  • The average velocity, 330km/sec. of the high velocity stars with respect to the galactic center is obtained from the data used by Fricke on the assumption that the rotational velocity of the Local Standard of Rest is 250km/sec. Comparing this value with the escape velocity, 380km/sec, at the solar neighborhood which is calculated from Mestel's model of the Galaxy, it is shown that most of the high velocity stars are bound to the Galaxy and that their average apogalacticon is about 40 kpc from the galactic center. And the fact that stars with radial velocities larger than 63km/sec are missing in the direction of galactic rotation of L.S.R. is interpreted as the result partly of the random distribution of the directions of motion of the high velocity stars and partly of the observational errors.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the extraction of chromium(Vl) ion in waste water through the liquid surfactant membrane with open-type Perforated Reciprocating-Plate Column. Extraction experiments were conducted to measure the effect of flow characteristics of continuous and dispersed phase and stroke velocity, sodium hydroxide concentraction in internal aqueous phase, sulfuric acid concentraction in outer phase, and residence time distribution and measured extraction velocity. The result of experiments showed that extraction velocity of chromium ion was maximum when stroke velocity was 180 1/min and dispersion phase velocity was 30m11min, continuous phase velocity was 20m1/min. Extraction velocity of chromium ion increased with increasing difference of hydrogen ion concentraction of dispersion and continuous phase and column stage decreased.

  • The purpose of this study is to apply pressurized plenum under floor air conditioning system to office areas to understand characteristics of indoor thermal environment based on forms of diffusers. For doing this, the author conducted experiment of module measurement, and based on the results, analyzed indoor temperature distribution and velocity distribution based on direction of diffusion by using Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD), and estimated the Predicted Mean Vote(PMV) of residents based on forms of diffusers to present the optimal air conditioning of the pressurized plenum under floor air conditioning system in heating. The results of this study are as follows. First, as for forms of diffusers, distributed diffusers rather than conical and grill diffusers were favorable in maintaining $24^{\circ}C$, the established temperature in heating, were active in velocity flowing, and were wide in a radius of diffusion. Second, as for position of pressurizing, the difference between upper and lower temperature was wider in center, lateral, and dispersed pressurizing (in order). As for velocity distribution, the velocity was more increased in lateral, center, and dispersed pressurizing(in order), indicating that dispersed pressurizing maintained uniform thermal environment. Third, as for diffusion direction, mixed direction showed less difference between upper and lower temperature and the difference in velocity between center and lateral part was 0.01m/1, indicating that it maintained uniform thermal environment. Fourth, as for the PMV of residents based on the forms of diffusers, the dispersed type showed(+) values above (0) when applied variably based on the position of diffuser, presenting thermal feeling of "being comfortable" to residents.

  • In this study, hydraulic and numerical model experiments were performed to analyze and improve the effects of flow-rate increase in the intake canal of Boryeong Thermal Power Plants on the flow condition in the circulation water pump (CWP) chambers. Based on the numerical simulation results, when the flow-rate increased in the circulation water intake canal, the velocity in the canal and vertical vorticities in the circulation water pump chambers increased and hence the vortex occurrence potential would be greatly increased. It was found by performing hydraulic model experiments that the velocity distribution near the bottom in the inlet of the circulation water pump chambers was highly non-uniform while the velocity distribution near the water surface was nearly uniform. To reduce the non-uniformity in the velocity distribution, triangular flow deflectors were devised. The installation of the flow deflectors in the inlet of circulation water pump chambers was successfully to reduce velocity non-uniformities and to remove flow reversal problems.

