A valley and a ridge forest in Mt. Gaya area was studied to investigate forest structure in relation to altitude and part of slope. Sixty-three quadrats were set up in the valley forest along altitude of 600m to 1,000m and part of slope, and thirty-eight quadrats were set up in the ridge forest along altitude of 700m to 1,430m. According to the importance values, the valley forest was Quercus mongolica-Lespedeza maximowiczii community and the ridge forest was Pinus densiflora, Quercus mongolica-Rhododendron mucronulatum community. Similarity index between the valley forest community and the ridge forest community was 37.2%. Shannon's species diversities of the valley forest community and the ridge forest community were 1.3402 and 1.0098, respectively. According to importance values by crown stories and DCA ordination, successional trends of tree species may be from Pinus densiflora and Pinus koraiensis through Quercus mongolica to Quercus serrata and Carpinus laxiflora. As going from the lower part to upper part of the slope in the valley forest, the importance values of Quercus mongolica, Quercus aliena, Rhododendron mucronulatum and Lespedeza maximowiczii increased while those of Carpinus laxiflora and Fraxinus rhynchophylla decreased. With increasing elevation in the valley and ridge forest, the importance value of Pinus densiflora decreased while that of Quercus mongolica increased. In the valley forest, densities of canopy and shrubstratum increased as increasing elevation, and the number of species and species diversity decreased as increasing elevation and going from the lower part to the upper of slope. The range of similarity indices between parts of the slope, and the elevation belts of 100m in the valley forest were 66.6-69.2 and 25.9-79.8%, respectively. In the ridge forest, density and basal area of canopy tended to decreased as increasing elevation, and the range of similarity indices between elevation belts of 100m was 27.9-98.2%.
This study was carried out the analysis of forest vegetation structure using the phytosociological methods by Braun-Blanquet from April to November in 2006. The results were summarized as follows. The forest vegetation was classified into 23 communities and 3 forest ecosystem types such as slope forest type, valley forest type and artificial forest type. By the actual vegetation map, Quercus mongolica forest was widely distributed in the area and Pinus densiflora forest and Quercus variabilis forest in the southern parts of the slope and valley forest mainly in valley area, respectively. The importance value in the Q. mongolica forest and artificial forest was absolutely high for the species dominated in tree layer. The typical valley species of Lindera erythrocarpa and Styrax japonica were abundantly occupied in the all layers. Species diversity indices of Alnus hirsta forest was the lowest as 0.2191, and that of valley forest was about 0.9, the highest among the all forest types.
The Hwaomsa valley forest and the Piagol valley rarest in Mt. Chiri were studied to investigate forest structure and succession. Thirty plots in the Hwaomsa valley forest and thirty-nine plots in the Piagol valley forest were set up, and vegetation analysis of TWINSPAN classification and DCA ordination was carried out. The size of each plot was 20m $\times$ 25m, and the trees above 2cm DBH in each plot were measured. The Hwaomsa valley forest and the Piagol valley forest were classified into four communities and three communities by the altitude, respectively. The successional trends of major tree species seem to be from Pinus densiflora and Quercus mangalica through Quercus serrata to Carpinus spp. in the Hwaomsa valley forest. and from Quercus mongalica through Quercus serrata to Carpinus Spp. in the Piagol valley forest. The Hwaomsa valley is assumed to be interfered by the man more, and develop into the climax less than the Piagol rarest.
We classified the streamside plant community by phyto-sociological method and analyzed the relationship between environment factors and vegetation structure by using the classification and ordination method. We found that twenty one plant communities were classified according to dominant species at the natural streamside valley forest with surveying the 65 quadrats (10 m × 10 m). From the survey results, the hardwood plant communities were classified as streamside valley forest and the softwood plant communities as riparian forest according to the degree of flooding. The valley forest had a distribution of 17 plant communities which was 65% (42 quadrats) of 65 quadrats: Maackia amurensis community, Betula davurica community, Quercus variabilis community, Pinus densiflora community, Q. serrata community, Prunus sargentii community, and Meliosma oldhamii community etc. The riparian forest had a distribution of four plant communities which was 35% (23 quadrats) of 65 quadrats: Salix koreensis community, S. rorida community, S. purpurea var. japonica community, and S. glandulosa community, etc. From the two-way indicator species analysis (TWINSPAN) analysis, we found indicator species Oplismenus undulatifolius and Lindera obtusiloba for the streamside valley forest and Humulus japonicus, Phragmites japonica, and S. koreensis for the riparian forest. From the results of the canonical correspondence analysis (CCA), coordinates, altitude, and stream structure showed low correlation to the distribution of the plant community. Therefore, it seemed that valley forest and riparian forest were distinguished by the stream gradient and waterway width which determined by the stream water level.

