  • The purpose of this study is to propose a pavement analysis system which considers dynamic effects resulted from the various vehicle speeds. Vehicle loading effects were estimated by loading frequency and dynamic loads under various vehicle speeds. In addition, a proposed analysis model takes the non-linear temperature using a predictive model for dynamic modulus in asphalt layer and the non-linear stress in the unbound material. To examine adequacy of existing multi-layer elastic analysis of non-linear temperature in asphalt layer and non-linear stress conditions in unbound material, this study divided layers of asphalt pavement structures with 10 layers in asphalt, 2 layers in subbase and 1 layer in subgrade. In order to verify the pavement analysis system that considers various speeds, deflections of pavement calculated using ABAQUS, a three dimensional finite element program, were compared with the results of field tests under various speeds.

An Improved Semi-Empirical Model for Radar Backscattering from Rough Sea Surfaces at X-Band

  • We propose an improved semi-empirical scattering model for X-band radar backscattering from rough sea surfaces. This new model has a wider validity range of wind speeds than does the existing semi-empirical sea spectrum (SESS) model. First, we retrieved the small-roughness parameters from the sea surfaces, which were numerically generated using the Pierson-Moskowitz spectrum and measurement datasets for various wind speeds. Then, we computed the backscattering coefficients of the small-roughness surfaces for various wind speeds using the integral equation method model. Finally, the large-roughness characteristics were taken into account by integrating the small-roughness backscattering coefficients multiplying them with the surface slope probability density function for all possible surface slopes. The new model includes a wind speed range below 3.46 m/s, which was not covered by the existing SESS model. The accuracy of the new model was verified with two measurement datasets for various wind speeds from 0.5 m/s to 14 m/s.

  • In this paper, friction and wear behaviors between monocrystalline, defect-free copper and carbon on the atomic scale are investigated by using 2-dimensional molecular dynamics simulation. It is assumed that all interatomic forces are given by Morse potential. The deformation of carbon is assumed to be neglected and vacuum condition is also assumed. Average friction and normal forces for various surface conditions, various scratch speeds and scratch depths are obtained from simulations. Changes of wear behaviors for various scratch speeds and surface conditions are investigated by observing snapshots in scratch process. The effects of surface conditions, scratch speeds, and scratch depths on the friction force, normal force, and friction coefficient are also investigated.

  • Generally, the machining accuracy in ball end milling directly depends on the rotational accuracy affected by the spindle speeds. The effects of spindle speeds for rotational accuracy in the high speed regions are more dominant than those in the low speed regions. This paper will investigate effects that the Increased speed affects on the rotational error according to the increase of a rotational speed and machining characteristics of the high speed ball-end milling in various rotational speeds and on various materials by using the high speed air-bearing spindle.

원예시설용 망의 압력강하 특성에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Characteristics of Pressure Drop of Screens Used in Horticultural Facilities)

  • This study was carried out to present the pressure drop for various wind speeds through nine types of screens used in horticultural facilities. The screens have been widely used to prevent harmful insects from being entered into agricultural facilities, to reduce strong wind and to shade a light as well. Whatever the usage of the screens was, it was necessary to have good knowledge of how much the screen caused a pressure drop for wind speeds when analyzing both the inner thermal-flow distribution in the facility and the effect of reducing wind speed by using CFD. Furthermore, as for wind screens, the pressure drop for wind speeds was needed as a design load in evaluating the structural stability of the structures supporting the screens. Therefore, the pressure drop through the screens for wind speeds of 5~30 $m{\cdot}s^{-1}$ at about 5 $m{\cdot}s^{-1}$ interval and inflow angles of $0{\sim}45^{\circ}$ at an interval of $15^{\circ}$ was respectively measured in a subsonic wind tunnel. The relation of the pressure drop for various screens was well fitted as a secondorder polynomial expression.

  • Vehicle routing problem is one of the traveling salesman problems with various conditions such as vehicle capacity limits, delivery time windows, as well as time dependent speeds in metropolitan area. In this research hourly vehicle moving speeds information in a typical metropolitan area are analyzed to use the results in the design procedure of VRP heuristic. Quality initial vehicle routing solutions can be obtained with adaption of the analysed results of the time periods with no vehicle speed changes. This strategy makes complicated time dependent vehicle speed simple to solve. Time dependent vehicle speeds are too important to ignore to obtain optimum vehicle routing search for real life logistics systems.

