An Impact Study on Successful Export Strategies: Global Supply Modes

  • Purpose - Recognizing the importance of small and medium enterprises and venture enterprises for the domestic economy, the purpose of the present study is to select factor termed export modes from among various export success strategies and factors that can help those enterprises secure export competitiveness in the world market to analyze the effects of export modes on the amounts of exports and periods until export after the foundation of those enterprises. Research design, data, and methodology - A structured questionnaire was used as a tool to derive the purpose of the study, and a questionnaire survey was conducted using a mobile survey technique that facilitated the distribution of questionnaire sheets and the collection of results. The main methodology used is crossover analysis, and the regression analysis technique was applied to verify the study results derived, thereby securing the reliability and validity of the final results derived. Results - Small and medium venture enterprises with shorter periods of time until the first export success after establishment adopted direct export modes more frequently, and those enterprises with larger amounts of the first export after establishment adopted direct export modes more frequently. The results of quantitative analysis, indicating that 66.1% of those enterprises with an export amount exceeding one billion won adopted direct export modes, can be said to support the foregoing. The crossover analysis results derived as such were reanalyzed using the PPML regression analysis technique to quantitatively identify that the amounts of the first export of enterprises that adopted direct export modes were larger than those of enterprises that adopted indirect export modes by 120%. Conclusions - The present study implies differentiated values in three aspects. First, the present study investigated and presented the export success factors and strategies of small and medium venture enterprises in a total of 14 countries in the Asian region, European region, North American region, African region, and South American region. Second, it intensively investigated five export modes to identify and verify that they were affecting the export success of small and medium venture enterprises. Third, based on the results of the investigation, the present study presented two marketing implications in the pragmatic aspect.

Conflict Analysis of the Nanjing Yuhuan and A.O Smith Joint Venture Case

  • Purpose -This paper is to study the process of the negative effects of Sino-foreign joint ventures, hoping to find out an effective path in which local enterprises can avoid the risks in the utilization of foreign capital, and ultimately achieve independent innovation. Research design, data, and methodology -The outflow of assets, the loss of local brands and the "technology hollowing-out" problem brought by joint ventures is becoming more and more serious. Based on conflict analysis graph model, this paper takes Yuhuan joint venture as an example to identify the conflict problem in Sino-foreign joint ventures. Results -The results of the stability analysis show that establishing joint venture cannot really realize the introduction of technology because the technology is fully controlled by the foreign part. So when introducing foreign capital, local enterprises should participate in R&D and master the initiative. Conclusions - Local enterprises should pay attention to patent containment and technology blockade of multinationals. Domestic enterprises should try to protect state-owned assets and local brands in Sino-foreign joint ventures. Independent innovation is the most effective strategy for the development of enterprises in China.

피투자국의 부패에 따른 신흥국 다국적기업의 파트너 선택 (The Effect of Corruption in Host Country on Joint Venture Partner Selection of Emerging Multinational Enterprises)

  • Based on the existing OFDI (outward foreign direct investment) literature, this study endeavored to verify how the corruption of host countries affects the partner strategy of EMNEs (emerging multinational enterprises) when EMNEs enter global markets through joint ventures. Following the existing literature, this study classified corruption and partner strategies into two categories, respectively. First, the corruption of host country was divided into grand corruption and petty corruption. Second, EMNEs' joint venture partner strategy was divided into home country partner joint venture and host country (i.e., local) partner joint venture. Our hypothesis suggested that the greater the host country's grand corruption, the more EMNEs would choose the host country partner, while the strong petty corruption leads to the preference of home country partner in host country. The hypotheses were verified with a sample of 890 foreign direct investment cases of Chinese multinational companies from 2005 to 2015. As a result of the study, regardless of the degree of corruption, it was found that they prefer joint ventures with home country partners when EMNEs enter the global market through joint ventures.

사회적기업의 경영 효율성 변화 분석: 경기도 취약계층 고용 중심으로 (Analysis of Change in the Management Efficiency of Social Enterprises: Focus on Enterprises Employing Vulnerable Social Groups in Gyeonggi-do)

  • This study intends to investigate the management efficiency of social enterprises according to types based on the portion of the budget for employing disadvantaged social groups, in the region of Gyeonggi-do. Based on the performance list disclosed at Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency's website, 126 social enterprises certified during a period of five years from 2013 to 2017, 126 enterprises were analyzed by using data envelopment analysis (DEA) models comparing five types of the enterprises. The types was mainly identified by the job security of disadvantaged social groups. As for measurement variables, the input components included average wage, support fund, and the number of non-vulnerable employees and the number of vulnerable employees, sales, and net income were selected as output variables. In conclusion, the efficiency of Gyeonggi-do social enterprises decreased every year, and thus it is urgent to improve their efficiency, and priority should be given to the employment of vulnerable social groups, which both the job opportunity providing-type and the social service providing-type showed the highest performance.

