Value Engineering Idea Generation for Temporary Construction Designs through Conflict Resolution (가시설 공사 설계VE 대안검토시 모순충돌 해결을 통한 아이디어 창출)

  • Idea creation is the most important step in the overall value engineering (VE) process. Usually the activity is done mostly relying on the experience and knowledge of the experts in the VE team. A more organized approach is needed to find the chance of design improvement during a VE workshop. This study presents an organized approach to increasing the chance of idea creation during the VE workshop. The concept of conflict resolution in TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) is applied to understand the problem area during design improvement. The technical parameters were identified in the problem area to explain the conflicts in design improvement. These technical parameters were used to assist problem solving and improve design functions. A case study was done on a temporary construction operation, and demonstrated that the organized idea creation can help improve the design value of the temporary construction operation.

  • This study enforced function analysis, achievements of ideas and valuations due to VE workshop about " the new construct field of apartment, A-14, Woonjeongjigu, Paju" as the project of a plan VE competition held by the Korea National Housing Corporation, For the results of the research, it was to enforce 163 works of function analysis, 333 items of creating ideas, and 193 achievements of ideas. Besides, VE was proposed about 46 works of increasing values and cost reduction for 103 works and 10,040,000,000 won.

  • In the analysis of function, which is the core and early phase among the procedure of construction VE Job Plan, the accuracy of function definition directly connects to VE result. However, the method of defining function, which is currently used is not accurate and comprehended or is difficult to utilize it systematically. Also, there is not a clear definition about the function for selecting VE so that many difficulties occur in the organic connection between each of functions in the summarization of function after defining function. Therefore, this study cleared the definition of function and made up any counter measured problem occurred in FAST Diagram later on and suggested CAFAT(Combined Antithetic Function Analysis Technique) in order to induce better phase in functional analysis.

  • Most VE operation related to construction project is progressed in stage of planing or design phase, especially in case of domestic. It is encouraging fact and if you have VE process in stage of planning and design, you'll have experience a reduction of about 70% of total saving cost in which total construction process may occurred. However, recently the work of construction in overseas increase and almost is only construction-work, except planning and design process. As this reason, VE process for construction-work phase only is demanded in high necessity. VE in construction phase comes to accomplish intensively in the part which the design change does not follow, through know-how, equipment operating method and method of temporary-structure erection at the established construction-site learned, builders will be the possibility of reduction from 3% to 10% in constructive expense. This paper describes VE performing example in OO company's construction-work phase, and propose the methodology of VE performance in the phase of construction. And also it is aimed to extending VE applications into the overseas construction enterprise.

  • Although pilot projects have been actively carried out from 2017 to present to institutionalize CM at Risk, one of the major tasks for innovation in the construction industry, standards and processes related to Design VE, a key tool for determining GMP in the pre-construction phase, have not yet been established. Therefore, through research and operation status related to CM at Risk and Design VE, and survey on project participants' perception, the problem of the existing design VE process was derived, and the design VE process suitable for the CM at Risk project was proposed. The application plan was proposed in three aspects: Schedule, Cycle, and Process, and the appropriateness and applicability were verified through FGI. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data on the establishment and legislation of order standards to be made in the future.

  • 인프라시설은 한번 설치하면 오랜 기간동안 사용해야 하는 시설로서 설치단계에서부터 가치에 기반하여 최적으로 구축하는 것이 무엇보다도 중요하다. 지금까지 설치된 인프라시설은 초기 투자비용만 고려되었을 뿐, 생애주기비용(LCC)과 성능이 고려되지 않아 효율적인 유지관리와 제대로된 자산관리를 하지 못하고 있는 것이 현실이다. 하지만, 앞으로의 시설 구축 개념은 최저 비용 개념에서 최고 가치 개념으로 변해가고 있으며, 정부에서도 100억원 이상의 건설공사에 LCC 및 VE 검토를 의무화 하고 있는 상황으로, 인프라시설 구축 시에도 VE 대안평가가 필요하다는 의견이 많이 대두되고 있다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 인프라시설 중 하나인 통신전주를 대상으로 VE 대안평가를 실시하여 향후 설치될 통신 전주에 대한 의사결정 가이드라인을 제시하고, 이를 체계적으로 지원할 수 있는 인프라시설 VE 평가시스템에 대한 내용도 함께 소개하여 인프라시설에 적용 가능한 VE 대안평가 기법의 초석을 마련하고자 한다.

  • In this study, the concepts of integrated VE analysis assessment is introduced in order to achieve "Design for Deterioration performance" in design VE phase. For this purpose, a framework for fuzzy reliability based LCC and value analysis model using fuzzy logic based approach for breakwaters Projects is suggested. It is anticipated that the methodology Proposed in this paper can also be utilized in the design and maintenance phase of other facilities where decision making is made for the fuzzy reliability based life cycle cost and value analysis.

  • Value Engineering(VE) has been recognized by many companies as a powerful and innovative technical approach for cost down and improvement in function of product and service. VE is a discipline which use an organized, creative approach to achieve the required function at the lowest cost. For the Purpose of developing new product, at this paper used the method of 2nd look VE developing bike helmet, in the order of selecting target, function analysis and writing alternative. The development of Helmet by the process of VE job plan, achieve the cost reduction of 27 million won for developing new product with customer's need.

  • After the introduction of the design VE system in 1990s, based on the legal system has made a rapid growth. Also It is evaluated as qualitative growth. Despite this growth, VE effort can cause the occurrence of the risk. In this paper carried out to hindrance factor that decrease the productivity in VE phase for strategy to improve the utilization of basic data.

  • The technical proposal bidding system emphasizes the evaluation of the construction company's technical capabilities, with the aim of improving the quality and cost-effectiveness of the construction. However, in the VE analysis and proposal process for technical proposal bidding, the ideas are often reused from similar past construction projects, and the application of new construction technologies/methods is often lacking. Therefore, this study proposes a methodology for managing VE proposal information by integrating it into a BIM model using parametric modeling. This research developed database based on the existing VE proposals and new construction technology/method information from the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology. And by using parametric modeling, the proposed method integrate the VE database with BIM model. The methodology proposed in this study is expected to improve the reliability and effectiveness of VE-related idea proposals in technical proposal bidding.
