Distributions of Local Supply and Exhaust Effectiveness according to Room Airflow Patterns

  • A pulsed tracer gas technique is applied to measure the distributions of local mean age and local mean residual-life-time of air in a half-scale experimental chamber, The airflow patterns in the chamber are visualized by a Helium bubble generator for three different exhaust locations. A supply slot is located at the top of a right wall, and an exhaust slot is at either bottom-left (Case 1), bottom-right (Case 2), or top-left (Case 3) location. Results show that the distributions of local mean age and local mean residual-life-time are different from each other, but both of them are closely related to the airflow pattern in the space. Included are discussions on explaining the variations of overall room ventilation effectiveness depending upon airflow rates for three different supply-exhaust configurations.

  • In the present study, ventilation flow rates and pressure rises through a road tunnel are simulated numerically using CFD with the various conditions such as roughness height, swirl angle of jet fan, entrance and exit effect and hub to tip ratio. By using a modified wall function, friction factor can be predicted under 10% of error with respect to the Moody chart for the circular pipe flow and 15%, for the present tunnel. For more precise design, the effects of the swirl angle and hub to tip ratio of jet fan, which is not included in the theoretical equation of pressure rise by jet fan are necessary to be considered.

  • Natural ventilation is achieved by air exchanges through multiple openings due to natural pressure variations inside and outside the greenhouse. Wind is the primary driving force making natural ventilation systems very difficult to design properly because of variations in wind velocity and direction. The optimization of these systems for acceptable climate control requires a thorough knowledge of the airflow rates and patterns as related to weather conditions and greenhouse structural details. 차량터널 오염물질 농도 예측 시뮬레이션 모델 연구 (Simulation Modelling of the Pollutant Concentration in Vehicle Tunnels)

  • The goal of this study is to develop a simulation model of the pollutant dispersion in vehicle tunnels, which can be utilized to optimize the tunnel ventilation system. Contaminant dispersion is modelled using a FDM solution of advective diffusion equation. Taking into consideration the local vehicle emission rates by year, it is user-oriented and its logic is generalized. Therefore, differences in the ventilation scheme can be easily adapted. The results of its application to a urban tunnel show that the relative errors are 1.1~6.8% for the natural velocity, 1.3% for the traffic-induced velocity and 2.9% for the total air quantity. Simulated CO concentrations along the entire tunnel show about 13% of the relative error.

휴대용 가스렌지 연소에 의한 공기오염물질의 발생량 및 실내환경의 필요 환기량 (Source Emission Rate on Air Pollutants from Portable Gas Range and Optimal Ventilation Rate in Indoor Environment)

  • A series of source tests were conducted to characterize emissions of nitrogen oxide(NOx, NO, $NO_2$), carbon mon oxide(CO), carbon dioxide$(CO_2)$ and total VOCs from portable combustion devices in steady-state using well-mixed chamber. Since use of portable gas range is widespread in houses and restaurants in Korea, it is important to characterize the emission of air pollutants and suggest optimum ventilation rate. Ranges of emission rates of air pollutants from portable gas ranges were $NO \;0.551\sim0.939mg/hr,\;NO_2\;0.354\sim1.080mg/hr,\;NO_x\;1.207\sim1.631mg/hr,\;CO\;1.389\sim4.21mg/hr,\;CO_2\;2426.823\sim2973.495mg/hr$, and VOCs $0\sim0.119mg/h$. Mean of personal exposure and indoor environment level of $NO_2$ by combustion of portable gas range were 74.7 ppb and 65.4 ppb, respectively, suggesting persons using portable gas range in houses and restaurants might be highly exposed. Required ventilation rate to control the air pollutants emitted from portable gas range was maximumly $3.131m^3/hr$ on the basis of $NO_2$ indoor air quality standard.

Does the Mean Arterial Pressure Influence Mortality Rate in Patients with Acute Hypoxemic Respiratory Failure under Mechanical Ventilation?

  • Background: In sepsis patients, target mean arterial pressures (MAPs) greater than 65 mm Hg are recommended. However, there is no such recommendation for patients receiving mechanical ventilation. We aimed to evaluate the influence of MAP over the first 24 hours after intensive care unit (ICU) admission on the mortality rate at 60 days post-admission in patients showing acute hypoxemic respiratory failure under mechanical ventilation. Methods: This prospective, multicenter study included 22 ICUs and compared the mortality and clinical outcomes in patients showing acute hypoxemic respiratory failure with high (75-90 mm Hg) and low (65-74.9 mm Hg) MAPs over the first 24 hours of admission to the ICU. Results: Of the 844 patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure, 338 had a sustained MAP of 65-90 mm Hg over the first 24 hours of admission to the ICU. At 60 days, the mortality rates in the low (26.2%) and high (24.5%) MAP groups were not significantly different. The ICU days, hospital days, and 60-day mortality rate did not differ between the groups. Conclusion: In the first 24 hours of ICU admission, MAP range between 65 and 90 mm Hg in patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure under mechanical ventilation may not cause significantly differences in 60-day mortality.