도로에서 차량당 CO2 발생의 민감도 (Analysis of CO2 Emission Sensitivity in Roadways)

  • PURPOSES: The sensitivity of $CO_2$ emissions per vehicle by a various speeds is compared according to the type of roads. METHODS: The methodology of the study are as follows: First, the sensitivity of $CO_2$ emissions per vehicle are analyzed by averaged daily travel speeds. Second, the sensitivity of $CO_2$ emissions per vehicle are analyzed by averaged hourly travel speed. Third, the sensitivity of $CO_2$ emissions per vehicle are analyzed by sectional travel speeds. RESULTS: The sensitivity that on Saturday in a week, at peak times in a day and in close location from Seoul was higher than in other situations. CONCLUSIONS: From this study, we may conclude that $CO_2$ emissions per vehicle at low speeds are generally more sensitive.

신뢰도 기준에 근거한 도로설계 대안에 대한 교통안전성 평가 (Evaluation of Highway Design Alternatives Based on Reliability Criterion for Traffic Safety)

  • It has been well known that traffic accidents occur under combined functional contributions of drivers, vehicles and road facilities, and that evaluation of safety levels for a specific road section or point is generally much complicated. Additionally, most of traffic accidents occur randomly implicating it is necessary to be evaluated in terms of probability theory. Thus, the evaluation model which reflects various characteristics and probabilistic distributions of traffic accidents has been necessary. The present paper provides a reliability based model with variables of probabilistic operating speeds and design speeds together which have been individually explaining associated characteristics in traffic accidents. Consequently, the model made it possible for speed management and road improvement projects to be evaluated in a common index. Application studies were performed in three cases. Through the studies, couples of facts were identified that the model successfully considered the probabilistic operating speeds and design speeds together and that then, the model evaluated road safety alternatives relatively which are complicatedly characterized and differently located.

회전자를 갖는 분리형 히트파이프의 열전달특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Heat Transfer Characteristics of Separate Type Heat Pipe with a Rotor)

  • The purpose of this research is to study on the heat transfer characteristics of separate type heat pipe with a rotor. The heat transfer characteristics of the rotor condenser are various on input heat of evaporator, rotational speeds of rotor, and working fluid amount. The results obtained from the study are as follows. 1. Magnetic fluid using seal of the rotor operated in stability by a variation of temperature and rotation speeds. The configuration of magnetic fluid seal assembly was adequate. 2. Steam ejector is effective in recovering working fluid condensate in the rotor. When steam ejector is operating, the heat flux of working fluid does not change, with the wall temperature in the rotor. 3. The optimum design conditions on working fluid amount and rotational speeds are effective in evaporator volume 50%, rotational speeds 200rpm, 300rpm, and operating temperature $80^{\circ}C$. With working fluid amount increasing, overall heat transfer coefficient decreases linearly.

K-Means Clustering의 차량경로문제 적용연구 (An Application of k-Means Clustering to Vehicle Routing Problems)

  • This research is to develop a possible process to apply k-means clustering to an efficient vehicle routing process under time varying vehicle moving speeds. Time varying vehicle moving speeds are easy to find in metropolitan area. There is a big difference between the moving time requirements of two specific delivery points. Less delivery times are necessary if a delivery vehicle moves after or before rush hours. Various vehicle moving speeds make the efficient vehicle route search process extremely difficult to find even for near optimum routes due to the changes of required time between delivery points. Delivery area division is designed to simplify this complicated VRPs due to time various vehicle speeds. Certain divided area can be grouped into few adjacent divisions to assume that no vehicle speed change in each division. The vehicle speeds moving between two delivery points within this adjacent division can be assumed to be same. This indicates that it is possible to search optimum routes based upon the distance between two points as regular traveling salesman problems. This makes the complicated search process simple to attack since few local optimum routes can be found and then connects them to make a complete route. A possible method to divide area using k-means clustering is suggested and detailed examples are given with explanations in this paper. It is clear that the results obtained using the suggested process are more reasonable than other methods. The suggested area division process can be used to generate better area division promising improved vehicle route generations.
