수평배수재 배열의 진공압밀효과에 대한 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis on Effects of Horizontal Drain Arrangement of Vacuum Consolidation)

  • This paper is results of numerical works of investigating effects of horizontal drain arrangements on vacuum consolidation. Extensive numerical analyses were carried out to find the appropriate arrangements of horizontal drain of vacuum consolidation. Commercially available program of CRISP, well known to be good to modelling the behavior of clay material, was used Cam-clay model, based on the Critical State of Soil Mechanics(CSSM), was used to simulate the geotechnical engineering behavior of clay. Model test results carried out previously in the laboratory were compared with numerically estimated results and it was found that results about consolidational settlement with times were in good agreements. Based on this confirmation, parametric numerical study was performed to investigate effects of horizontal drain arrangements on vacuum consolidation with changing the vertical and horizontal spacings between drains for the given soil properties and vacuum. The effect of distance of drain located in top layer from the surface of the ground on the settlement due to vacuum was also investigated. As a results of numerical analyses, appropriate arrangements of horizontal drain to maximize the consolidation settlement due to vacuum were found. The mechanism of vacuum consolidation about the vacuum pressures being transferred to the effective stresses around drains was also evaluated.

  • LTE-Advanced system has been deployed with 2 and 4 transmission antennas (Tx) while the specification supports up to 8Tx. Due to deployment space, antenna dimension and complexity, the needs of deploying 8Tx system has not been motivated by operators. Recently, three dimensional (3D) beamforming with active antenna has attracted significant attention in the wireless industry. By incorporating 2D active array into LTE-A systems, the system offers freedom in controlling radiation on elevation and horizontal dimension. When the number of antennas increases in the form of 2D arrangement, spatial separation can be realized simultaneously in horizontal and elevation domain and vertical beam-steering can increase SINR of UEs in high floors. In this paper, we study the system operations and implementations for supporting 3D beamforming with 8Tx antennas. In our schemes, by reusing the conventional CSI feedback framework, the system can operate 2D active array without harming the backward compatibility. Evaluation results show that 3D beamforming provides capacity boosting over the conventional 2D beamforming systems while keeping same antenna structure.

Comparison of Cervical Musculoskeletal Kinematics in Two Different Postures of Primate During Voluntary Head Tracking

  • We have examined the effect on neck-muscle activation of altering whole body posture. A Rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta) was trained to produce sinusoidal (0.25 Hz) head tracking movements in the sagittal plane when seated with trunk and head vertical or while standing in the quadrupedal position. Video-fluoroscopic images of cervical vertebral motion, and electromyographic (EMG) responses were recorded simultaneously. Results demonstrated that vertebral motion varied with body posture, occurring synchronously between all joints in the upright position and primarily at skull-$C_1$ when in the quadrupedal position. Muscle EMG activation was significantly greater (P<0.001) in the quadrupedal position than when upright for all muscles except semispinalis cervicis. Peak activation of all the muscles occurred prior to peak head extension in the quadrupedal position, suggesting synchronous activity between muscles. Data suggest that, when upright, muscles were activated in functional groupings defined by their anatomical arrangement. In the quadrupedal position, gravity acting on the horizontally oriented head produced greater activation and a collective response of the muscles.

맨틀형 축열조의 열전달 성능 및 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the heat transfer characteristics and performance of storage tanks with mantle heat exchanger)

  • The heat transfer characteristics of horizontal and vertical mantle heat storage tanks are studied in order to replace the tank-coil heat exchanger for application in thermosyphon solar water heaters. In this study, 5 mantle storage tanks with different geometric shape are manufactured into stainless steel and each tank is tested. For the test, The inlet flow rate of the heat transfer fluid is maintained 1.2 lpm consistently. The heat transfer fluid temperature through the mantle is $70{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The temperatures of 26 points included the ambient temperature are measured at every one minute. The measured data are used to calculate the overall heat transfer coefficient(UA) using the LMTD(Log Mean Temperature Difference) method and it is used on the analysis of the heat transfer characteristics to search for optimum arrangement.

케이블 스포크 휠 지붕 시스템의 비선형 거동 (Nonlinear Behaviors of Cable Spoke Wheel Roof Systems)

  • The objective of this study is to analysis the mechanical characteristics and nonlinear behaviors on the geometric nonlinear behavior of a cable spoke wheel roof system for long span lightweight roof structures. The weight of a cable spoke wheel roof dramatically can reduce and the cable roof system can easily make the required rigidity and shape by the sag ratio and pretension forces. Determining the pretension and initial sag of cable roof system is essential in a design process and the shape of roof is changed by pretension. The nonlinear behavior of flexible cable system has greatly an affect on the sag and pretension. This paper will be carried out analyzing and comparing the tensile forces and deflection of a cable spoke wheel system for the large span retractable roof, and analyzed to deflections and tensile forces by the post height of center hub. The double arrangement of a spoke wheel system with reverse curvature works more effectively as a load bearing system, the pretension can easily increase the structural stiffness. The cable truss system can carry vertical load in up and downward direction, and act effectively as load bearing elements.

