A series of centrifugal model test was conducted to investigate the distribution of vertical earth pressure on circular ductile underground corrugated steel plate waterway culvert with considering the compaction degree of the backfill in the high landfilled embankment section. The compaction degree of backfill was varied to 80, 85, 90, and 95% at the 53g-level gravity considering the similarity of the site. As a result of this test, the load reduction factor by the arching effect of the top of corrugated steel plate showing ductile behavior nearly agreed with the load reduction factor according to the compaction degree of backfill specified in the AISI(2002) design method. The vertical earth pressure measured at the top of the corrugated steel plate was linearly decreased as the compaction degree increased. The greater the compaction degree of backfill was, the greater the reduction of surface loading on the top of the corrugated steel plate by arching effect. The load decreased by arching effect on top of the corrugated steel plate was transferred to the side backfill of the corrugated steel plate(EP 1) and the outside of backfill(EP 3).
By performing a statistical change-point analysis of activities of the tropical cyclones (TCs) that have affected Korea (K-TCs), it was found that there was a significant change between 1983 and 1984. During the period of 1984-2004 (P2), more TCs migrated toward the west, recurved in the southwest, and affected Korea, compared to the period of 1965-1983 (P1). These changes for P2 were related to the southwestward expansion of the subtropical western North Pacific high (SWNPH) and simultaneously elongation of its elliptical shape toward Korea. Because of these changes, the central pressure and lifetime of K-TC during P2 were deeper and longer, respectively, than figures for P1. This stronger K-TC intensity for P2 was related to the more southwestward genesis due to the southwestward expansion of the SWNPH. The weaker vertical wind shear environment during P2 was more favorable for K-TC to maintain a strong intensity in the mid-latitudes of East Asia.

This study analyzes the velocity and pressure incurred by protruding shapes installed within the inlet part of a pressurized membrane module during operation to determine the fluid flow distribution. In this paper, to find the flow distribution within a module, it investigates the velocity and pressure values at cross-sectional and outlet planes, and 9 sections classified on outlet plane using computational fluid dynamics. From the Reynolds number (Re), the fluid flow was estimated to be turbulent when the Re exceeded 4,000. In the vertical cross-sectional plane, shape 4 and 6 (round-type protrusion) showed the relatively high velocity of 0.535 m/s and 0.558 m/s, respectively, indicating a uniform flow distribution. From the velocity and pressure at the outlet, shape 4 also displayed a relatively uniform fluid velocity and pressure, indicating that fluid from the inlet rapidly and uniformly reached the outlet, however, from detailed data of velocity, pressure and flowrate obtained from 9 sections at the outlet, shape 6 revealed the low standard deviations for each section. Therefore, shape 6 was deemed to induce the ideal flow, since it maintained a uniform pressure, velocity and flowrate distribution.

