A solvent extraction system of copper-thiocyanate complex into various types of alkylamines such as secondary, tertiary and quaternary ammonium salt for the determination of trace copper by atomic absorption spectrometry is presented. The maximum extraction of copper shows at 0.1 M-thiocyanate and single extraction with 10 ml of 1% amine-MIBK from 50 ml of aqueous solution is enough to be quantitative for micro amounts of copper. The effect of amine diluents and of diverse ions are also examined.
Even if odorous compounds remained very low concentration in water, it caused strong odor. Because Geosmin and most of odorous compound had very vaporization, those were difficult to analyze with GC/MSD and Purge & Trap. So, we needed pre-treatment method for decreasing amounts of extracting solvents, improving recovery efficiencies and increasing analytical efficiencies. This study developed efficient technology for analyzing odorous compounds, using various adsorbents and extracting solvents. The optimum adsorbent was XAD resins. Especially, XAD-2, XAD-7 and XAD-2010 were superior, but XAD-2 of these and MTBE was the optimum extraction solvent. Other extraction solvent's efficiency was in order of MTBE>Dichloromethane>n-Hexane>Diethylether. The optimum NaCl dosage for increasing efficiency was 5g in liquid-liquid extraction method. The shaking time(0∼24hr) had no concern with adsorption efficiency. The optimum adsorbent was XAD-2 resin and extraction solvent was MTBE. Dosing NaCl, adsorption efficiency was increased in liquid-liquid extraction method, but NaCl has no effect on liquid-solid extraction method. In this experimental results, this method will apply to not only Geosmin but other well-known odorous compounds (2-MIB, IBMP, IPMP, TCA) and algae toxins (Mycrocystin, Anatoxin etc)
A lab-scale fundamental study to develop the solvent extraction process of ship wash wastewater containing TBT was carried out. For various solvents, including diesels for car and ship, bunker B, thinner, toluene, and ether, the extraction efficiencies of TBT from synthetic ship wash wastewater were compared The effect of extraction conditions, such as solvent amount, time and intensity of agitation, and pH, on the extraction efficiency of TBT was evaluated Diesel for ship showed better extraction efficiency of TBT than those of other tested solvents, and the proper amount of the extraction solvent for 1L of the wastewater was l0mL. When the agitation intensity was increased from 50rpm to 250rpm, the TBT remained in the wastewater after the extraction was decreased from around 120ppb to 2.8ppb. The remaining TBT in the wastewater was sharply decreased from 1hr of the extraction time, but was slightly increased again after 5hrs of the extraction time. The efficiency of TBT extraction was good in the weak acid range of pH, but was not significant as much as the others.

To investigate some factors on oleoresin extraction from red pepper, the content of yield, capsanthin and capsaicin in oleoresin extracted under various factors such as solvent, variety of materials, extraction time and temperature, storage condition of dried red pepper and its parts, particle size of raw material powder and the ratios of red pepper powder to extraction solvent were investigated. Ethyl alcohol and ethylene dichloride were effective in extracting capsanthin and capsaicin from red pepper, respectively. Mixed-solvent bore fruitful in increasing of oleoresin yield, but was fruitless in extracting capsanthin and capsaicin in comparison with single-solvent. In three varieties such as Juktoma, Jinsol and Dabok, Jinsol was excellent in oleoresin extraction. Optimum extracting temperature and time was $20^{\circ}C$ and three to five hours, respectively. Oleoresin quality from long-term storage and/or coarse red pepper were low in point of yield, capsanthin and capsaicin. Capsanthin and capsaicin were distributed into pericarp and seed in abundance, respectively. Optimum mixing ratio of red pepper powder to extracting solvent was suitable for one to three(1 : 3) or one to four(1 : 4) in oleoresin extraction.
The edible part of cucurbita moschata Duch, which is commonly used as a Korean traditional medicine as well as a popular food source, was studied to isolate anti-complementary substance. Extracts of Cucurbita moschata Duch showed significant anti-complementary activities on the classical pathway of the complement system. Especially, the ripe Cucurbita moschata Duch had more activity than that of the complement system. Especially, the ripe Cucurbita moschata Duch had more activity than that of the green one in terms of the overall anti-complementary activity. Among the extracts of various organic solvents of the ripe Cucurbita moschata Duch, chloroform and ethyl-acetate extracts, which are non-polar solvent extracts, showed the strongest activities. These results suggest that the major difference in the solvent extraction for the anti-complementary substances depends on the change in the chemical composition such as the fatty acid with the degree of ripening.

