmetrically, however, the inclined ones result in stress distribution in parallel with and vertical to the planes of discontinuities. Results indicated that stress distribution is seriously affected by the angle of discontinuity. When stresses propagating to the pillar need to be estimated, relative location of surface loading, grade of discontinuous plane, and location of two-arch tunnel should be carefully considered.