  • 1997년의 외환위기와 2008년 금융위기를 겪으면서 한국의 사회구조는 많은 변화를 가져왔다. 양극화의 문제가 더 심각해졌고, 사회적 계층의 고착화로서 계층간 이동이 어려워졌다. 이러한 문제는 인구절벽의 문제와 더불어 사회 발전의 동력을 잃어버릴 수 있다는 위기감이 높아지는 결과를 가져왔다. 그리고 위기감의 이면에는 기존의 성장위주의 경제정책과 유럽의 여러나라에서 실시한 복지 정책으로는 문제를 해결할 수 없다는 현실이 반영되어 있다. 이에 대한 대안으로 사회적 기업의 등장이 주목을 받고 있다. 사회적 기업은 사회소외 계층에게 일자리를 제공한다는 공익의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 경제적 수익을 만들어내는 것을 추구하는 특성을 가지고 있다. 최근들어서는 혁신적인 방법으로 새로운 사회적 기업의 영역을 넓혀가는 소셜 벤처들의 중요성이 증대하고 있다. 소셜 벤처는 기존의 사업영역이 아닌 새로운 영역을 개척하기 위해 위험을 감수한다는 측면에서 벤처기업의 성격이 있지만 공익달성이라는 사회적 기업의 성격도 동시에 가지고 있는 것이 특징이다. 즉, 창의적이고 도전적인 벤처 정신으로 사회문제의 솔루션을 제공하는 혁신적인 기업 모델인 것이다. 우리나라에서는 한국 사회적 기업 진흥원에서 소셜 벤처를 육성하기 위한 노력을 기울이고 있다. 이러한 사회적 기업, 소셜 벤처 등에 대한 관심과 중요성은 점차 증가하고 있음에도 불구하고 이러한 학문적 연구는 아직까지 부족한 편이다. 따라서 본 연구는 이러한 사회적 관심과 중요성을 반영하고, 선행연구의 부족함을 보완하기 위하여 성공적인 사회적 기업, 소셜 벤처의 사례를 소개하고 분석하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 아울러 본 연구를 통하여 소셜 벤처의 창업에 대한 관심과 연구가 활성화되길 기대한다.

  • After the IMF jurisdiction period, the Korean economy experienced a venture boom. Korean venture enterprises had been recognized that high profitable and high technology capacity based. These ventures also have contributed to national added value tolerably. In particular, Korean information technology (IT) venture companies got away the order of economy concentrated big companies, which were taken the opportunity of new economy to make suggestion of the future courses and to open an e-Korea era. However, IT ventures firms or dotcom enterprises have had difficulties through sinking down their bubbles and slumping technology sector from the first half of the 2000. In consideration of Korea IT venture companies' conditions, Korean government introduce new national vision in order to go ahead of intelligence based society form knowledge based. Korea is planning new investment to meet with the challenge of globalization proactively by national band named u-Korea. As following a step in IT infrastructure, it will give Korean IT ventures new demand creative technologies and services by new technological windows of opportunity. This situation is expected that will become an economic take-off. This paper will look for the way to stimulate Korean IT ventures' competence and present new frontier of IT ventures turnaround.

외식산업에서 프랜차이징을 통한 선발자 우위에 관한 연구 (First Mover Advantage Based on Franchising in the Foodservice Industry)

  • It is widely accepted that there are first mover advantages in various existing industries. However, few studies have been conducted to evaluate the first mover advantages shown in the foodservice industry, whether first movers practically have first mover advantages, and what effects these advantages have on foodservice enterprises. Specifically this study was designed to identify the relationship between first mover advantages and business performance in the foodservice industry. To accomplish this, questionnaires were sent to and collected from selected first movers consisting of 70 foodservice franchised enterprises. SPSS 15.0 was then employed to conduct factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The analyses revealed that the franchised foodservice enterprises could provide several strategies that enabled them to grow quickly and to establish more shops in their market. In addition, having a greater number of shops resulted in greater advantages when compared to their competitors. Moreover, the advantages of first movers had a significant effect on their business performance. Taken together, these findings imply that if foodservice enterprises franchise their business as early as possible, they can more easily preoccupy their market and enjoy more first mover advantages. This study is meaningful and differentiated from existing studies in that it investigated first mover advantages of the foodservice enterprises in the appropriate industry.

