AC and DC Applications of Induction Generator Excited by Static VAR Compensator

  • This paper presents the steady-state analysis of the three-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG). The three-phase SEIG with a squirrel cage rotor is driven by a variable-speed prime mover (VSPM) or a constant-speed prime mover (CSPM) such as a wind turbine or a micro gas turbine. Furthermore, a PI closed-loop feedback voltage regulation scheme of the three-phase SEIG driven by a VSPM on the basis of the static VAR compensator (SVC) is designed and evaluated for the stand-alone AC and DC power applications. The simulation and experimental results prove the practical effectiveness of the additional SVC with the PI controller-based feedback loop in terms of its fast responses and high performances

  • The pulsed power system was widely making use good of many industrial and environments. The pulse generator generally required for short pulse duration and high peak value was forced to consider its volume and economy. In this paper, this system is designed and fabricated which has a compact size of pulse generator with switched MOSFET. We have studied the removal of rust material using Arc discharging. It have tested their characteristics by adjusting variable voltage charging and pulse repetition rate. As a result, We can eliminate rust materials with this device.

  • This paper presents development of variable speed generation (VSG) system with energy saving function. The rubber tyred gantry crane (RTGC) requires the power from diesel-engine. Significant fuel savings by reducing the engine speed can be achieved, because all of operation modes except hoisting are required lower power than rated value of engine. When low speed operation output voltage of generator is decrease until acceptable range of motor driver inverters and auxiliary load supplier. According to power demand engine speed is varying from 20 to 60Hz, and voltage is varying between 210Vac and 480Vac. When idle mode or low power operation dc/dc converter operates by constant output voltage control and inverters dc site voltage is compensated by it. This paper proposed 3-phase interleaved boost converter which has the same structure as the commercially available 3-phase inverter and current sharing capability. 400kW interleaved converter is designed and a performance of converter is evaluated through several experiments with a RTGC system. Energy saving VSG system can cut down fuel consumption by 36% and 21.3% at idle and unidirectional load operations.

  • Recently more attention is paid to the development of high-speed permanent magnet (PM) synchronous generators driven by gas-turbine, since they are conductive to high efficiency, high power density, small size, low weight, simple mechanical construction, easy maintenance and good reliability. In this paper, the performance analysis of a high-speed PM synchronous generator for military power application considering the min-max operating speed is presented. The output current and power versus DC-link voltage loci can obtained by solving the PM machine's steady-state equations for variable resistive load.

  • The high rate of voltage rise (dv/dt) in motor terminals caused by high-frequency switching and impedance mismatches between inverter and motor are known as the primary causes of irregular voltage distributions and insulation breakdowns on stator windings in IGBT PWM inverter-driven induction motors. In this paper, voltage distributions in the stator windings of an induction motor driven by an IGBT PWM inverter are studied. To analyze the irregular voltages of stator windings, high frequency parameters are derived from the finite element (FE) analysis of stator slots. An equivalent circuit composed of distributed capacitances, inductance, and resistance is derived from these parameters. This equivalent circuit is then used for simulation in order to predict the voltage distributions among the turns and coils. The effects of various rising times in motor terminal voltages and cable lengths on the stator voltage distribution are also presented. For a comparison with simulations, an induction motor with taps in the stator turns was made and driven by a variable-rising time switching surge generator. The test results are shown.

