For automated guidance control of a magnetically guided-all wheel steered vehicle, it is necessary to have information about position and orientation of the vehicle, and deviations from the reference path in real time. The magnet reference system considered here consists of three magnetic sensors mounted on the vehicle and magnetic markers, which are non-equidistantly buried in the road. This paper presents an observer to estimate such position and orientation at the center of gravity of the vehicle. This algorithm is based on the simple kinematic model of vehicle and uses the data of wheel velocity, steering angle, and the discrete measurements of marker positions. Since this algorithm requires the exact values of initial states, we have also proposed an algorithm of determining the initial position and orientation from the 16 successive magnet pole data, which are given by the magnetic measurement system(MMS). The proposed algorithm is capable of continuing to estimate for the case that the magnetic sensor fail to measure up to three successive magnets. It is shown through experimental data that the proposed algorithm works well within permissible error range.
The vehicle attitude and sideslip is critical information to control the vehicle to prevent from unintended motion. Many of estimation strategy use bicycle model or IMU integration, but both of them have limits on application. The main purpose of this paper is development of vehicle orientation estimator which is robust to various vehicle state and road shape. The suggested estimator use 3-axis magnetometer, yaw rate sensor and lateral acceleration sensor to estimate three Euler angles of vehicle. The estimator is composed of two individual observers: First, comparing the known magnetic field and gravity with measured value, the TRIAD algorithm calculates optimal rotational matrix when vehicle is in static or quasi-static condition. Next, merging 3-axis magnetometer with inertial sensors, the extended Kalman filter is used to estimate vehicle orientation under dynamic condition. A validation through simulation tools, Carsim and Simulink, is performed and the results show the feasibility of the suggested estimation method.

To be satisfied with complex load condition of electric vehicle, fuzzy logic control (FLC) is applied to improve speed response and system robust performance of induction traction machine based on indirect rotor field orientation control. The proposed propulsion system consists of two induction motors (IM) that ensure the drive of the two back driving wheels of lightweight electric vehicle by means the vehicle used for passenger transportation. The electronic differential system ensures the robust control of the vehicle behavior on the road. It also allows controlling, independently, every driving wheel to turn at different speeds in any curve. Our electric vehicle fuzzy inference system control's simulated in Matlab SIMULINK environment, the results obtained present the efficiency and the robustness of the proposed control with good performances compared with the traditional PI speed control, the FLC induction traction machine presents not only good steady characteristic, but with no overshoot too.
Hybrid locomotive UGV with actively articulated legs along with wheeled ends has high traversability to travel over rough terrain. The behavior control method was usually adapted for the controlling of the suspension configuration which determines the traversability of the UGV. In this study, we are proposing a method of configuration planning of the legs without any detail geometric data about the terrain. The terrain was estimated by the traces of each wheel and the leg configurations for the desired posture of the vehicle were set up against the constraints of the terrain. Also, an optimal leg configuration was calculated based on the quasi-static stability and power consumption, and plans for the leg behavior were made. Validity of the proposed method was checked by simulations using some off-the-shelf programs, and showed that the orientation control without geometric features of terrains and simplification of the behavior planning for obstacle negotiation were possible.
In most case of previous research about vehicle control system, external error occurred by unexpected environmental situation was hardly considered. However, in this paper, to have more accurate position control of differential derive vehicle, we separate the error as an internal error and external error. To calculate the vehicle position in real time, we introduced the Dead-Reckoning algorithms and the simulation result show that the proposed internal and external error control system has fast and accurate position tracking with remarkable diminishment of orientation error. The results reported here can easily be extended to the control of similar type vehicle.

This paper describes a navigation system for an autonomous vehicle in outdoor environments. The vehicle uses vision system to detect coordinates and DGPS information to determine the vehicles initial position and orientation. The vision system detects coordinates in the environment by referring to an environment model. As the vehicle moves, it estimates its position by conventional DGPS data, and matches up the coordinates with the environment model in order to reduce the error in the vehicles position estimate. The vehicles initial position and orientation are calculated from the coordinate values of the first and second locations, which are acquired by DGPS. Subsequent orientations and positions are derived. Experimental results in real environments have showed the effectiveness of our proposed navigation methods and real-time methods.
This paper focuses on a development of a sensor system measuring locations of a vehicle to localize a mobile robot while it tracks on the track (location sensor) . Also it focuses on a system configuration identifying the vehicle's orientation and distance from the object while it is stationary at certain station (position sensor) . As for the location sensor it consists of a set of sensors with a combined guiding and counting sensor, and an address-coded sensor to localize the vehicle while moving on the rail. For the position sensor a PSD (Position Sensitive Device) sensor with photo-switches sensor to measure the offset and orientation of the vehicle at each station is introduced. Both sensor systems are integrated with a microprocessor as a data relay to the main computer controlling the vehicle. The location sensor system is developed and its performance for a mobile robot is verified by experiments. The position measuring system is proposed and is robust to the environmental variation. Moreover, the two kinds of sensor systems guarantee a low cost application and high reliability.
In this paper, we propose an adaptive backstepping controller to control the exact position and orientation of a remotely operated underwater vehicle with parametric model uncertainty. To further improve the angular velocity control precision of each thruster, a phase locked loop (PLL) controller has been added to the backstepping controller. A comparison of two backstepping controllers with and without the PLL control loop has been performed using simulations and experiments. The test results showed that the tracking performance could be improved by using the PLL control loop in the proposed adaptive backstepping controller.
In this paper, analysis of magnetic marker for autonomous vehicle guidance system using 3-axis magnetic sensor propose. Position sensing is an important an estimation system of vehicle position and orientation on magnetic lane, which is a parameter of the steering controller for automated lane following is described. To verify that the magnetic dipole model could be applied to a magnetic unit paved in roadway, the analysis of the data 3-axis magnetic field measured experimentally.
