Characteristics and Fabrication of Vertical Type Organic Light Emitting Transistors

  • We have fabricated vertical type organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) using organic semiconductor materials such as F16CuPc, NTCDA, PTCDI C-8 and C60. The layers of OTFT were fabricated by vacuum evaporation technique and spin casting method onto the Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) coated glass. I-V characteristics and on-off ratios of the fabricated OTFTs were investigated. In addition, we have fabricated light emitting transistor using MEH-PPV and then investigated EL electroluminescent properties.

  • Recently, the variation of industry has been changed faster and faster than before. It is using Rapid Prototyping Method to cope with fast change. This technology used to make a prototype, master pattern of manufactured product by vacuum casting, and so on. But this method has errors by contraction as a necessity. this error has been caused because the shape of prototype is smaller than CAD data. So we must solve the problem about precision of product. Therefore in this study, we will reduce the errors like contraction of material by manufacturing of rapid prototype product. Through these courses, we will enhance a precision of product.

  • Microsystem technology (MST) which originated from semiconductor processes has been widely spreaded into tile other industry such as sensors, micro fluidics and displays. The MST, however. has been troubled in spreading with its high cost and material limitations. So, in this paper, new process for micromolding technology using silicone rubber mold was introduced. Silicone rubber mold, which was fabricated by vacuum casting. can be transferred a master pattern to a final product with the same shape but different materials. In order to verify the possibility of application of silicone rubber mold to the MST, its transferability was evaluated. and then it applied to the fabrications of polishing pad and PDP barrier ribs.

Structural Ceramics for Automobiles and Industrial Application in Japan (구조용 세라믹스의 자동차와 제조업에의 응용)

  • The status of structural ceramics in Japan is presented. Use of ceramics for structural components had been limited due to their brittleness, and the successful application was wear resistant parts such as thread guides and ceramic cutting tools up to around 1980. Since then, considerable work has been done for applying ceramics to mechanical parts, and automotive components made of silicon nitride were developed and commercialized in 1980s. Unfortunately, the application of silicon nitride to automotive engines is not so popular in these days. Instead, a variety of structural ceramics such as alumina, silicon carbide and zirconia have recently extended the market, and the expanded application includes vacuum process parts for manufacturing semiconductor and liquid crystal devices, refractory tubes for casting aluminum alloy, and dies for optical lens forming. In addition, cordierite honeycombs and diesel particulate filters are widely used in automobiles. In the present review, the recent application of structural ceramics to automobiles and industries in Japan is summarized.

PEDOT:PSS Thin Films with Different Pattern Structures Prepared Using Colloidal Template

  • Organic solar cells have attracted extensive attention as a promising approach for cost-effective photovoltaic devices. However, organic solar cell has disadvantage of low power conversion efficiency in comparison with other type of solar cell, due to the recombination ratio of hole and electron is too large in the active layer. Thus we have change the surface structure of PEDOT:PSS layers to improve the current density by colloidal lithography method using various-size of polystyrene sphere. The two types of coating method were applied to fabricate the different pattern shape and height, such as spin coating and drop casting. Using the organic solvent, we easily eliminate the PS sphere and could make the varied pattern shapes by controlling the wet etching time. Also we have measured the electrical properties of patterned PEDOT:PSS film to check whether it is suitable for organic photovoltaics.

  • To overcome the undesirable deformation, peeling off and geometrical restrictions which were mainly caused by differences in thermal expansion coefficients during the cladding of aluminum strip and stainless strip, new processing method based on vacuum die casting is designed and implemented in fabricating Al/Fe-17wt%Cr steel(stainless steel). To increase cast-bonding ability, the surface of Fe-17wt%Cr steel is electrochemically etched to have optimum pit size and density. The optimum conditions to generate best pit are as follows: Solution: 1 M $Fecl_{3}$+1 M Nacl, Addition: $CuCl_{2}+HCl$, Current density: 80 $mA/cm^{2}$, Total current: 400 $coulomb/cm^{2}$, AC frequency :60 Hz.

