  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy and adequacy of research papers reporting statistical testings for mean differences. Methods: Original research articles utilized t-test, Chi-square test, and ANOVA were reviewed from Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing published from the year 2004 to 2006. Seventy-six papers were evaluated in accordance with formatted criteria in respect to an inclusiveness of research title, accuracy of statistical methods and presentation styles, and errors in reporting statistical outcomes. Results: Research titles were quite comprehensive, however overall accuracy of statistical values and basic formats reached only 60 to 80% by items. Details of the presentation in the reporting of outcomes were not complied with the guidelines, which need careful concerns of the writers. Errors of English in table presentation were found in more than 30% of the papers. Conclusion: The outcome would be reflected in the submission guidelines for future writers. To reach the level comparable with internationally recognized nursing journals, concrete knowledge to apply statistical methods should be ensured in the processes of submission, reviews, and editing.

  • As the development of modern technology, human works shift whose roll from physical conditions to the system monitoring tasks. In this paper, safety-presentation configuration is discussed instead of well-known fault-warning configuration. Safety-presentation configuration is verified as superior to the fault-warning configuration in hazard prevention. The estimation of system states involves the decision making environments which lack of required in formations and most of all the informations are not precise too. And the limitation of human information processing show doubtful results. So the estimation of system states is regardes as fuzzy number, and its operation produces the parameter that explain the discriminability(d), decision criterion ($\beta$) of system operator's behaviors. These two values served as performance indices. Especially the $\beta$ is a good milestone of the operator's altitude degree of caution.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the fashion adopted by young women in the United States in the 1970s and to explore how the dynamic shifts toward feminist values influenced those fashion trends. Fifteen American women who were college students in the 1970s were interviewed for the study. Throughout the decade, casual and comfortable styles became more prevalent; for example, pants became widely accepted for formal occasions as well as informal occasions due to an overall emphasis on practicality. The feminist and civil rights movements along with more liberal attitudes toward religion were among the more dominant cultural values that influenced the respondents' choices in clothing styles. Feminist presentation was diverse extreme or eclectic - and constantly renegotiating itself. This study helped us better understand the dynamics involved between fashion and value changes as well as the influence of feminism on the 1970s fashion in the United States.

  • Substitution of graphic representation for extensive lists of numerical statistical data is highly desirable by both editors and readers of medical journals, faced with an exploding abundance of contemporary medical literature. A novel graphic tool. the 'double-ring diagram', is described herein which permits visual representation of information regarding certain statistical variables used to describe the performance of a test or physical sign in the diagnosis of a disease. The diagram is relatively easy to construct on the basis of a number of primary data such as the prevalence and the true positive, true negative. false positive and false negative test results. These values are reflected in the diagram along with the values of other statistical variables derived from them. such as the sensitivity. specificity, predictive values for positive and negative test result. and accuracy. This diagram may be useful in visualizing a test's performance and facilitating visual comparison of performance of two or more tests.

  • Various current events provide evidence that society is undergoing changes in perceptions of social relationships. Specifically, visual media in the form of advertisements can convey images which reflect society's values and concepts about role relationships. The purpose of this research was to examine ads in fashion magazines to determine what types of model roles and role relationships typically appear in fashion advertising which can mirror society's values. A content analysis was conducted of ads obtained from US Vogue and US GQ for the year 2002. Six kinds of roles/relationships were found: (1) Narcissism (representing self absorption), (2) sexually enticing opposite-sex relationships, (3) close/romantic same-sex relationships, (4) friend relationships, (5) family relationships, and (6) independent relationships. Of these, narcissism predominated, however, a small number of sexually provocative ads appeared as well as same-sex romantic relationships. Because sole (single) models were more typical, they also were examined to determine ways in which they relate to the audience. Characteristics examined included body presentation & pose, eye gaze, and facial expression. Direct eye gaze was the typical way to engage the audience. Gender differences were apparent: smiling was more typical of women, indifference for men. The symbolic meaning and values investigated from this research are the blurring of gender identity portrayed in homosexual imagery, family values, and the value of youth. The consistency of models' race in ads does not portray the diversity reflected in the demographic census.

