In many papers, the powertrain system generally has been madeled as one-dimensional torque model. One-dimensional powertrain model may calculate the torque correctly but it does not consider the non-rotational degrees-of-freedom of the powertrain components and the interaction of these degrees-of-freedom with the vehicle body frame and suspension. To consider the non-rotational degrees of freedom, the differential is modeled as a three-dimensional rigid body in this paper. A constant velocity joint is newly formulated and a relative constraint is also formulated to model the motion transfer due to gear ratio of the differential. Implementing the proposed powertrain system in the multibody model, more detail dynamic responses can be obtained. Obtained outputs such as reaction torques on the constant velocity joint and reaction forces on the rack can be useful data in the design of a powertrain.
To analyzed ride quality and to predict durability in vehicle dynamics, it is essential to describe a road surface profile precisely. This paper presents a technique to generate road surface profiles in a spatial domain by using a power spectral density function. A single track power spectral density function is proposed to describe a road surface profile, which is also applicable for multi-track vehicle response analysis, The derived road surfaces are compared to ISO(International Organization for Standardization) standards and classifications, proposed by the MIRA(Motor Industry Research Association). The methodology in this paper is also proposed to generate road roughness description with a limited external data. A small amount of external curve data is combined with an internal PSD function to generate road surface roughness in a spatial domain.
A simplified 3D dynamic model of tracked vehicle crawling on cohesive soft soil is investigated. The vehicle is assumed as rigid body with 6-dof. Cohesive soft soil is modeled through relations: pressure to sinkage, shear displacement to shear stress, and shear to dynamic sinkage. Equations of motion of vehicle are derived with respect to the body-fixed coordinates. In order to investigate 3D transient dynamics of tracked vehicle, Newmark's method is employed based on incremental-iterative algorithm. 3D dynamic simulations are conducted for a tracked vehicle model and steering performance is investigated.
The validity of simulation has been well-established for decades in areas such as computer and communication system. Recently, the technique has become entrenched in specific areas such as transportation and traffic forecasting. Several methods have been proposed for investigating complex traffic flows. However, the dynamics of vehicles and their driver's characteristics, even though it is known that they are important factors for any traffic flow analysis, have never been considered sufficiently. In this paper, the traffic simulation using a multi-agent approach with considering vehicle dynamics is proposed. The multi-agent system is constructed with the traffic environment and the agents of vehicle and driver. The traffic environment consists of multi-lane roads, nodes, virtual lanes, and signals. To ensure the fast calculation, the agents are performed on the based of the rules to regulate their behaviors. The communication frameworks are proposed for the agents to share the information of vehicles' velocity and position. The model of a driver agent which controls a vehicle agent is described in the companion paper. The vehicle model contains the nonlinear subcomponents of engine, torque converter, automatic transmission, and wheels. The simulation has proceeded for an interrupted and uninterrupted flow model. The result has shown that the driver agent performs human-like behavior ranging from slow and careful to fast and aggressive driving behavior, and that the change of the traffic state is closely related with the distance and the signal delay between intersections. The system developed shows the effectiveness and the practical usefulness of the traffic simulation.
A differential case equipped with LSD(limited slip differential) has several advantages over a normal type for rear wheel drive vehicles. Specially, the torque distribution can be done between left and right drive wheel in the state of limited slip differential. Also although LSD types are very various according to operating type, medium and torque distribution, a multi-clutch type is generally applied to rear wheel drive vehicles. So, this study presents the analysis of design parameters for development of a friction plate for multi-clutch type LSD using vehicle road test, the simulation of analytical model and the development of vehicle dynamics model by a benchmark product. According to this investigation, the design parameters which are pre-load of coil spring, friction plate and contact area quantity, friction coefficient and TBR(torque bias ratio) for a friction plate are derived from experiment and simulation and consequently, vehicle dynamics model has been constructed for the development of friction plate for multi-clutch type LSD.
This paper addresses the numerical study on the dynamics of the High-speed EMU to enhance the ride quality. The 17 and 34 degrees-of-freedom (DOF) dynamic models for a single railway vehicle are proposed, and its vibrational characteristics according to the nonuniform rail profile are analyzed via Matlab. The validity of the proposed 34-DOF model are verified by comparing its dynamic characteristics and those from ADAMS/Rail. In addition, the critical dynamic parameters are identified by the parametric analysis, and rough design variables to reduce the vibration level of the railway vehicle are proposed. Finally, the frequency analysis - FFT - are conducted to extract the resonant frequencies, which have a significant influence on the determination of the critical speed of the railway vehicle. It is demonstrated that the results from the Matlab-based numerical analysis of the 34-DOF dynamic model are similar to those from ADAMS/Rail.
This paper is a numerical analysis study for evaluating the energy efficiency of electric vehicles. Currently, the methods for testing and evaluating the energy consumption efficiency of electric vehicles have limitations such as resources and time. Therefore, there is a need for research on developing models to predict the energy consumption efficiency of electric vehicles. In this study, a numerical analysis research is conducted to predict the energy efficiency of electric vehicles using a vehicle dynamics numerical analysis model. To validate the accuracy of the simulation model, it is compared the results of dynamometer tests with the simulation results and used the Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) protocol to acquire internal data from the electric vehicle. It is ensured the reliability of the simulation model by comparing data such as motor speed, battery voltage, current, state of charge (SOC), regenerative braking power generation, and total driving distance of the test vehicle with dynamometer test data and simulation model results.
Transmission of a tracked vehicle designed for multiple functions such as steering, gear-shifting, and braking is a core component of heavy vehicle to which the power is transferred based on combined technology of various gears, bearing, and fluid machineries. Robustness and durability of transmission, however, have been issued due to a large number of driving units and sub-components inside its body. The bevel gears are major components for the transmission of power in a transmission. Increasing the tooth surface roughness and chamfering of the bevel gears, especially, we aim to improve the quality of transmission. In this study, design structural evaluation is conducted on bevel gears of transmission for tracked vehicle using the ROMAX-DESIGNER program. By doing so, design safety of the bevel gears has been evaluated based on the gear strength theory of ANSI/AGMA 2003 B97 standard.
In this paper, the model-matching control in the longitudinal autonomous driving system is investigated by vehicle dynamics simulation, which contains nonlinear subcomponents and simplified subcomponents. The design of the robust model-matching controller is performed by the characteristics of the 2 degrees of freedom controller, which is composed of the feedforward compensator and the feedback compensator. It makes the characteristics of tractive and brake force to be equivalent to the specific transfer function, which is suggested as the reference model. Mathematical models of vehicle dynamic analysis including the model-matching control are constructed for computer simulation. Then, simple examples on open-loop simulation without any controller and closed loop simulation with the model-matching controller are applied to check the validity of the robust controller. As the practical example, the autonomous driving system in the longitudinal direction is adopted. It is proved that the model-matching control is effective and adequate to the disturbances and the perturbations, which are shown in the responses of the change of a vehicle mass and a road gradient.
