  • In the present steady the flow characteristics of turbulent steady flows were experimentally investigated in the exit region of join stream. The experimental was carry out to measure the velocity profiles of air in a square duct. For the measurement of velocity profiles, a hot-wire anemometer was used. The experimental results shows that the velocity profiles do not change behind the fully developed flow region , which is defined as dimensionless axial direction x/Dh=50. In addition, the gradient of shear stress distribution became stable as the flow reached progress downstream.

  • This paper describes a system which enables a real-time measurement of 2-D water flow field. One distinctive feature of our system is that velocity vectors of water flow are obtained from the movement of tracer particles at video rate. In order to enable a fast measurement a real time video processor and two Digital Signal Processor(TMS32OC25) are employed. The real-time video processor extracts contours of tracer particles in order to reduce the amount of image data to be processed. And two DSP(Digital Signal Processor) analyse the correlation of every tracer paticle in the consecutive two images to obtain the velocity distribution of water flow.

  • Simultaneous measurements of velocity and OH distribution were made using particle image velocimetry(PIV) and planar laser-induced fluorescence(PLIF) of OH radical in turbulent hydrogen nonpremixed flames with coaxial air. The OH radical was used as an approximate indicator of chemical reaction zone. The OH layer was correlated well with the stoichiometric velocity, $U_s$, instantaneously and on average. In addition, high strain-rate regions almost coincide with the OH distribution. The residence time in flame surface, calculated from the root-mean-square value of the radial velocity, is proportional to $(x/d_F)^{0.7}$. It is found that the mean value of principal strain rate on the OH layer can be scaled with $(x/d_F)^{-0.7}$ and therefore, the product of the residence time and the mean strain rate remains constant over all axial positions.

  • The objective of this paper is to improve a discomfort caused by the unequal airflow and vertical temperature difference by buoyancy of the supplied hot air in the conventional hot air heating system. In order to the model experiment we manufactured the hot air heater with two air outlet and a model room. We observed the temperature, velocity and airflow distribution and calculated values of PMV and PPD using mean value of central verticality section's air temperature and velocity. We could improve distribution of vertical temperature and velocity at the central section of the model room owing to correlation of hot air of two air outlet.

  • Steady and physiological flows of a Newtonian fluid and blood in the abdominal gorta/iliac artery bifurcation are numerically simulated to understand the etiology and pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Distributions of velocity, pressure, and wall shear stress in the bifurcated arterial vessel model are calculated to investigate the differences of flow characteristics between steady and physiological flows and to compare flow characteristics of blood with that of a Newtonian fluid For the given Reynolds number the flow characteristics of physiological flows for a Newtonian fluid and blood in the bifurcated arterial vessel are quite different from thcse of steady flows. No flow separation or flow reversal in the bifurcated region appears downstream of a stenosis during the acceleration phase. However, during the deceleration phase the flow exhibits flow separation in the outer walls of daugtlter branches, which extends to the entire wall region.

  • Heat transfer performance variation of a condenser caused by non-uniform distribution of air flow was investigated using a numerical simulation method. A heat exchanger used for a outdoor unit of a commercial heat pump system and represented by a numerical model was selected. Non-uniform profile of air-velocity was constructed by measuring the air velocity at various locations of the outdoor unit. Simulation was conducted for various refrigerant circuits and air flow conditions. Simulation results show that the heat transfer capacity was reduced depending on the air-flow rate and the refrigerant circuit configuration. It is also shown that the capacity reduction rate is increased as the average air velocity decreases.

  • In long vertical duct, the aspect of second flame in laminar flame propagating through lycopodium-air mixtures and the behavior of dust particles in neighborhood in front of flame have been examined experimentally. In order to trace the development of second flame to its origin, the velocity and vorticity distribution of dust particles in front of flame were measured by using with the real-time PIV system. The velocity of particles was approximately zero at the central part of flame front and the ahead of the flame leading edge, but maximum near the duct wall. The flame velocity of second flame and the movement of leading flame edge depend mainly on behavior of dust particles by the flow distribution of temperature and pressure.

  • Flow uniformity in aftertreatment system is an important factor in determining uniform catalytic reaction and filtration. In this study, variety types of DOC-DPF system design were analyzed to increase flow uniformity. For this analysis, ANSYS Fluent was used with porous media setup for DOC and DPF. Turbulent flow was modeled by standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model excepting porous media. Uniformity index was utilized to evaluate the flow uniformity quantitatively. Reference design showed low velocity region because two large vortex were generated before baffle. When radius of DOC-DPF system was increased, exhaust pressure acting on the inlet decreases and velocity distribution was shifted to one side. When inlet pipe was set to axial center of DOC-DPF system velocity distribution was symmetric. However, flow was not dissipated until the front end of DOC and showed higher uniformity index. When the volume of DOC was reduced while fixed volume of entire DOC-DPF system and baffle plate is located downstream of the DOC-DPF system, there was improvement in uniformity index.

  • In the present paper we have investigated the Stoneley wave propagation at the interface of two dissimilar homogeneous nonlocal magneto-thermoelastic media under the effect of hall current applied to multi-dual-phase lag heat transfer. The secular equations of Stoneley waves have been derived by using appropriate boundary conditions. The wave characteristics such as attenuation coefficients, temperature distribution and phase velocity are computed and have been depicted graphically. Effect of nonlocal parameter and hall effect are studied on the attenuation coefficient, phase velocity, temperature distribution change, stress component and displacement component. Also, some particular cases have been discussed from the present study.

  • A numerical study was performed to predict the performance of a fin-and-tube condenser. A condenser model was developed and verified by comparing the simulation results with experimental data for a R410A condenser in a residential air-conditioning system. The prediction error was 0.07% and -5.77% for the condenser capacity and pressure drop, respectively. In simulation results, the capacity and pressure drop of the condenser with even air velocity distribution were 0.67% and 12.93% higher than those with uneven distribution of air velocity. It was predicted by the model that the refrigerant distribution at the condenser inlet to the two first passes was not significantly influenced by the air distribution. The simulation results presented that the 1.49% of capacity and 64.6% of pressure drop were reduced by replacing helical microfin tubes with smooth tubes for the condenser.