Evaluation of Light Intensity and Uniformity of LEDs for Protected Crop Production

  • This study was conducted to evaluate light intensity and uniformity of two SMD (surface-mount device) type LEDs for protected crop production. A low-power (0.1 W) and a high-power (1 W) LEDs were selected and the intensity and uniformity was evaluated at different vertical (height) and horizontal (distance) intervals. When the horizontal interval of the LED bar was fixed, the light intensity increased and the uniformity decreased as the height decreased. At the 30~40 cm heights, 20~30% of the area showed $200{\pm}20{\mu}molm^{-2}s^{-1}$. As the horizontal distance of the LED bars increased, while the uniformity increased as well, the light intensity decreased. At the distances of 6~10 cm, 17~23% of the area showed $200{\pm}20{\mu}molm^{-2}s^{-1}$. When the LED bars were added to the sides, the light intensity and uniformity were generally improved. Results showed that the light intensity and uniformity depended on the height and interval of the LED bulbs; therefore, optimum arrangement for the crops interested should be determined through experiments.

과고감과 표고측정정밀도와의 상관관계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Correlation beween Visual Excess and Height Measuring Precision)

  • 본 논문은 실체시 측정에 있어서 발생하는 과고감과 표고측정의 정밀도와의 상관관계를 실험에 의하여 구명하고자 한 것이다. 일반적으로 과고감이 크면 클수록 표고측정의 정밀도가 높아진다는 사실이 알려져 있을뿐, 정확한 구명이 되어 있지 않다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 과고감에 대한 이론을 재정립하고 이것을 실험에 의하여 구명하고저 하였다. 실험결과에 의하여 과고감과 표고측정의 정밀도는 직접 비예관계가 성립하고 과고감이 클수록 표고측정의 정밀도가 높다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Study on the distribution law of stress deviator below the floor of a goaf

  • In the process of mining closely spaced coal seams, the problem of roadway arrangement in lower coal seams has long been a concern. By means of mechanical model calculation and numerical simulation postprocessing, the distribution of the stress deviator below the floor of a goaf and the evolution of the stress deviator in the vertical and horizontal directions are studied under the influence of horizontal stress. The results of this theoretical study and numerical simulation show that the stress deviator decreases exponentially with increasing depth from the floor below the coal side. With the increase in the horizontal stress coefficient λ, the stress deviator concentration area shifts. The stress deviator is concentrated within 10 m below the goaf and 15 m laterally from the coal side; thus, the magnitude of the surrounding rock stress deviator should be considered when planning the construction of a roadway in this area.

Effect of Supply and Return Locations of a Floor-Supply Cooling System on Thermal Comfort

  • This study numerically investigates thermal comfort of a space cooled by a floor-supply air-conditioning system, in which three different combinations of supply and return locations, one floor-supply/ceiling-return and two floor-supply/floor-return, are treated. A complementary experiment is performed to validate the present numerical analysis, and the prediction agrees favorably with the measured data. In the numerical procedure, a simplified model mimicking the inlet flow through a diffuser is developed for efficient simulations. The calculated results show that the ceiling-return type is far better in terms of thermal comfort than the floor-return ones within the extent of this study, which seems to be caused by effective vertical penetration of the supply air against natural convection. It is also revealed that the arrangement of port locations in the floor-supply/floor-return system has insignificant effect on the cooling performance. For selecting a proper system, other characteristics including the heating performance should be accounted for simultaneously with the present considerations.

자기토커 고장시 반작용휠 모멘텀 덤핑 (Reaction Wheel Momentum Dumping with Magnetic Torquer Failure)

  • 정밀지향위성은 반작용휠로 자세제어를 수행하며, 반작용휠의 모멘텀 덤핑은 3개의 자기토커로 이뤄진다. 본 논문에서는 자기토커 고장 시의 모멘텀 덤핑 영향성에 대해서 살펴본다. 높은 경사각을 가지는 궤도에 위치한 위성이 지구지향자세를 유지하고 있을 때 피치축 방향 자기토커가 고장나면 모멘텀 덤핑이 불가능하다. 하지만 다른 방향의 자기토커가 고장나면 성능 저하만 있을 뿐 모멘텀 덤핑은 여전히 가능하다. 피치축 방향의 자기토커가 고장났을 때도 위성자세변화를 통해서 모멘텀 덤핑을 할 수 있다. 또한 자기토커 배치를 변경하면, 어느 자기토커가 고장나더라도 모멘텀 덤핑이 항상 가능하다.