천창을 설치한 토마토 재배 단동 온실의 환기성능 분석 (Analysis on the Ventilation Performance of Single-span Tomato Greenhouse with Roof Windows)

  • 온실의 환기설계 기준 설정 및 단동 플라스틱 온실의 원형 천창 설치 가이드라인 제정을 위한 기초자료를 제공할 목적으로 천창이 설치된 토마토 재배 단동 온실에서 환기실험을 통하여 자연환기 성능을 분석하고, 열평형 모델을 이용하여 온실 재배 토마토의 증발 추정하였다. 직경 60cm의 원형 천창을 지붕의 중앙에 8m 간격으로 설치한 단동온실의 자연환기 성능을 실험한 결과 환기회수는 분당 0.02~0.32회(평균 0.17회 $min^{-1}$)의 범위를 보여 상당히 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 상업용 온실의 권장환기율과 비교하면 6m 간격으로 설치할 경우에는 봄이나 가을철에 필요한 환기량을 충족할 수 있을 것으로 판단되며, 여름철 권장환기를 위해서는 2m 정도의 간격으로 설치한 해야만 가능할 것으로 판단되므로 광투과를 저해하지 않으면서 지붕의 개구면적을 확대할 수 있는 방안을 찾아야 할 것으로 생각된다. 실험에 사용한 단동 온실은 인접 동 간격이 1.2m에 불과한 밀집된 단지 내에 위치하고 있어서 측창 주변의 외부 풍속이 최대 $0.9m{\cdot}s^{-1}$(평균 $0.4m{\cdot}s^{-1}$에 불과하고 풍력에 의한 환기효과를 기대하기가 어려웠다. 환기량과 풍속 및 실내외 온도차와의 관계를 비교 분석해 본 결과 중력환기가 우세함을 확인 할 수 있었다. 본 환기실험 자료를 온실의 환기설계를 위한 열평형모델에 적용하여 증발산계수를 추정해 본 결과 0.39~0.85의 범위(평균 0.62)를 보였고, 다른 연구자들이 제시하는 일반적인 온실의 설계 권장 값과 유사한 경향을 나타냈다. 따라서 토마토 재배 단동 플라스틱 온실의 환기설계에서 증발산계수는 0.6 정도를 사용하면 적당할 것으로 판단된다.

온실의 환기 및 냉방 설계를 위한 열평형 모델의 작용 (Application of Heat Balance Model Design of Ventilating and Cooling Greenhouse)

  • 여름철 고온기에 시설 이용율을 높이고 안정적인 생산을 하기 위해서는 고온 극복 시스템의 도입이 필요하며, 이러한 시스템을 도입하기 위하여는 적정 설비용량의 중요하다. 온실의 고온극복방법을 차광환기시스템, 차광환기 패드시스템, 차광환기 포그시스템으로 설정하고, 각 방법별로 시스템의 설계제원 결정을 위한 열평형식을 구성하였으며 현장 실험을 통하여 적용성을 검토하였다. 환기창 단면 풍속을 1분 간격으로 측정하여 유량으로 환산한 값을 환기량의 실측치로 하고 열평형식을 이용하여 계산한 환기량과 비교한 결과 비교적 잘 일치하는 것으로 나타났다. 열평형 모델의 입력변소중 피복재의 열관류이 1% 증가하면 필요환기량은 0.3% 감소하였고, 태양복사에 대한 증발산비(E)의 값이 1% 증가하면 필요환기량은 1.3%나 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서, E 값의 선택이 매우 중요하며 온실의 환기 및 냉방 설계기준을 설정하기 위해서는 여러 가지 작물의 상태에 따른 E값의 변화를 실측한 자료의 축적을 통해 가이드라인이 제시되어야 할 것으로 판단된다. 온실의 환기 및 냉방 설비 용량 결정을 위한 열평형 모델의 적용성을 검토하기 위하여 6가지의 동일한 조건에 대하여 시뮬레이션한 결과, 필요 공기교환율은 5.1∼7.7%정도, 증발수량은 6.8∼9.3%정도 fan and pad 시스템이 포그시스템에 비하여 큰 것으로 나타났다.

마취된 개의 자발호흡상태에서 일측폐환기 및 양측폐환기가 심순환기 및 호흡기계에 미치는 영향 (Cadiorespiratory effects of isoflurane-anesthetized dogs with closed chest during spontaneous two-lung and one-lung ventilation)

  • One-lung ventilation (OLV) is the isolation and selective ventilation of one lung field. OLV allows the collapse of lung lobes on the side of the thoracic surgical approach to facilitate observation of intrathoracic structures and to achieve lung immobility. OLV be achieved by endotracheal intubation with double lumen tubes or bronchial blockers. In this study, cardiopulmonary consequences of two-lung ventilation (TLV), OLV and Re-TLV (TLV after OLV) were evaluated in 5 dogs. The dogs were anesthetized with mask induction and maintained with isoflurane in oxygen. Tidal volume and respiratory rates were set to maintain end-tidal $CO_2$ at $40{\pm}2mmHg$ during instrumentation. Following instrumentation, the dogs were placed in right lateral recumbency and induced spontaneously respiration state. Effect of TLV on hemodynamic and pulmonary variables were recorded. Then, the left bronchus was obstructed by endotracheal intubation with double lumen endotracheal tube to achieve OLV state and recording was continued. After OLV, double lumen endotracheal tube was extubated, and standard endotracheal tubes was intubated again. In this study, spontaneous OLV caused significant decrease in $PaO_2$, arterial oxygen saturation, mixed-venous oxygen saturation, and increase in $PaCO_2$. Especially, a significant elevation in $PaCO_2$ and respiratory acidosis were remarkable findings. So spontaneous ventilation in OLV affected gas exchange and hemodynamic function.