In this study, an overtopping model experiments and three dimensional seepage characteristics at the deteriorated homogeneous reservoirs were performed to investigate the behavior of failure for embankment and spillway transitional zone due to overtopping. The failure pattern, pore water pressure, earth pressure and settlement by overtopping were compared and analyzed. The pattern of the failure by overtopping was gradually enlarged towards reservoirs crest from the spillway transition zone at initial stage. In the rapid stage and peak stage, the width and depth of failure gradually increased, and the pattern of the failure appeared irregular and several direction of the erosion. In the early stage, the pore water pressure at spillway transitional zone was more affected as its variation and failure width increased. In the peak stage, the pore water pressure was significantly increased in all locations due to the influence of seepage. The earth pressure increased gradually according to overtopping stage. The pore pressure by the numerical analysis was larger than the experimental value, and the analysis was more likely to increase steadily without any apparent variation. The horizontal and vertical displacements were the largest at the toe of slope and at the top of the dam crest, respectively. The results of this displacement distribution can be applied as a basis for determining the position of reinforcement at the downstream slope and the crest. The collapse in the overtopping stage began with erosion of the most vulnerable parts of the dam crest, and the embankment was completely collapsed as the overtopping stage increased.
In this study, an improved modular arch system with the lower arch space composed of a precast arch block and an outrigger was proposed as an underground culvert, and its applicability and structural behaviors were confirmed. This modular arch culvert structure with vertical walls was designed using precast blocks and by adjusting the placement spacing of concrete blocks to the upper part form an arch shape and the lower part form a vertical wall shape, based on previously researched modular arch systems. Owing to the vertical wall of the proposed modular arch system, it is possible to secure a load-carrying capacity and an arch space that can sufficiently resist the earth pressure generated from the backfill soil and loading on the arch system. To verify the structural characteristics, and applicability of the proposed modular precast arch culvert structure, a full-scale modular culvert specimen was fabricated, and a loading test was conducted. By examining its construction process and loading test results, the applicability and constructability of the proposed structure were analyzed along with its structural characteristics. In addition, its the structural predictability and safety for the applicability were evaluated by comparing the construction process and loading test results with the FE analysis results.
The analysis of corrugated steel pipes is depending on a second dimension frame analysis or compressed ring model. This is the analysis not to consider the behavior of soil-structure interaction. The behavior of load resistance system is varied according to the depth of cover and the spacing of corrugated steel pipes structure. Therefore, the behavior characteristic of corrugated steel pipes was confirmed through finite element analysis to consider the activity of soil-structure interaction. If soil cover is filled up to the more of optimal depth, behavior of corrugated steel pipes are similar to those of ductile steel pipes according to the earth pressure distribution and effects of traffic loads are decreased. But, If soil cover is filled up to the less of optimal depth, corrugated steel pipes can't behave completely as ductile steel pipes because the passive earth pressure acting on side of corrugated steel pipes is decreased according to the decrement of vertical earth pressure, and the traffic loads influence on the section forces is increased, so that the traffic loads dominated the behavior of corrugated steel pipes.
Researches on the induced trench method using compressible materials such as clay, mud, straw have been performed to reduce the load acting on buried conduits under a high fill in USA and Canada. And in-situ tests on load reductionmethod using EPS block as a compressible inclusion have been performed in Japan and Norway. Using a EPS block as a compressible materials can have various benefits such as cost-effective design, enlargement of safety and easy construction of structure under high fills. This paper analyzes the arching material function of EPS which can result in reduction of earth pressure by arching effect in Corrugated Steel Pipe. A series of tests were conducted to evaluate the reduction of earth pressure on conduits using EPS. Based on field test it is found that the magnitude of vertical earth pressure on conduits was reduced to about 35∼40% compared with conventional flexible conduit systems.
A set of slurry shield test system capable of cutter cutting and slurry automatic circulation is used to investigate the deformation characteristics, the evolution characteristics of support resistance and the distribution and evolution process of earth pressure during excavating and collapsing of slurry shield tunneling in circular-gravel layer. The influence of cover-span ratio on surface subsidence, support resistance and failure mode of excavation face is also discussed. Three-dimensional numerical calculations are performed to verify the reliability of the test results. The results show that, with the decrease of the supporting force of the excavation face, the surface subsidence goes through four stages: insensitivity, slow growth, rapid growth and stability. The influence of shield excavation on the axial earth pressure of the front soil is greater than that of the vertical earth pressure. When the support resistance of the excavation face decreases to the critical value, the soil in front of the excavation face collapses. The shape of the collapse is similar to that of a bucket. The ultimate support resistance increase with the increase of the cover-span ratio, however, the angle between the bottom of the collapsed body and the direction of the tunnel excavation axis when the excavation face is damaged increase first and then becomes stable. The surface settlement value and the range of settlement trough decrease with the increase of cover-span ratio. The numerical results are basically consistent with the model test results.

The influence of anchor slope on behavior of sheet pile is analysed by results of model test. It can be seen that the larger inclination of anchor causes more causes more increases of the horizontal and vertical deflection of wall, but the bending moment is less influenced by the inclination of anchor. The negative friction against vertical settlement of wall has the yielding point at the excavation level of 0.71-0.80 H. The redistribution of earth pressure on the sheet pile with dredging must be considered by soil-arching. The zero pressure point from the toe of wall is 20% higher than that of the Free Earth Support Method. It is also observed that the angle of failure planes to major principal plane is larger than the angle of $45^{\circ}+{\phi}/2$.

On 21st century, global warming is the most serious environmental problem threatening the existence of lives on the earth. One of the serious reasons of this nature phenomena was due to the greenhouse effect by carbon dioxide mainly produced with the combustion process of hydro-carbon fuel. and it is mostly produced. In the high oil prices age, intensification of energy efficiency promotion in the building sector is required. Windows are dominating large percentage whole building loads, and are regarding as the primary target of energy efficiency. The purpose of this research is on the obtaining of the renewable energy source in the skyscrape buildings in the metropolitan area. The air movement is happens due to the atmospheric pressure differences in the air. Due to this simple physical theory, it is easily expected to obtain the useful renewable nature energy through the high -raised vertical air stack installed in a tall building. However, there is one problem that should be resolved which is called air-hole effect in the sky -scrape buildings.
