A Study on the Fluid Interception Valve According to Non Rubbing Top and Bottom operation Shaft (무마찰 상하작동 축에 의한 유체차단 밸브에 관한 연구)

  • Liquid valve is divided into cylinder and liquid part or composed of a single body structure. It becomes a connected structure to cylinder head after inserting stainless(STS) shaft to Teflon packing. In injecting and intercepting fluid, working efficiency becomes low because of the top and bottom round trip operation the friction between Teflon packing and STS shaft fluid leakage, decline of working environment, and each part replacement. And so target value is unattainable in productivity liquid valve design, quality, and structure change are studied. In this paper, designed to solve the existing problems basically, to prevent friction of Piston by developing diaphragm linked with piston, to satisfy long life, and to provide the prevention of leakage. The objective of the study is also to prevent remains fluid at nozzle tip after dispensing fluid, and bell close with the suction function in piston retreating.

Optimal Control of Injection Molding Process by Using temperature Sensor (캐비티 온도센서를 이용한 최적 사출공정 제어)

  • Injection Molding is the most effective process for mass production of plastic parts. The injection molding process is composed with several steps such as Filling, Packing, Holding, Cooling, Ejecting. Among them, filling and packing process should be considered carefully to improve accuracy of dimension, surface quality of plastic parts. Usually the quality above-mentioned is managed with weight of part after molding on the field. In this paper, a series of experiment for molding automotive front bumper was conducted with cavitity temperature sensor to optimize switch-over time(V-P switching), hot runner vale gate sequence time during filling and packing step for the purpose of uniform quality, weight at every molding. As a result, it was found that it is effective method to use temperature sensor in injection molding for quality control of plastic molding.

  • Currently, most of all valves using at the semiconductor & LCD manufacturing process are packless type. Such valves are needed to have the functions to protect perfectly from the leakage of fluid by using bellows and diaphragm instead of the grand packing. But not only those valves made in Korea are not available at this point, but also advanced foreign manufacturers do not open enough their data on the basic technology. Otherwise although they open the data a little, they are almost data about stainless steel for pneumatic valves. In this paper, it was focused on the fluid valves for chemical & DI water based on the data of steel valves which are already using commercially. And also this study concentrated to collect the basic developing data of Eco-On/Off diaphragm valve by ourselves.

Study on the Fugitive Emissions of a PFA Lined Ball Valve through Helium Leak Detection (PFA 라이닝 볼밸브의 헬륨누설 검출 및 비산배출에 관한 연구)

  • A PFA lined ball valve, which is machined with fluorinated resin PFA to its inner part for improving corrosion resistance, non-stickness, heat-resistance, has been widely used to the chemical/pharmaceutical industries, the semiconductor/LCD manufacturing processes, etc. with the high purity chemicals as working fluid. EPA stated that 60% of all fugitive emissions come from the valve stem packing in a typical petroleum or chemical processing plant. They monitor regulated components for leaks and maintain seal performance at acceptable levels. Korean industrial standards only deals with the bubble test for in-line leakage of valves, which has the detectable leak rate of $10^{-4}$ [$mbar{\cdot}L{\cdot}s^{-1}$], therefore, it is not sufficient to check fugitive emissions. In this study, we conducted Helium leak detection from a PFA lined ball valve and evaluated fugitive emissions according to ISO 15848-1, which has the detectable leak rate of $10^{-9}$ [$mbar{\cdot}L{\cdot}s^{-1}$], for manufacturing the high-reliable PFA lined ball valves against fugitive emissions.

  • To review mass transfer trays from a process of view, the dependence of efficiency in loading ranges and maximum loadings with an acceptable efficiency of traditional tray have to be known. It is reported about the performance of the metallic Dualflex, relatively new high performance packing. Absorption, desorption and rectification tests as well as pressure drop and maximum capacity are concerned, indicate the superiority of the Dualflex over the general packing of comparable, main process. The process engineering characteristics show that Dualflex can be applied for all mass transfer precesses and it is to be recommended especially for those high capacity separations which requite allow low pressure drop because of the thermal sensibility of the product or because of the need of energy saving.

  • A pneumatic control valve performs a major role in controlling the flow of a system or the level of a key tank in many power plants, and its performance should be guaranteed during the plant's lifetime. Its operation starts by supplying air to the pneumatic actuator or by exhausting the air from the actuator. To control the valve position, the amount of air supply or exhaust is adjusted by a control loop where various accessaries are equipped. In this paper, air leakage in the air supply line, changes in the valve packing force, and false adjustments of zero and the span of the positioner are simulated and analyzed using a 2-in pneumatic valve with a position control loop including an I/P converter and positioner, where the valve position is controlled within ${\pm}2%$ of the control pressure at 67% opening position.

