  • A DC-magnetron inline sputter was established, and the influence of the base pressure on the structural characteristics of the ITO thin films was studied. When the inline sputter system was established and operated for ITO sputtering, its initial vacuum level did not go below $5\times10^{-6}$ torr. The vacuum leak test was conducted by measuring t he elapsed time until the vacuum level reached $1\times10^{-6}$ torr. The base pressure was successfully maintained at $1\times10^{-6}$ torr for 900 min, and the uniformity of the ITO film that had been deposited at this pressure significantly improved.

  • This paper shows that the boundary image sticking can be prohibited completely by using the vacuum sealing process, which means that the residual impurities such as nitrogen or oxygen can be a critical factor inducing the boundary image sticking. The production of boundary image sticking was checked in the test panel fabricated by the $N_2$ or $O_2$ flow during the vacuum sealing process. As a result, the boundary image sticking did not appear in the case of $N_2flow$, whereas the boundary image sticking was observed in the case of $O_2$ flow even though the test panel was fabricated by the vacuum sealing process.

  • The wall of thermal vacuum chamber which is used for the satellite thermal balance test doesn't absorb satellite's IR emission perfectly and reflects some part of that. It is estimated that small thermal vacuum chamber has relatively larger wall effect than the big one. The small thermal vacuum chamber is required for the small satellite test to reduce the test cost. A quantitative analysis was carried out to investigate the chamber wall effect. As a result, temperature errors caused by chamber wall effect was calculated, and the temperature data acquired in the thermal balance test have been compensated. By defining the optimized area ratio between chamber surface and satellite surface area, the baseline to be able to determine the minimum size of thermal vacuum chamber was established to minimize the wall effect. Also, theoretical analysis about transparent material coating which can reduce the chamber wall effect is conducted.

  • A horizontal drain method, which applies vacuum pressure at the end of a horizontal drain for discharging pore water, is used often for improving surface reclaimed clay in the field. In this study, to examine the effectiveness of improving consolidation or shear strength depends by varying vacuum pressure, laboratory chamber horizontal drain test using vacuum pressure is performed and the results is compared with that of self-weight consolidation. The results show that water content reduces with the increase of soil depth in case of self-weight consolidation, while it reduces near the horizontal drain and increases with the increase of the distance from the horizontal drain in case of applying vacuum pressure. The shear strength of dredged soil was improved as well, when the vacuum pressure is applied. The optimized consolidation was achieved at the vacuum pressure range of 30 to 50kPa in the laboratory box test of 50cm wide, considering the range of drain interval in the field was between 0.7 and 1.2m.

  • Units developed for a real satellite should pass space environmental tests and launch environment tests. Thermal Vacuum Test, one of the space environmental test, simulates extreme thermal environment encountered in on-orbit operation of satellite. Many payloads which adapt non-traditional, brand-new technology are developed by developers who is not familiar to space engineering field. There might be some possibility of mistakes which result in serious problem due to lack of experience, especially from planning to performing thermal vacuum test. In this paper, brief overview of thermal environmental test related to a satellite development is summarized in order to prepare and perform the thermal test.

  • Low pressure or vacuum carburizing(LPC) has undergone major further developments since 1980 and now it has achieved industrial maturity. The advantage of low pressure vacuum carburizing over gas carburizing is not only the creation of surface entirely free of oxide and environmentally friendly but also a reduction in batch times, lower gas and energy consumption and the prevention of soot. In this study the experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of vacuum atmosphere in the heating furnace. Heat transfer rate and uniformity of temperatures of test samples in the pressure range of a few 0.1torr was examined on a test charge of 100kg. It is found that the fuel saving rate due to decreasing heating time reach to 20% in the vacuum heating mode as compared with atmospheric heating mode. Also the uniformity of temperatures in the samples was improved significantly in the vacuum heating mode. Also the effects of the RC fan for stirring atmosphere inside furnace was examined. Results shows RC fan appears to provide a reasonable tool for improving uniformity of temperature in the atmospheric heating mode.

  • The goal of this study is a stability evaluation through eigenvalue and rotor dynamics analysis of the vacuum pump. The vacuum pump used is a roots type pump, one of the dry middle vacuum pumps, is necessary at the procedure to produce semiconductor and display. The eigenvalue evaluation is solved by numerical analysis through using Modal test and 2D 3D models. Both the experiment and the analysis result are similar, the analysis result using 2D is more oculate the 3D model comparing with test result. So rotor dynamic evaluation is performed through using 2D model. Rotor dynamic evaluation used the campbell diagram and root locus map which were acquired by complex eigenvalue analysis. And we checked minimum clearance of vacuum pump composition between two rotors through unbalance response analysis. Thus, vacuum pump, the target object of this study, was evaluated to be operated stably.
