  • Mobile computing environment is known to be quite difficult to provide user with a stable Quality of Service (QoS) due to vehicle mobility nature. In order to protect the inherent characteristics of wireless network such as low bandwidth and high transmission delay along with the vehicle's mobility, many works are conducted to apply caching and prefetching methods. This paper presents a novel prefetching technique which is based on owner's profile. It is the scheme with the vehicle velocity, the visit frequency and resident time of specific region for vehicle owner's past given period, and the user profile which has owner's personal inclination about a certain place. The proposed scheme shown relatively superior performance in terms of the utilization ratio of prefetched information and the failure ratio of information retrieval than the previous methods.

  • In this paper, the antenna radiation pattern inside the vehicle is presented for observing the change occurring in non-anechoic environment using monopole antenna. The environment for radio communication can be affected by antenna characteristic variation inside the small space existing multi reflection waves. To perform simulation and measurement about antenna radiation pattern, the radio frequency bands for GPS and Wibro services expected to use inside the vehicle is selected. The simulation is based on the ray-tracing method and the radiation pattern is measured inside the vehicle and in free space using monopole antenna having those frequency bands. In accordance with the measurement and simulation results, when two antennas are put inside the vehicle, the omni-directional characteristic of the antenna is maintained but the received power is increased than free space case and the difference between the each case of measurements is increased as the operating frequency is increased.

  • In recent years, the population of children has been declining in Korea. Moreover, the phenomenon of elementary school closures is on the rise, particularly in non-urban and some new city areas, highlighting the need for school buses for children. Despite the mandatory safety features in place, accidents involving school buses for children are on the rise, underscoring the need for improvement in the safety of these vehicles. While various studies have been conducted to enhance the safety of children during their school commute, there has been a notable gap in research analyzing the school commuting environment concerning the vehicle safety of these buses. Hence, this study aims to develop a set of service evaluation criteria for school bus routes, considering vehicle safety through the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). By conducting a survey to gather information on the current status of school buses for children and through questionnaires targeting stakeholders in the school bus sector, the study analyzed requirements and operating conditions. These results were used to select evaluation criteria and structure the hierarchy based on the external and internal aspects of school bus services. Through AHP surveys conducted based on the designed criteria, experts identified safety as the most crucial aspect, with a specific emphasis on Vehicle Safety. Using these developed service evaluation criteria, the study plans to identify service-vulnerable routes through a real route analysis and recommend improvements, with the ultimate goal of creating a safe and convenient school commuting environment for children.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of MAC (Media Access Control) layer in DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication). It will be widely applied for ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) services; for example ETC (Electric Toll Control), BIS (Bus Information System) etc., needed to small packet size. But If ITS service is evolving to advance ITS, ADIS (Advanced Driver Information Systems) and AVHS (Advanced Vehicle Highway System) etc, be needed larger packet size. In the future, it may offer more various services such as traffic information, collection, and multimedia information. There are two kind of physical media, IR(Infrared) and RF(Radio frequency). And each system has their own protocol that is adaptive in special characteristics of physical medium for using efficiently limited radio resources. In this paper, we analyze the special characteristics of each system. And we study practical use of some related services expected to be used in the near future, by analyzing the transmission efficiency in each DSRC system.

  • Recently, Vehicular Networks is being developed to provide variety of services such as email, ftp, and video streaming services. As IP mobility technology, Proxy Mobile IP is developed to provide these services for a VANET user. By adopting Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6), Vehicular Networks can support IP mobility, but it may cause a proxy binding update (PBU) message when a vehicle moves from one MAG to another. In addition, if the density of vehicles on the road is high, significant PBU messages are generated. In this paper, we propose bulk PBU message to reduce signaling overhead by those PBU messages when a bunch of vehicles move from one MAG to another. When the vehicles move from one MAG to another, it generates only one bulk PBU message to update those vehicle's location. Through numerical and simulation results, we show that our proposed bulk registration reduces signaling overhead when the density of vehicles and the speed of them are high.

  • The video streaming technologies are used in diverse areas including aerospace. UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is still being developed so that we are able to use the UAV not only in military areas but also in civil areas. Remotely monitoring and observing a certain area is possible via using video streaming service based on the UAV nowadays. However, UAV is vulnerable to weather conditions, plane's weight, battery capacity and so on, which makes many restrictions of flight time and video streaming services. In order to prolong the video streaming services, we can use a number of UAVs, fly them one by one, and switch video streaming channels. In the paper, we propose the methods how to interchange UAVs' missions and their video streaming channels to provide seamless video stream services.

  • The railway is a public transportation system that provides large-scale passenger transportation and service, whose reliability and safety is the top priority. The wiring of railway vehicles is classified into train control lines (train lines) and communication lines. The train lines are used for input / output signals related to vehicle driving and safety functions, and the communication lines are used for the input / output signals for passenger services such as broadcasting. In order to measure the reliability of railway vehicles, a train line is applied to the input / output interface of the control signals between the electric control devices in the vehicle, and there are many electromechanical devices such as relays and contactors for the control logic. In fact, since the vehicle control circuit is composed of several thousand contacts, it is difficult to check for errors such as contact failure, and it is impossible to check the real-time status, so a lot of manpower and time is required for regular maintenance. Therefore, we analyze the current state of the train line design of the electric equipment used for driving and services in domestic railway cars and propose three wiring reduction methods to improve it. Based on the analysis of domestic electric vehicles, it was confirmed that the wiring reduction effect is 35% or more.

  • It becomes easy and generalized to track the cellular phone users and vehicles according to the Progress of wireless telecommunication, the spread of network, and the miniaturization of terminal devices. It has been constantly studied to provide location based services to furnish suitable services depending on the positions of customers. Various vehicle tracking and management systems are developed to utilize and manage the vehicle locations to relieve the congestion of traffic and to smooth transportation. However the designed previous work can not evaluated in real world, because most of previous work is only designed not implemented and it is developed for simple model to handle a point, a line, a polygon object. Therefore, we design a moving object query language and implement a vehicle management system to search the positions and trajectories of vehicles and to analyze the cost of transportation effectively. The designed query language based on a SQL can be utilized to get the trajectories between two specific places, the departure time, the arrival time of vehicles, and the predicted uncertainty positions, etc. In addition, the proposed moving object query language for managing transportation vehicles is useful to analyze the cost of trajectories in a variety of moving object management system containing transportation.
