The purpose of this study is to investigate distribution of the vegetation and insects of coastal dunes in the Yangyang area. The field survey was carried out Osan and Dongho coastal dunes during the period from June to July 2008. A total of 68 taxa were identified including 30 families, 60 genera, 59 species, and 9 varieties. 1 species(Glehnia littoralis) was recorded as designated rare plant of Korea Forest Service. The naturalized plants were 8 families, 13 species. The urbanization rate of naturalization index was 4.8% and 19.1% respectively. The land insect appeared with the 10 order, 23 families including 10 Korean specific species and 16 environmental indicator species for coastal dune. The species in Order Coleoptera was most, followed by Hemiptera, Orthoptera and Odonata respectively.

The native vascular plants, growing at the nature sabbatical application area, were classified & recorded as a total of 407 taxa, 83 families, 235 genera, 338 species, 3 subspecies, 54 varieties and 12 forms. The endangered wild plants were recorded as 2 taxa (Paeonia obovata and Lilium cernuum) and the Korean endemic plants were observed to exist in the formation of 21 taxa, 13 families, 19 genera, 15 species, 4 varieties and 2 forms including Cephalotaxus koreana, Pseudostellaria coreana, Aconitum pseudo-laeve, Clematis trichotoma, Geranium koreanum for. hirsutum, Thalictrum uchiyamai. The floristic special plants consist of 55 taxa, 35 families, 50 genera, 51 species, 4 varieties(Crypsinus hastatus, Cimicifuga heracleifolia, Paeonia obovata, Lilium cernuum and Gastrodia elata etc.). The naturalized plants comprise 10 taxa, 4 families, 10 genera, 9 species and 1 variety. The ratio of Urbanization and Naturalized Index was 3.51% and 2.46%, respectively. Life form spectra were displayed as H-R5-D4-e type.

The vascular plants recorded from the 11 sites of coastal sand dune in North Gyeongsang Province are as follows: 204 taxa, 2 hybrids, 1 form, 22 varieties, 1 subspecies, 178 species, 132 genera, 43 families. These areas also present rare plant (Glehnia littoralis); 20 taxa, 20 species, 20 genera, and 15 families of floristics special plants; 46 taxa, 2 variety, 44 species, 30 genera, and 12 families of naturalized plants. The ratio of urbanization and naturalized index is 16.14% and 22.55% respectively. Life form spectrum is Th-$R_5-D_4$-e type. The number of species recorded from the coastal sand dune in Hujeong area turned out to be the highest (44.6%), and the coastal sand dune in Heseo area showed the highest naturalized index (31.58%).
