Disaster management using VHR (very high resolution) satellite images supports rapid damage assessment and also offers detailed information of the damages. However, the acquisition of pre-event VHR satellite images is usually limited due to the long revisit time of VHR satellites. The absence of the pre-event data can reduce the accuracy of damage assessment since it is difficult to distinguish the changed region from the unchanged region with only post-event data. To address this limitation, in this study, we conducted the wildfire-induced change detection on national wildfire cases using post-fire VHR satellite images and GIS (Geographic Information System) data. For GIS data, a national land cover map was selected to simulate the pre-fire NIR (near-infrared) images using the spatial information of the pre-fire land cover. Then, the simulated pre-fire NIR images were used to analyze bi-temporal NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) correlation for unsupervised change detection. The whole process of change detection was performed on a superpixel basis considering the advantages of superpixels being able to reduce the complexity of the image processing while preserving the details of the VHR images. The proposed method was validated on the 2019 Gangwon wildfire cases and showed a high overall accuracy over 98% and a high F1-score over 0.97 for both study sites.
Satellite data play a major role in supporting knowledge about forest fire by delivering rapid information to map areas damaged. This study, we used 7 Sentinel-2A images to detect change area in forests of Sokcho on April 4, 2019. The process of classify forest fire severity used 7 levels from Sentinel-2A dNBR(differenced Normalized Burn Ratio). In the process of classifying forest fire damage areas, the study selected three areas with high regrowth of vegetation level and conducted a detailed spatial analysis of the areas concerned. The results of dNBR analysis, regrowth of coniferous forest was greater than broad-leaf forest, but NDVI showed the lowest level of vegetation. This is the error of dNBR classification of dNBR. The results of dNBR time series, an area of forest fire damage decreased to a large extent between April 20th and May 3rd. This is an example of the regrowth by developing rare-plants and recovering broad-leaf plants vegetation. The results showed that change area was detected through the change detection of danage area by forest category and the classification errors of the coniferous forest were reached through the comparison of NDVI and dNBR. Therefore, the need to improve the precision Korean forest fire damage rating table accompanied by field investigations was suggested during the image classification process through dNBR.
Annual vegetation growth patterns are determined by the intrinsic phenological characteristics of each land cover types. So, if typical growth patterns of each land cover types are well-estimated, and a NDVI time-series data of a certain area is compared to those estimated patterns, we can implement more advanced analyses such as a land surface-type classification or a land surface type change detection. In this study, we utilized Terra MODIS NDVI 250m data and compressed full annual NDVI time series data into several indices using the Harmonic Analysis of Time Series(HANTS) algorithm which extracts the most significant frequencies expected to be presented in the original NDVI time-series data. Then, we found these frequencies patterns, described by amplitude and phase data, were significantly different from each other according to vegetation types and these could be used for land cover classification. However, in spite of the capabilities of the HANTS algorithm for detecting and interpolating cloud-contaminated NDVI values, some distorted NDVI pixels of June, July and August, as well as the long rainy season in Korea, are not properly corrected. In particular, in the case of two or three successive NDVI time-series data, which are severely affected by clouds, the HANTS algorithm outputted wrong results.
This study analyzed the spatio-temporal change detection of land-use and urbanization in Yongin and Anseong regions, Kyunggi Province, using three Landsat-5 TM images for 1990, 1996, and 2000. Remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) techniques were used for image classification and result analysis. Six land-use types were classified using supervised maximum likelihood classification. In the two study areas, the land-use changed significantly, especially the decrease of arable land and forest and increase of built-up area. Spatially, the urban expansion of Yongin region showed a spreading trend mainly along the national road and expressways. But in Anseong region the expansion showed 'urban sprawl phenomenon' with irregular shape like starfish. Temporally, the urban expansion showed disparity - the growth rates of urbanized area rose from the period 1990-1996 to 1996-2000 in both study areas. The increased built-up areas were converted mainly from paddy, dry vegetation, and forest.