Optimal Design of the Safety Valve by Response Surface Method (반응표면법을 이용한 안전밸브의 최적화)

  • High pressure storage of the agent gas in fire suppression system was composed of tank, main valve and safety valve, which prevents the fracture of the high pressure storage. The safety valve has circular thin plate as fracture plate that was destroyed over fracture pressure. When inner pressure of the storage is reached the fracture pressure, the safety valve discharges gas and degrades simultaneously the inner pressure of the storage. There are design variables such as flow path diameter, inner diameter of the plastic packing ring, thickness of plate and fillet radius. In this variables, thickness of plate is set to be a value of 0.2mm. The main effect of variables on the inner pressure, has been decided using factorial design and statistical analysis. Therefore, the relation of variables are expressed by regression equation. It is disclosed results that the difference of fracture pressures between the equation and experiment has $2{\sim}5%$. Finally, using response surface method, the optimal design of the safety valve could be decided with safety pressure of 25MPa, where the fracture occurs on circular thin plate.

Leakage-reduction Measures at a Joint between CPVC Piping for a Sprinkler System and a Pipe Expansion (스프링클러설비용 CPVC관과 신축배관 접속부분에서의 누수저감 대책에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we try to suggest measures to reduce leakage at a joint between CPVC piping for a sprinkler system and a pipe expansion through reviews of domestic and foreign standards and related tests. The quality of the waterproof rubber packing material between a valve socket and pipe expansion nut was examined. In the leak test, the valve socket material over the expansion part of the metal pipe nut was found to use a metal part or a schlorinated polyvinyl chloride pipe nut part. In addition, the KS B 0221 standard for parallel pipe threads with threaded and thread inspection criteria and inspection standards in order to ensure an acceptable quality of valve socket, there is a need to amend the regulations to comply with the KS B 5223 (screw thread limit gauges parallel pipe threads). We do not have detailed standards for expansion piping nuts for waterproof rubber ring material, so we need to amend the relevant criteria for EPDM material to be used with excellent waterproofing, for which both NBR and EPDM are currently used.

In-Situ Application Study on the Power Plant Valve Leak Diagnosis Using Acoustic Emission Technology (음향방출을 이용한 발전용 밸브 누설 진단 현장 적용 연구)

  • Valves in power plants are leaking internally by various damages including insertion of foreign objects on seat, seat crack, defects and fatigue crack of stem packing or welds etc. due to severe operating conditions such as high temperature and high pressure for extended period time. Acoustic emission(AE) technology should be applied in order to diagnose precisely and evaluate these valve internal leak. In this paper, results of studies which have accomplished in actual power plant are presented. We have analyzed background noise, AE signal level and frequency spectrum through laboratory tests on the basis of various actual conditions in power plant, and also have considered evaluation methods on the background noise, AE properties and the detectable minimum leak rate according to valve leak conditions through comparing with results of field tests in power plant. As a result of these studies, we conformed that evaluation of internal leak conditions including discrimination of leak or not, and the detectable minimum leak rate is possible, and also it is expected to contribute to safe operation and prevention of energy loss in power plants.

Review of Safety for Pressure-Relieving Systems of Small to Middle Scale Chemical Plants (중소규모 화학공장의 압력방출시스템에 대한 안전성 검토)

  • A variety of safety issues were investigated for chemical reactors using a toluene solvent in case of a fire at small to middle scale chemical plants. The issues covered the operation of pressure-relieving valves and the subsequent discharges of the toluene to the atmosphere either directly or through an absorber, which represent the current practice at most small chemical plants. It was shown that the safety valve on the reactor may not operate within about twenty minutes after an external fire breaks out, but, once relieved, the toluene vapor released directly to the atmosphere may form a large explosion range on the ground. It was also shown that if the discharge is routed to an existing absorber used for the scrubbing of volatile organic compounds or dusts, the column may not operate normally due to excessive pressure drops or flooding, resulting in the hazardous release of toluene vapors. This study proposed two ways of alleviating these risks. The first is to ruduce the discharge itself from the safety valve by using adequate insulation and protection covers on the reactor and then introduce it into the circulation water at the bottom of the absorber through a dip linet pipe equipped with a ring-shaped sparger. This will enhance the condensation of toluene vapors with the reduced effluent vapors treated in the packing layers above. The second is to install a separate quench drum to condense the routed toluene vapors more effectively than the existing absorber.