  • Data obtained for sensory evaluation have a wide dispersion and fuzziness since human sensory organs are used as a means of measuring sensation instead of measuring instruments. Such dispersion and fuzziness are caused by all kinds of time error and have a great influence on the sensory evaluation, but most of previous papers not consider time errors. In this study, the comparative judgement capability of the evaluator was discriminated by means of the eigen- structure analysis on the premise that evaluation values of sensory evaluators obtained by a paired-comparison become different by the order of sample presentation.

  • This study considers style types and examines aesthetic values by analyzing images expressed through bridesmaid dresses in the movie '27 Dresses'. The research method used was a case study on fashion types from movie costumes. The conclusions of this study are as follows. There are three fashion style types in the movie '27 Dresses' presented by diverse dress type according the bride's dress code, dress style that reflects a country's culture and tradition of how bridesmaids wear traditional costumes particular to each country as well as a dress style that suits the overall wedding's atmosphere and theme. The aesthetic values of the movie '27 Dresses': First, it reflects a complementarity synergy between the bridesmaid and the bride at the wedding. It plays a complementary role in creating synergy through a harmonious presentation at the wedding. Secondly, it represents traditionality. Traditional costumes of different cultures were used as bridesmaid dresses. These costumes play an important role in denoting the bride's nationality and tradition. Third, it represents a sense of amusement using a wedding as concept. The bridesmaid dresses were unique in a way that elicited surprise and unexpected laughter as well as a feeling of pleasure and interest in the audience. The different styles of bridesmaid dresses in movie costumes can help expand more diverse wedding cultures in a modern society.

  • This paper studies the forced vibration of the hydro-elastic system consisting of the anisotropic (orthotropic) plate, compressible viscous fluid and rigid wall within the scope of the exact equations and relations of elastodynamics for anisotropic bodies for describing of the plate motion, and with utilizing the linearized exact Navier-Stokes equations for describing of the fluid flow. For solution of the corresponding boundary value problem it is employed time-harmonic presentation of the sought values with respect to time and the Fourier transform with respect to the space coordinate on the coordinate axis directed along the plate length. Numerical results on the pressure acting on the interface plane between the plate and fluid are presented and discussed. The main aim in this discussion is focused on the study of the influence of the plate material anisotropy on the frequency response of the mentioned pressure. In particular, it is established that under fixed values of the shear modulus of the plate material a decrease in the values of the modulus of elasticity of the plate material in the direction of plate length causes to increase of the absolute values of the interface pressure. The numerical results are presented not only for the viscous fluid case but also for the inviscid fluid case.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to analyse laboratory values according to fever duration, and evaluate the relationship across these values during the acute phase of Kawasaki disease (KD) to aid in the early diagnosis for early-presenting KD and incomplete KD patients. Methods: Clinical and laboratory data of patients with KD (n=615) were evaluated according to duration of fever at presentation, and were compared between patients with and without coronary artery lesions (CALs). For evaluation of the relationships across laboratory indices, patients with a fever duration of 5 days or 6 days were used (n=204). Results: The mean fever duration was $6.6{\pm}2.3days$, and the proportions of patients with CALs was 19.3% (n=114). C-reactive proteins (CRPs) and neutrophil differential values were highest and hemoglobin, albumin, and lymphocyte differential values were lowest in the 6-day group. Patients with CALs had longer total fever duration, higher CRP and neutrophil differential values and lower hemoglobin and albumin values compared to patients without CALs. CRP, albumin, neutrophil differential, and hemoglobin values at the peak inflammation stage of KD showed positive or negative correlations each other. Conclusion: The severity of systemic inflammation in KD was reflected in the laboratory values including CRP, neutrophil differential, albumin, and hemoglobin. Observing changes in these laboratory parameters by repeated examinations prior to the peak of inflammation in acute KD may aid in diagnosis of early-presenting KD patients.