Fairy Pittas use the forest around the valley and Gotjawal as breeding places. This survey was conducted to investigate the characteristic of earthworms, specifically its population density, body size around the breeding site in Gotjawal and the forest around the valley areas from the middle of July to the end of July 2013. A total of 405 individual earthworms were collected in the 100 small established quadrats, in which 315 were found in Gotjawal and 90 were found in the forest around the valley area. The density of earthworms in Gotjawal was significantly higher compared to that forest around the valley area. It was also observed that the body size of earthworms was significantly different between Gotjawal and the forest around the valley area. Proportion of number of individuals which are larger than 7cm in body size was 43%(n=135) in Gotjawal and 84%(n=76) in the forest around the valley area, respectively. Soil area was not important factor to the density of earthworms. We suggest that Gotjawal can be considered as a suitable breeding site for Fairy Pitta because of the richness of its primary food in this area.
This paper discusses the development of semi-automatic search program for crown delineation in stand level. The crown of an individual tree was delineated by applying the Watershed (WS) and Valley Following (VF) algorithms. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) images were used in the semi-automatic search program to delineate the crown area. The overall accuracy and Khat were used in accuracy assessment. WS algorithm's model showed the overall accuracy and Khat index of 0.80 and 0.59, respectively, in Plot 1. However, the overall accuracy and Khat of VF algorithm's model were 0.78 and 0.51, respectively, in Plot 2.
The Chuwang valley-Kumunkwangi valley forest in Chuwangsan area was studied to investigate forest structure in relation to altitude and part of slope. Forty eight quadrats were set up in the valley forest along altitude of 470m to 780m and part of the slope. Density and basal area of trees in tree strata decreased as increasing elevation. With increasing elevation the importance values of Quercus mongolica, Fraxinus rhynchophylla increased, while those of Pinus densiflora, Lindera obtussiloba decreased. As going from lower part to upper part of the slope, the importance values of Quercus valiabilis and Lindera obtussiloba increased while those of Fraxius rhynchophylla, Acer mono decreased. Species diversity tended to decreased as going to upper parts of the slope. The range of similarity indices between elevation belts, and parts of the slope were 74.4~84.2% and 68.0~96.3%, respectively. According to importance value and cluster analysis, the studied valley forest was classified into three forest communities of Pinus densiflora-deciduous tree species community of lower part of slope, Pinus densiflora-Quercus variabilis community of middle and upper part of slope, Pinus densiflora community of the top area.
Changes of annual seed production related to climate change were studied for 12 years in Piagol, a riparian valley in Mt. Jiri. Sixty-four seed traps (sized 0.5 ${\times}$ 0.5 $m^{2}$) were set up on the forest floor of surveyed area. Seeds were collected from these traps at an interval of 15 days from September to November since 1984. Vegetation of the study area was mainly consisted of the naturally regenerated Carpinus tschonoskii in the tree layer. Acer mono, Quercus serrata, Carpinus laxiflora and Symplocos chinensis also appeared in the same layer. Maximum production occurred in 1984 and 1994. As a result of comparing seed production with local climate factors for 12 years, seed productivity and the year of maximum production of Carpinus forest were merely related with precipitation, air temperature and duration of sunshine among local climate factors. Duration of sunshine was, however, not contributed to periodically high productivity of seed of riparian valley carpinus forest.

A questionnaire survey from 200 visitors and 100 residents was carried out to establish the management plan of the artificial structures constructed in valley within Bughansan National Park. According to the result of the survey respondents realized that the valley ecosystem could be damaged by artificial structures, but not pollutants of stream water. About 60 % of the respondents felt uncomfortable by artificial cement constructures and about 22 % was concerned about negative effect of valley ecosystem by the constructures. The results categorized by management body, management system and management cost indicate that the artificial constructures should be managed in terms of the safety and conservation of valley ecosystem.
To investigate the forest structure and to suggest basic data of forest in the Dogabsa Valley area of the Weolchulsan National Park, thirty plots, each size is $100m^2$, were set up and surveyed. According to the analysis of classification by TWINSPAN, the community was divided by five groups of Quercus variabilis-Carpinus tschonoskii(I), Pinus densiflora(II), Q. variabilis-P. densiflora(III), Q. variabilis(IV) and Q. aliena-Styrax japonicus community(V). The results of vegetation structure analysis, the forest of Dogabsa Valley area is a transition area of southern part of temperate forest and warm temperate forest zone. The forest is about 40-50-year-old.