수·위탁거래의 전속성이 중소벤처기업의 혁신 투입, 활동 및 성과에 미치는 영향 (The Impact of Exclusive Subcontracting on the Input, Behavior and Output of Innovation in Small Venture Firms: Evidence from Manufacturing Industries of Korea)

  • 본 연구는 수 위탁거래의 전속성이 수탁 중소벤처기업의 R&D투자, R&D인력, 외부 조직과 협력 범위, 특허출원건수, 신제품에 의한 매출 및 누적 매출성장률에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 벤처기업정밀실태조사의 원자료를 이용하여 6,029개 중소벤처기업의 병합된 횡단면 데이터를 분석한 결과 첫째, 대기업 및 1 2차 협력업체와 전속거래를 하는 중소벤처기업의 R&D투자수준은 시장판매 중소벤처기업의 투자수준보다 낮음을 실증하였다. 둘째, 전속거래를 하는 중소벤처기업의 혁신활동, 즉 R&D인력 비율 및 외부 조직과 협력 제휴 범위는 시장판매하는 중소벤처기업에 비해 낮음을 확인하였다. 셋째, 전속거래를 하는 중소벤처기업의 혁신성과, 즉 특허출원건수, 신제품에 의한 매출비중, 누적매출성장률은 시장판매하는 중소벤처기업에 비해 모두 낮음을 검증하였다. 네 번째로 수탁 중소벤처기업이 위탁 대기업의 1 2차 협력업체와 전속거래를 하는 경우가 가치사슬 상위의 대기업과 전속거래를 하는 경우에 비해 혁신 투입, 활동, 성과의 모든 측면에서 낮은 성과를 보이고 있었다. 위탁대기업 또는 1 2차 협력업체와 전속거래여부는 중소벤처기업의 혁신프로세스를 전반적이고 체계적으로 약화시켜서 혁신을 통한 성장을 기대하기 어려운 일종의 시장 실패를 가져오므로 중소벤처기업의 혁신정책은 이를 반영하여 설계될 필요가 있다.

Components and Interactions of Venture Ecosystems: A Focus on Korean Case Studies

  • This study analyzes the establishment of venture companies and the interaction of venture ecosystem components (the core factors of venture ecosystems) with a focus on venture companies, venture capital, and the return market. Government support policies are understood as a catalyst for the venture ecosystem and this study will analyze the implications of government involvement by identifying the role of government policies in the venture ecosystem. According to the results of the empirical analysis with data on confirmed venture businesses by the Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA), policies that provide direct support to venture companies did not have a significant influence on the establishment of new ventures. However, new investments by venture capital show a statistically significant positive effect and signify that the new investment is an important factor in vitalizing the establishment of new venture businesses and that the economic conditions of the return market have a positive effect. The establishment of venture businesses responds to the changes in real and vertical markets with greater resilience compared to government policies. Given the unique nature of the Korean venture ecosystem that responds to the market with greater resilience than government policies, there must be increased efforts to recover the confidence of the capital markets for venture capital in order to promote improved efficiency.

대구지역 벤처기업의 입지와 비즈니스서비스 네트워크 특성 (The Characteristics of Location and Business-Services Networks of Venture Firms in Daegu Region)

  • 본 연구는 대구지역 벤처기업의 입지 및 비즈니스서비스 네트워크 특성을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 대구지역 벤처기업들은 소프트웨어분야에서 연구개발투자와 특허 신기술 분야의 사업 유형이 주를 이루고 있으며, 기업체 근무 경력이 있는 고학력자들에 의해 1990년대 중반 이후 창업된 소규모 기업들이 다양한 성장 전략을 모색하고 있다. 대구지역 벤처기업들은 달서구와 북구의 일부 지역에 집중 분포하는 경향을 보이고 있으며, 업종별로 약간의 차이는 있으나 대체로 연구 대학과의 접근, 정보 획득 용이, 저렴한 용지 이용 등이 주요 입지요인으로 작용하였다. 그리고 이들 기업들은 고객 기업과의 네트워크를 고려하여 이전 여부를 결정한다. 벤처기업과 비즈니스서비스와의 네트워크 특성을 보면, 대구지역 벤처기업들이 이용하는 비즈니스서비스 업체 수는 적은 편이지만, 그 중 정보처리 및 기타 컴퓨터 운영관련업과 전문과학 및 기술서비스업 부문의 서비스 업체 수는 많은 편이다. 비즈니스서비스산업 중 정보처리 및 기타 컴퓨터 운영 관련업, 연구 및 개발업, 사업지원서비스에 대한 이용 빈도가 높고, 전문과학 및 기술서비스업에 대한 이용 빈도는 낮다. 대구지역 벤처기업들이 이용하는 비즈니스서비스업체는 대구지역에 주로 분포하며, 기술 및 지식이 부족하기 때문에 비즈니스서비스를 이용한다.
