This study analyzed the influence of the environmental factor of each vegetation type in an urban, mountainous park (Tangeumdae Park in Chungju) on air ion. The measuring points were divided according to the tree species, diameter at breast height, crown density, and layered structure, and the meteorological factors and the air ion were measured. The results of the measurement showed the average generation of positive ions of $610.90{\pm}50.27ea/cm^3$, the average generation of negative ions of $723.58{\pm}64.25ea/cm^3$, and the air ion index of $1.19{\pm}0.10$. The results of the analysis, according to the vegetation type, are as follows. Firstly, the air ion varied according to the species, the chest diameter at breast height, and the layered structure, and was analyzed to be statistically significant. Secondly, the air ion and the vegetation type showed a positive correlation with the species, diameter at breast height, crown density, and layered structure. The cation showed a negative correlation with the species, diameter at breast height, and the crown density, and the anion showed a positive correlation with the species, the diameter at breast height, crown density, and layered structure. Thirdly, the ion index in ridges had a higher correlation with the vegetation type than the meteorological factors. In detail, the correlation was higher in the species > layered structure > crown density > diameter at breast height. This study had the limitation of evaluating air ions in the ridge. Therefore, future studies on air ion should consider both terrain structure and vegetation type and analyze the seasonal changes and comparison.

For more accurate height/depth control of the agricultural implements , the soil surface as a reference position should be measured as accurate as possible. A new measurement system using microwave was developed to detect the true soil surface even under plant and/or vegetation. Two-frequency continuous-wave radar was used as the measurement system. It could estimate the distance to the target by measuring the phase difference between two different frequencies continuous-waves which reflected on the target surface. The system performance was evaluated on the barely field where the average height of barley was 91.5 cm. The experimental results showed that the system performance was not affected by the existence of barely. The maximum measurement errors were 8.91 com and 8.44cm for two different experimental plots.
This study was performed to investigate relation between riparian vegetation and environmental factor and to predict riparian vegetation succession in Nakdong river, which is typical sand river in Korea Peninsula. We searched 5 natural levee and installed 84 quadrats in Nakdong river near by Andong city. Also, We analyzed flora, vegetation cover degree, topography, soil moisture, organic content, pH, electrical conductivity and soil texture. According to the result of CCA (canonical correspondence analysis), which considered both investigated vegetation data and environmental factor, vegetation were divided down three groups, and each group was difference by height above ordinary water level, organic content and sand. In addition, the most powerful factor was indicated the height above ordinary water level.

In this study, the two-way coupled analysis method of LES-WASS-2D and DEM has been newly developed to review numerically wave attenuation due to behavior of vegetation zone could not yet applied in numerical analysis. To verify the applicability, two-way coupled analysis method is analyzed comparing to the experimental result about characteristics of wave attenuation using vegetation. Numerically analyzed behavior and characteristics of wave attenuation according to height length, distribution length, spacing of vegetation zone and incident wave conditions. It was confirmed to be effective of 3~4% wave attenuation were increased height length and distribution length, narrowed spacing of vegetation. Finally, this study is applicable to behavior and wave attenuation prediction of vegetation zone.

This study investigated 62 nested quadrat plots of Jinaksan to identify community classification and changes of the vegetation by using the phytosocial method and analyzed importance values. Vegetation types were classified into 8 communities: Quercus mongolica community, Q. variableis community, Q. aliena community, Pinus densiflora, Q. acutissima, Zelkova serrata, Carpinis laxiflora, and C. tschonoskii. The significance value was highest in Q. mongolica (62.75) followed by P. densiflora (55.16), Q. variabilis community (25.03), Z. serrata (22.17), Q. aliena (18.30), Prunus serrulata var. pubescens (16.86), C. laxiflora (13.25), Q. acutissima (10.72), C. tschonoskii (10.08), Q. serrata (8.02), Fraxinus sieboldiana (6.93), Acer pseudosieboldianum (6.73), and Styrax obassis (5.73). Quercus mongolica displayed a stable distribution pattern, presenting a reverse J-shaped curve from the diameter at breast height (DBH) analysis, and it was judged that current state would be maintained for a certain period. In addition, P. densiflora is expected to dominate for the time being and Quercus species are expected to gradually decrease.

