Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle is driven by the engine, the primary traction motor, and the secondary auxiliary motor generating the electric power for battery charging. Secondary auxiliary motor should be connected to the engine or separated from the engine by the clutch system. This paper presents the position controller of the BLDC motor for the clutch system of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. The BLDC motor can be applied to the clutch system in spite of it's low accuracy of the position control due to high gear ratio between the clutch and the motor. Since the attachment and the detachment between the motor and the engine should be carried out within 0.3 seconds, the position controller with fast acceleration and deceleration is implemented. For the torque control with braking operation for the BLDC motor, the modified bipolar PWM method with low current ripple compared to the conventional unipolar PWM is presented. The position control performance of the BLDC motor for the clutch system is verified through the simulation and experiments.
We deal with the headway which effects on the performance of the PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) system and the system safety. The headway, time between passage of one vehicle and the next, is one of the important factors to assess the line capacity, which has a cue to solve the problem of the congestion in public transportation. To decide the headway there are many important factors, especially such as the failure vehicle deceleration rate, the following simple analytical equation can be made to assess the relation between the line speed and the minimum headway. In this paper we employ a numerical analysis method using a simple analytical equations for the evaluation of the minimum headway and show simple simulation results.
It has been applied several ways in order to prevent traffic accidents and speed management on the road which is one of very important factors to prevent accidents. In this study, it is analyzed whether the facility such as the flashing and crosswalk, speed cameras and intermittent warning signs affect on a driving deceleration or not. It has been shown that the flashing and crosswalk and speed cameras except intermittent warning signs play a role of reducing the driving speed. The result showed that these traffic safety facilities help to improve the average speed as well as velocity distribution which was derived by the speed deviation even if there were the difference between facilities. Speed limit display does not affect the deceleration of the driver. Therefore, it was founded in this research that there were the driving speed reduction effect due to the facilities on the road. In order to control the driving speed on the road, it is necessary to install facilities with appropriate location and spacing on the road. In addition, place that turns out suppressed speeding through speed management also are required adequate facilities such as speed cameras.
Several metrics have been used in crash discrimination algorithms in order to have timely air bag deployment during all frontal crash modes. However, it is still challengine to have timely air bag deployment especially during the oblique, the pole and the underride crash mode. Therefore, in this paper a new crash discrimination algorithm was proposed, using the absolute value of the deceleration change multiplied by the velocity change as a metric, and processing the metric as a function of the velocity change. The new algorithm was applied for all frontal crash modes of a minivan and a sports utility vehicle, and it resulted in timely air bag deployment for all frontal crash modes including the oblique, the pole and the underride crash mode. Moreover, it was proposed that an accelerometer be installed at each side of the rails, rockers or pillars to assess the crash severity of each side and to deploy the frontal air bags at different time especially during an asymmetric crash such as an oblique and an offset crash. As an example, the deceleration pulses measured at the left and right B-pillar·rocker locations were processed through the new algorithm, and faster time-to-fires were obtained for the air bag at the struck side for the air bag at the other side.
Currently various safety tests are being performed in many countries with growing interest in vehicle safety. However the vehicles which have good safety performance in these tests could not secure the good performance in real car to car accident. So new test protocol using progressive deformable barrier (PDB) was proposed by EEVC in Europe, NHTSA in USA and some vehicle manufacturers, etc. The target of PDB test is to control partner protection in addition to self-protection on the same test. The proposal is to update current ECE R.94 frontal ODB test. So barrier, impact speed, overlap are changed to avoid bottoming-out in the test configuration. In this paper 3 different tests (R.94, EuroNCAP and PDB test) were carried out using current production vehicles with same structure. The results of these tests were compared to understand PDB test. As a result PDB test shows the highest vehicle deceleration and dummy injury because PDB offers a progressive increase in stiffness in depth and height. However vehicle intrusion was affected with rather test velocity than stiffness of deformable barrier. PDB deformation data is used for partner protection assessment using PDB software and it shows that the test vehicle is rather not aggressive.
In this study, the driving performances of elderly who's age is over 65 were evaluated. The driving simulation was conducted using a compact driving simulation (CDS) and the simulation scenarios were developed from actual roads by replicating geometry of skewed intersection and traffic control devices located in Jungnang-gu, Seoul, Korea. 27 elderly drivers and 10 non-elderly drivers were recruited and participated on the virtual turning right and going straight driving experiment of CDS. Virtual driving data of driving time, speed, distance, acceleration and deceleration speeds, brake power, and steering wheel rotation angle were recorded and analyzed. Generally, elderly driver took more times to pass through the skewed intersection road and showed lower approaching speed as much as 40% and 25% in case of turning right and going straight scenarios respectively. The speed deviation at skewed intersection road between elderly and non-elderly driver is expected to cause frequent lane changes and overtaking.
The development of fuel cell hybrid power system, as a next generation power system for solving the global warming, has been being made actively progress around passenger vehicles. Also, in case of railway vehicles in unelectrified railway line, the adoption of fuel cell hybrid power system is being studied around well-known manufacturers. This paper introduces both the configuration and the control strategy of fuel cell hybrid power system in order to apply to a light electronic railway vehicle having a repeated driving pattern of acceleration, coasting and deceleration and provides simulation results to evaluate their validity.