  • The ADCP is an instrument based on Doppler effect, which measures discharge of a river in a short time while crossing it. In this study we aim to make a comparison of the discharge results from a moving-vessel ADCP with those measured by velocity-area method at the same cross-section, and to investigate the characteristics of velocity and discharge data using ADCP. Bathymetry measured by ADCP almost coincides with that by direct depth measurements. Because velocity data from ADCP are essentially instantaneous, individual velocity profiles obtained by ADCP are rather different from time-averaged velocity profiles. But spatially averaged velocity profiles of the individual ADCP data near the comparable verticals have similar vertical velocity pattern with the time-averaged ones. The average velocity profile from repeatedly crossed data is also similar with the time-averaged one. In case of the velocity distribution, individual and spatially averaged data for the sub-width of mid-section method Have good agreement with those by velocity-area method. Discharge data determined by averaging several ADCP measurement transects have $0.1\%{\~}9.3\%$ of difference with those from velocity-area method, and as the number of measurement increases, the relative difference to the velocity-area method decreases.

  • This paper presents the spray atomization characteristics of the high-pressure gasoline injector for the direct-injection gasoline engine. The gasoline sprays of the injector were minted into a pressurized spray chamber with a optical access at various ambient pressures. The atomization characteristics of fuel spray such as mean diameter, mean velocity of droplet were measured by the phase Doppler particle analyzer system. In order to investigate the effect of fuel injection pressure on the quantitative characteristics of spray, the global visualization and experiment of particle measurement in the fuel spray were investigated at 3, 5 and 7 MPa of injection pressure under different ambient pressure in the spray chamber. Based on the results of this work, the fuel injection pressure of fuel injector in gasoline direct-injection engine have influence upon distribution of the mean velocity and droplet size of fuel spray. Also, the influence of injection pressure on the velocity distribution at various measuring location were investigated.

  • In this study, STAR-CD-based CFD techniques was used to analyze velocity distribution and pressure distribution according to the variation of angels at $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ a suction pipe when inlet velocity condition is 1 m/s. SIMPLE maritime law used for analytical algorithm and the results of CFD analysis evaluated by particle image velocimetry (PIV). The results of CFD analysis in this study have revealed that the optimal angle of a suction pipe for a jet pump is $90^{\circ}$ and the PIV test has showed the same results. Therefore, it is thought that when CFD is used to analyze the flow characteristics of a jet pump it would be possible to produce optimal designs of its devices.

  • A ribbed tube consumes more power to transport the fluid by comparing with flat one. After the tangential velocity component occurs, its contact area with the ribbed tube becomes large and it enables the effective energy transportation. The flow characteristics vary according to the geometry of tube rib. This study aims to investigate the flow characteristics of fluids working at Reynolds numbers of 20,000, 40,000, 60,000 and 80,000 with the air at $15^{\circ}C$ in the ribbed test tube high 1mm and wide 8.48mm. As the flow characteristics are included with the states of fully developed hydrodynamical region, axial velocity vector distribution and non-dimensional velocity distribution, they are shown with the physical validity.

  • This paper presents the effect of injection pressure on the atomization characteristics of high-pressure injector in a direct injection gasoline engine both experimentally and numerically. The atomization characteristics such as mean droplet size, mean velocity, and velocity distribution were measured by phase Doppler particle analyzer. The spray development, spray penetration, and global spray structure were visualized using a laser sheet method. In order to investigate the atomization process in more detail, the calculations with the LISA-DDB hybrid model were performed. The results provide the effect of injection pressure on the macroscopic and microscopic behaviors such as spray development, spray penetration, mean droplet size, and mean velocity distribution. It is revealed that the accuracy of prediction is promoted by using the LISA-DDB hybrid breakup model, comparing to the original LISA model or TAB model alone. And the characteristics of the primary and secondary breakups have been investigated by numerical approach.

  • The currents in the rails of an electromagnetic railgun are concentrated in a near surface region. In order to understand this phenomenon, this paper deals with computation of the current distribution related to skin effect in a railgun. An analytical solution is obtained for a twodimensional model. It is found that current concentration at the interface between the rails and the armature is affected by the velocity, length and conductivity of the armature, that skin effect in the rails is affected by the relative velocity between the rails and the armature rather than other factors, and that skin depth in the rails is inversely proportional nearly to the square root of the velocity.