The leaf area index (LAI) is a major factor explaining the photosynthesis of vegetation, evapotranspiration, and energy exchange between the earth surface and atmosphere, and there have been studies on accurate and applicable LAI estimation methods. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the actual LAI data, UAV image-based vegetation index, canopy height and satellite image (Sentinel-2) LAI and to present an effective LAI estimation method using UAV. As a result, among the six vegetation indices in this study, NDRE ($R^2=0.496$) and CIRE ($R^2=0.443$), which contained red-edge band, showed a high correlation. The application of the canopy height model data to the vegetation index improved the explanatory power of the LAI. In addition, in the case of NDVI, the saturation problem caused by the linear relationship with LAI was addressed. In this study, it was possible to estimate high resolution LAI using UAV images. It is expected that the applicability of such data will be improved if calibration and correction steps are carried out for various vegetation and seasonal images.

In this paper, we propose a system termed ForestLi that can accurately estimate the diameter at breast height (DBH) and tree height using LiDAR point cloud data. The ForestLi system processes LiDAR point cloud data through the following steps: downsampling, outlier removal, ground segmentation, ground height normalization, stem extraction, individual tree segmentation, and DBH and tree height measurement. A commercial system, such as LiDAR360, for processing LiDAR point cloud data requires the user to directly correct errors in lower vegetation and individual tree segmentation. In contrast, the ForestLi system can automatically remove LiDAR point cloud data that correspond to lower vegetation in order to improve the accuracy of estimating DBH and tree height. This enables the ForestLi system to reduce the total processing time as well as enhance the accuracy of accuracy of measuring DBH and tree height compared to the LiDAR360 system. We performed an empirical study to confirm that the ForestLi system outperforms the LiDAR360 system in terms of the total processing time and accuracy of measuring DBH and tree height.
In this study, the 1D apparent shear stress model for vegetated compound open-channel flows was suggested. To consider the effect of momentum exchange between main channel and floodplain, the eddy viscosity concept was used in the present model. The interfacial eddy viscosity in the interface of main channel and floodplain was determined from the 3D Reynolds stress model. The evaluated interfacial eddy viscosity appears to be good agreement with those proposed previously. To investigate the effect of interfacial eddy viscosity, sensitive analysis was carried out. the computed backwater profiles are nearly identical with respect to the value of the interfacial eddy viscosity. However, the discharge conveyed by the floodplain changes is proportional to the interfacial eddy viscosity. Finally, the changes of the interfacial eddy viscosity due to the vegetation density and vegetation height were examined. The computed results of interfacial eddy viscosity are in proportion to the vegetation density and vegetation height, and the interfacial eddy viscosity has a range of $(2-5)\;{\times}\;10^{-4}$.

The vegetation such as grass, shrub, tree has been used to control the erosion and stabilize the slope for a long time. But the effects of vegetation on slope area is usually neglected in traditional stability analyses. There are many errors in slope analyses in thin soil mantles. Therefore the effects of vegetation is an important factor. But it is difficult and complex to represent the vegetation influence quantitatively in stability analysis. In this study, authors choose the landslide region at the Kum sung dong Kum-jung ku Pusan as a model area. Authors analyzed the degree of slope with the aerial photo interpretation and DTM data extracted from the topographic map, and the relationship of D.B.H. (diameter of breast height), height, and age of tree in field investigation data. Finally authors know the fact that landslide take place approximately 10 or 20 years later in arbitrary afforestable area where the degree of slope is 27. The prevention effect must be considered in the control of vegetation.

Research was initiated to investigate vegetation characteristics of native ('Pureundle' and 'Sewon') and introduced ('Brilliant' and 'Midnight') Kentucky bluegrass (KB, Poa pratensis L.) varieties by soil-seed applying system on a cut-slope in May 17, 2008. There were no statistic differences observed in soil hardness and soil moisture content while significant differences were observed in surface coverage rate, height and disease occurrence in native and introduced KB varieties. The introduced 'Brilliant' KB was highest in the surface coverage rate from the early period of seeding to August 11, 2008. The surface coverage rate of introduced varieties were high when compared to native varieties in their early growth stage. But native varieties reached to equal surface coverage rate with the introduced varieties when three months after seeding. The height of 'Pureundle' and 'Brilliant' KBs were high compared with Midnight and Sewon KBs. 'Pureundle' and 'Brilliant' KBs were damaged by disease whereas there were no disease occurrence in 'Midnight' and 'Sewon' KBs. Probably, the disease occurrence was close related with the height of KBs not with native and introduced KB varieties. These results indicate that the growth of KB on a cut-slope are statistically affected by varieties in early growth stage of this experiment but reach equal rate between native and introduced KB varieties in three months after seeding. This growth characteristics implies the huge potential of native KB varieties seeding for cut-slope vegetation. Considering that native KB varieties are adapted to a environment and have no risk of causing disturbance to the ecosystem compared to the introduced KB varieties, the use of them as native varieties for a cut-slope vegetation can be increased.