Land-use in northern Cheongju region is changing rapidly because of the increased interactions of human activities with the environment as population increases. Land-use change detection is considered essential for monitoring the growth of an urban complex. The analysis was undertaken mainly on the basis of the multi-temporal Landsat images (1991, 1992 and 2000) and DEM data in a post-classification analysis with GIS to map land-use distribution and to analyse factors influencing the land-use changes for Cheongju city. The area of each land-use category was also calculated for monitoring land-use changes. Land-use statistics revealed that substantial land-use changes have taken place and that the built-up areas have expanded by about $17.57km^2$ (11.47%) over the study period (1991 - 2000). This study illustrated an increasing trend of urban and barren lands areas with a decreasing trend of agricultural and forest areas. Land-use changes from one category to others have been clearly represented by the NDVI composite images, which were found suitable for delineating the development of urban areas and land use changes in northern Cheongju region. Rapid economic developments together with the increasing population were noted to be the major factors influencing rapid land use changes. Urban expansion has replaced urban and barren lands.
The forest conditions of North Korea has been a great concern since it was known to be closely related to many environmental problems of the disastrous flooding, soil erosion, and food shortage. To assess the long-term changes of forest area as well as the canopy conditions, several sources of multitemporal satellite data were applied to the study area near Kaesung. KOMPSAT-1 EOC data were overlaid with 1981 topographic map showing the boundaries of forest to assess the deforestation area. Delineation of the cleared forest was performed by both visual interpretation and unsupervised classification. For analyzing the change of forest canopy condition, multiple scenes of Landsat and SPOT data were selected. After preprocessing of the multitemporal satellite data, such as image registration and normalization, the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) was derived as a representation of forest canopy conditions. Although the panchromatic EOC data had radiometric limitation to classify diverse cover types, they can be effectively used t detect and delineate the deforested area. The results showed that a large portion of forest land has been cleared for the urban and agricultural uses during the last twenty years. It was also found that the canopy condition of remaining forests has not been improved for the last twenty years. It was also found that the canopy condition of remaining forests has not been improved for the last twenty years. Possible causes of the deforestation and the temporal pattern of canopy conditions are discussed.

This study is to present a method of land cover change detection by the typhoon RUSA (August 1 - September 4, 2002) using Landsat 7 ETM+ images. For the Namdae-cheon watershed in Gangreung, two images of Sept. 29, 2000 and Nov. 22, 2002 were prepared. To identify the damaged areas, firstly, the NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) of each image was computed, secondly, the NDVI values were reclassified as two categories that the negative index values including zero are the one and the positive index values are the other, thirdly the reclassified image before typhoon is subtracted from the reclassified image after typhoon to get DNDVI (Differential NDVI). From the DNDVI image, the flooded and damaged areas could be extracted.
With the development of machine learning and deep learning technologies, there has been increasing interest and attempt to apply these technologies to the detection of urban changes. However, the traditional methods of detecting changes and constructing spatial information are still often performed manually by humans, which is costly and time-consuming. Besides, a large number of people are needed to efficiently detect changes in buildings in urban areas. Therefore, in this study, a methodology that can detect changes by classifying road, building, and vegetation objects that are highly utilized in the geospatial information field was proposed by applying deep learning technology to point clouds. As a result of the experiment, roads, buildings, and vegetation were classified with an accuracy of 92% or more, and attributes information of the objects could be automatically constructed through this. In addition, if time-series data is constructed, it is thought that changes can be detected and attributes of existing digital maps can be inspected through the proposed methodology.

In this study, the hydrosphere change of the Daecheong dam basin was detected qualitatively and quantitatively using Landsat satellite images until recentness since the construction of Daecheong dam. The hydrosphere change of the basin was analyzed by applying supervised classification about Landsat satellite images which were classified according to the hydrosphere, vegetation, road and etc. for four distinct years which are 1981, 1987, 1993, and 2002 year. Landsat satellite images of each year were achieved overlay analysis with extracting only the hydrosphere, and though these results, the hydrosphere change of the Daecheong dam basin was monitored efficiently.
This study aims to predict the change in corn share according to the grazing of 20 gestational sows in a mature corn field by taking images with a camera-equipped unmanned air vehicle (UAV). Deep learning based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) has been verified for its performance in various areas. It has also demonstrated high recognition accuracy and detection time in agricultural applications such as pest and disease diagnosis and prediction. A large amount of data is required to train CNNs effectively. Still, since UAVs capture only a limited number of images, we propose a data augmentation method that can effectively increase data. And most occupancy prediction predicts occupancy by designing a CNN-based object detector for an image and counting the number of recognized objects or calculating the number of pixels occupied by an object. These methods require complex occupancy rate calculations; the accuracy depends on whether the object features of interest are visible in the image. However, in this study, CNN is not approached as a corn object detection and classification problem but as a function approximation and regression problem so that the occupancy rate of corn objects in an image can be represented as the CNN output. The proposed method effectively estimates occupancy for a limited number of cornfield photos, shows excellent prediction accuracy, and confirms the potential and scalability of deep learning.