Maximum Power Point Tracking Control Scheme for Grid Connected Variable Speed Wind Driven Self-Excited Induction Generator

  • This paper proposes a wind energy conversion system connected to a grid using a self-excited induction generator (SEIG) based on the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control scheme. The induction generator (IG) is controlled by the MPPT below the base speed and the maximum energy can be captured from the wind turbine. Therefore, the stator currents of the IG are optimally controlled using the indirect field orientation control (IFOC) according to the generator speed in order to maximize the generated power from the wind turbine. The SEIG feeds a (CRPWM) converter which regulates the DC-link voltage at a constant value where the speed of the IG is varied. Based on the IG d-q axes dynamic model in the synchronous reference frame at field orientation, high-performance synchronous current controllers with satisfactory performance are designed and analyzed. Utilizing these current controllers and IFOC, a fast dynamic response and low current harmonic distortion are attained. The regulated DC-link voltage feeds a grid connected CRPWM inverter. By using the virtual flux orientation control and the synchronous frame current regulators for the grid connected CRPWM inverter, a fast current response, low harmonic distortion and unity power factor are achieved. The complete system has been simulated with different wind velocities. The simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed MPPT control scheme for a wind energy system. In the simulation results, the d-q axes current controllers and DC-link voltage controller give prominent dynamic response in command tracking and load regulation characteristics.

  • Permanent-magnet (PM) synchronous generator is feasible for use with a wind turbine, because the generator for wind power requires variable-speed generation, light weight, and high torque. In this paper, basic design and construction of an axial-flux permanentmagnet generator with power output at 60 [Hz], 300 [r/min] for wind energy system is introduced. Finite-element method (FEM) is applied to analyze generator performance. In order to save time, equivalent analysis model is developed. The performance of the proposed generator at no-load and resistive load are compared, and power output and voltage at various speed and loads are compared as well. The results of FE analysis show that this PM generator is a useful solution for small-scale wind-turbine applications.

  • Grid-connected photovoltaic generator system requires high performance PCS(Power Conditioning System) according to the standard of 'Distributed Generation Grid-Connected Technology Standards'. This paper presents the MPPT control method which improves output efficiency through fast tracking to the maximum power point of PV and a reduced self-excited vibration. Secondly, in this paper DVR function was applied to PCS to compensate the voltage sag frequently happening for a power system. The proposed PCS control is analyzed and compared to conventional PCS operating characteristic, the various insolation and loads, and voltage sag condition through PSIM tool. It proves the utility.

  • Bimodal tram has a carbody made of polymer composite material which is good electrical insulator. As an series hybrid type, Alternating voltage generated from generator coupled with CNG engine are rectified and transformed to variable voltage ranges which are applied to electrical apparatus and ECUs equipped inside of the tram. The failures of electrical insulation between high voltage($400V{\sim}800V$) and low voltage(24V) or between different kind of voltages such as AC and DC may cause some electrical interferences to prevent from operating rightly and other safety problem. This paper have investigated about the degradation factors of the electrical insulation and the earthing method available to bimodal tram, which is effective for preventing the electromagnetic interference coming from the inside or outside of tram but need some detecting measurements of earth leakage through electrical systems.

  • 본 논문에서는 13.56 MHz 반송주파수를 사용하며, ISO1443 A타입/B타입, 15693을 만족하는 RFID 리더기용 송수신기를 설계하였다. 수신기에서 자동적으로 비교전압을 생성하기 위해서 양과 음의 두 피크전압을 검출할 수 있는 음의 피크검출기와 양의 피크검출기와 수신된 신호의 세기에 따라 기준전압의 결정 레벨(decision level)을 가변 할 수 있는 데이터 슬라이서를 사용한 회로를 제안하였다. 송신기는 15693 표준 스펙을 만족시키기 위해서는 큰 출력스왕 및 전류가 필요하게 된다. 이런 이유로 고정된 부하에서도 전원 전압이상의 출력스윙이 가능하고,큰 전류를 흐릴 수 있는 코일부하를 사용하면서 세 가지 표준 모두 만족시킬 수 있었다. 또한 각 표준에 따라 출력전류는 5 mA~240 mA, 변조율은 100%, 30%~5%까지 조정 가능하도록 하였다. 13.56 MHz RFID 리더기는 CM0S $0.18\;{\mu}m$ 공정과 3.3V 단독전압을 사용하였다. 패드 제외한 칩 면적은 $1.5\;mm\;{\times}\;1.5mm$ 이다.