Lycium barbarum extract has a high potential to be developed as a health functional food due to the various health-promoting effects of Lycium barbarum. This study analyzed changes in nutritional and functional components depending on the extraction solvent (purified water and a mixture of purified water and alcohol) and the condition of the sample. The nutritional components (carbohydrates, protein, fat, ash), organic acids, amino acids, total phenolic compounds, and total flavonoids of the extract produced during the extraction process were analyzed. The nutritional composition and functional substances of the extracts showed some differences depending on the type of solvent and the condition of the sample. The amounts of crude protein (7.61%), crude fat (1.63%), carbohydrate (90.22%), and ash (0.54%) of dried Lycium barbarum extract using purified water as a solvent were similar to those of the powder sample extract. The highest content of citric acid was 4.31 mg/mL, similar to the case of acetic acid, when the powder sample used a mixture of purified water and alcohol as a solvent. The highest amino acid content was 357.39 mg/mL when the powder sample was mixed with purified water and alcohol as a solvent. The total amount of phenolic compounds was 686.16 g/L when the powder sample was extracted with a mixture of purified water and alcohol as a solvent. The highest total flavonoid content was 111.32 g/L when the powder sample was extracted with a mixture of purified water and alcohol as a solvent.
Soy isoflavones have drawn much attention due to their potential to prevent breast and prostate cancers, osteoporosis, heart disease, and other postmenopausal symptoms. Soy germ is one of the richest sources of isoflavones, and thus has good potential to be used as the ingredient of health foods. This study examined the extraction rate of isoflavones from soy germ at various conditions. After the effect of extraction temperature and duration on isoflavones extraction from soy germ was examined, the optimum concentration of ethanol as extraction solvent was determined. When ethanol concentration was fixed at $60\%\;(v/v)$, the maximum isoflavone extraction was achieved at 2 hrs and $30^{\circ}C$. Among various concentrations of ethanol tested, $80\%\;(v/v)$ ethanol showed the highest extraction efficiency. In conclusion, the maximum extraction of isoflavones was obtained using $80\%\;(v/v)$ ethanol as a solvent, at $30^{\circ}C$ of temperature, and 2 hrs of extraction time.

Capacity of the analytical/quantitative evaluation techniques to satisfy both qualitative and quantitative considerations for effective extraction of marigold oleoresins/xanthophylls and their potential as anti-mycotic and antioxidant activity was assessed. Accelerated solvent extraction (ASE), Soxhlet extraction (SE), Supercritical fluid extraction (SCFE), Cold extraction (CE), and ultrasonically assisted extraction (USE) techniques were evaluated for extraction of oleoresin/xanthophyll content from Tagetes erecta (Var. Pusa Narangi Genda) with respect to solvent consumption, extraction time, reproducibility, and yield. Followed by the antifungal and antioxidant activity evaluation. The overall yield of Tagetes oleoresin was higher in ASE (64.5 g/kg) followed by SE (57.3 g/kg), USE (50.7 g/kg), SCFE (45.3 g/kg) and CE (31.6 g/kg). The lutein esters represented more than 80% of the constituents. Further, xanthophyll/ lutein content in oleoresin was found to be quite higher in HPLC (r2 = 0.996) analysis than in the AOAC recommended UV spectrophotometer analysis. The oleoresin exhibited moderate antioxidant activity (DPPH assay) and antifungal activity against three phytopathogenic fungi. Based on the various parameters, the reproducibility of ASE was better (0.3-8.0%) than that of SE (0.5-12.9%), SCFE (0.2-9.4%), USE (0.3-12.4%) and CE (0.8-15.3%). ASE with (RSD 1.6%) is preferred being faster, reproducible, uses less solvent, robust and automation allows sequential extraction of the sample in less time.
Antimicrobial and antioxidative activities of various solvent extracts from different parts of the loquat were investigated to process it as the functional food. The extraction yield showed higher in butanol fraction of 4.95% in peel and 4.42% in seed than others, but water fraction showed high extraction yield of 3.89% in leafs 23.6% in the seedless fruit and 21.1% in fresh, In the antimicrobial activity test, ethyl acetate fraction that leaf and fruit excluded seed inhibited higher 19, 15 mm and 16, 15 m in clear zone far Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in each. Ethyl acetate fraction that extracted from a series of polar and nonpolar solvent fractionation of methanol extracts showed better results in the hydrogen donating activity of 82% in leaf, 74% in seedless fruit, 68% in seed, 52% in peel and 30% in fresh.
There are several steps such as slicing, lapping, chemical etching and mechanical polishing in the silicon wafer production process. The chemical etching step is necessary to remove damaged layer caused In the slicing and lapping steps. The typical etching liquor is the acid mixture comprising nitric acid, acetic acid and hydrofluoric acid. At present, the waste acid is treated by a neutralization method with a high alkali cost and balky solid residue. A solvent extraction method is applicable to separate and recover each acid. Acetic acid is first separated from the waste liquor using 2-ethlyhexyl alcohols as an extractant. Then, nitric acid is recovered using TBP(Tri-butyl phosphate) as an extractant. Finally hydrofluoric acid is separated with the TBP solvent extraction. The expected recovered acids in this process are 2㏖/l acetic acid, 6㏖/1 nitric acid and 6㏖/l hydrofluoric acid. The yields of this process are almost 100% for acetic acid and nitric acid. On the other hand, it is important to recover and reuse the metal values contained in various industrial wastes in a viewpoint of environmental preservation. Most of industrial products are made through the processes to separate impurities in raw materials, solid and liquid wastes being necessarily discharged as industrial wastes. Chemical methods such as solvent extraction, ion exchange and membrane, and physical methods such as heavy media separation, magnetic separation and electrostatic separation are considered as the methods for separation and recovery of the metal values from the wastes. Some examples of the application of solvent extraction to the treatment of wastes such as Ni-Co alloy scrap, Sm-Co alloy scrap, fly ash and flue dust, and liquid wastes such as plating solution, the rinse solution, etching solution and pickling solution are introduced.
