  • Exaggerated blood pressure response during exercise has been found to increase the risk of future hypertension, left ventricular hypertrophy, cerebrovascular stroke, and CVD (cardiovascular disease) death. The aim of this study was to evaluate exercise capacity, cardiovascular factors in exaggerated blood pressure response during treadmill exercise testing. For research subjects, 72 subjects (normal blood response: 49 subjects, exaggerated blood response: 23 subjects) who received treadmill exercise test at J General Hospital were selected in this study. Exaggerated SBP (systolic blood pressure) response was defined as an SBP of 210 mmHg or greater during a maximal treadmill exercise test. The group with an exaggerated SBP response showed significantly higher values for RPP (rate pressure product) compared with the group with a normal SBP response. Subjects with METs (metabolic equivalents) had lower exaggerated SBP response than normal SBP response group. Subjects with recovery SBP had delayed exaggerated SBP response than normal SBP response group. Exaggerated SBP response to exercise is negative correlation with METs.

  • A 7-month-old 8.2 kg female Siberian Husky with history of exercise intolerance, delayed growth, and tachypnea was presented to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Kyungpook National University. A holosystolic murmur was identified in cardiac ausculation. In electrocardiography, thoracic radiographs, and ultrasonography, a right axis deviation, enlarged right ventricle, stenotic main pulmonary artery, large ventricular septal defect, marked right ventricle hypertrophy, and overriding aorta with dilation were identified. The color Doppler examination showed the left-to-right shunting of blood via interventricular septal defect and the blood flow streams converging from the right and left ventricles into the aorta. The dog was diagnosed as tetralogy of Fallot. The current state of the dog is well-tolerated without any specific medication.

  • Coronary sinus injuries related to the use of retrograde cardioplegia are rare and have potentially lethal complications. This report describes a case of coronary sinus laceration during retrograde cardioplegia in an old patient with mitral valve regurgitation, endocarditis, and left ventricular hypertrophy, and tells the details of the method of intracardiac repair.

  • Modified coaxial-slot antenna for minimally invasive microwave thermal therapy for liver tumor is studied in this paper. Minimally invasive microwave antenna in medicine are applied for hyperthermia for medical treatment for cancer, cardiac catheter ablation for ventricular arrhythmias treatments, microwave treatment of Benign prostatic hypertrophy, and so on. Microwave hyperthermal ablation for liver tumors is expected for enthusiasts as an alternative to curative surgical resection. Tumors have to heated up to 60 degree C to coagulate .cancer cells but less than 100 degree C to avoid evaporation. Temperature dependence of properties of the tissues should be considered for wide range of treatment. Electrical properties of liver tissue were measured for different temperatures. SAR distribution around the antenna into the liver are simulated using Remcom's XFDTD.

  • A 3-year-old, intact female, Shih-tzu dog was presented with a 15-day history of vomiting, depression, and anorexia. On physical examination, systolic ejection murmurs with precordial thril atthe left heart base were detected. A diagnosis of congenital pulmonic stenosis (PS) was made mainlyfrom the thoracic radiography, electrocardiography, and echocardiography. On complete blood counts andconfirmed that main pulmonary artery was tremendously buldged and electrocardiography was suggestiveof severe right ventricular hypertrophy. Echocardiographic findings revealed the pulmonic valve stenosiscontaining valvular dysplasia and poststenotic dilation. On Doppler echocardiography, ejection velocityof the lesion accounted for 3.38 m/sec, meaning mild velocity through the stenotic area. The dog'sproblem and resulted in death. However, there has been no reliable relation between PS and CRF. Primarymalformation of pulmonic valve was confirmed at necropsy after death.

  • One four-month-old female shepherd mongrel dog with chief complaints of abdominal distension and dysponea was referred. The authors performed physical examination, hematological examination, X-ray examination, exploratory laparotomy, electrocardiography and angiography as antemortem investigation in addition to postmortem examination. This patient revealed complicated congenital cardiac anormaly including patent ductus arteriosus, both atrial and ventricular hypertrophy, distension in the base of the pulmonary artery, pulmonary stenosis, aortic insufficiency, patent foramen ovate and coronary arteriovenous fistula.

  • This is a case report of traumatic arterial injuries with false aneurysm & arterio-venous fistula treated surgically at National Medical Center. 3 cases were A-V fistula and 2 cases only false aneurysm. Physiological disturbance were produced by only arteriovenous fistula; In one case ulceration of mid. 1/3 tibia due to diminished arterial flow and in 2 cases left ventricular hypertrophy, in which cases Bramhan`s sign were positive. Removing out the fistulous lesions and aneurysm, all of the arterial continuities has been reconstructed by means of end to end anastomosis, Dacron graft and vein graft, veins were managed by ligations of both ends in two cases and end to end anostomosis in one case. Immediate post operative results were good, and two cases were followed for 10 months.

  • A 12-month-old, 3.0-kg, male, Scottish fold cat was referred to Irion animal hospital with dyspnea and cardiac murmur. In radiograph, right-sided cardiomegaly and pleural effusion were identified. In echocardiographic examination, abnormal stenotic region was identified in right ventricle and dilation of right atrium and concentric hypertrophy of interventricular septum and the free wall of right ventricle were also identified. In the stenotic region, abnormal muscular band was identified. The turbulent flow was identified in infundibular region of right ventricular outflow tract with color-Doppler examination and high velocity flow (4.0 m/s) was also identified in stenotic region. With these results, double-chambered right ventricle (DCRV) was diagnosed.

  • A castrated, 6-year-old, male Turkish Angora cat with a history of respiratory distress was referred to the hospital. Physical examination revealed a cardiac murmur, and thoracic radiographic findings revealed pleural effusion and cardiomegaly. Echocardiography showed abnormality of the tricuspid and mitral valve, and color-flow Doppler imaging revealed regurgitation between both atrium and ventricle. Based on the echocardiographic examination, tricuspid valve dysplasia concurrent with mitral valve dysplasia was diagnosed. However, the patient died a week after treatment. In necropsy, bilateral atrioventricular valve dysplasia and left ventricular hypertrophy were confirmed. This is the first report to describe a middle age Turkish angora cat having bilateral atrioventricular valve dysplasia which has high mortality and only been reported rarely in cats. This case report also describes its clinical signs, diagnostic imaging findings, treatment and discussions how the patient could live long.