Study of Peel Strength Property of Aluminum/Organic Composite (알루미늄/유기물 복합재료의 Peel 강도 특성에 대한 연구)

  • Aluminum 분말과 고분자를 혼합하여 고분자-금속 복합재료(polymer-metal composite)를 만들어 copper foil과 기판의 접착력을 평가하였다. Tape casting 방법을 이용하여 sheet 만들고 vacuum lamination으로 PCB(Printed Circuit Board)기판을 제조한 후 포토공정으로 peel strength pattern을 형성하였으며, 본 연구에서는 최적의 aluminum 조건을 찾기 위하여 압력, 온도, copper foil의 표면 상태와 silane 표면 코팅에 따른 aluminum-polymer복합재료의 peel strength의 변화를 확인하였다. 최적의 조건은 silane 표면 코팅 처리를 한 aluminum 분말로 $210^{\circ}C$에서 $9.7kg/cm^2$ 압력으로 matte면의 돌기 크기가 크며, 응집이 잘 되어있는 copper foil을 사용하여 13.89N의 우수한 peel strength를 구현 할 수 있었다.

  • 실란 커플링제 종류에 따른 $SrTiO_3$/유기물 복합재료의 유전특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하여 비교하였다. 실란 커플링제는 amino계, epoxy계, methacryloxy계, acryloxy계, vinyl계를 사용하였으며, tape casting 방법으로 제작한 복합체 필름을 vacuum lamination 공정을 통하여 기판을 만들어 유전특성을 측정하였다. 실란 괴플링제의 종류에 따라 유전특성은 상이한 결과를 나타냈으며, acryloxy계를 제외한 다른 커플링제를 처리한 복합재료는 유전상수와 유전손실이 감소하는 경향을 확인할 수 있었다. Acryloxy계 커플링제를 처리한 복합재료는 커플링제가 처리되지 않은 복합재료와 비교하여 유전상수가 6%정도 증가하였며, 유전손실은 25%정도 감소하였다.

Passivation Layer (Thermosetting Film)가 형성된 유기박막 트랜지스터의전기적 특성 변화에 대한 연구

  • 본 논문에서는 외기 환경 요인 중에서 H2O와 O2의 영향으로 성능이 저하되는 유기박막트랜지스터(OTFT)의 수명시간 향상을 위하여 필요한 passivation layer의 효과에 대하여 알아 보았다. OTFT에 기존의 액상 공정이나 증착 공정으로 단일 passivation layer또는 다층 passivation layer를 형성하는 방식과는 다르게 향후에 산업 전반에 적용이 기대되는 것을 고려하여 제작 공정의 간편성을 위하여 film 형태로 되어 있는 열경화성 epoxy resin film으로 passivation layer를 구현하는 방법을 사용하여 OTFT의 storage stability를 평가하였다. passivation layer가 없는 OTFT와 열경화성 epoxy resin film으로 passivation된 OTFT의 전기적 특성이 서로 비교 평가되었으며 또한 30일 동안 온도 $25^{\circ}C$ 상대습도 40%의 환경을 갖는 Desicator 안에서 소자를 보관하여 시간에 따른 전기적 특성 변화를 검증하여 epoxy resin film의 passivation layer으로의 적용가능성을 검증하였다. 결과적으로 30일 후의 passivation layer가 없는 OTFT의 전기적 특성은 매우 낮게 떨어진 반면에 epoxy resin film으로 passivation layer가 구현된 OTFT의 mobility는 $0.060cm^2$/Vs, VT는 -0.18 V, on/off ratio는 $3.7{\times}10^3$으로 초기의 소자 특성이 잘 유지되는 결과를 얻었다. OTFT는 Flexible한 polyethersulfone (PES)기판에 게이트 전극이 하부에 있는 Bottom gate 구조로 제작되었고 채널 형성을 위한 유기반도체 재료로 6,13-bis (triisopropylsilylethynyl) (TIPS) pentacene이 사용되었고 spin coating된 Poly-4-vinylphenol (PVP)가 게이트 절연체로 사용되었다. 이때 Au전극은 Shadow mask를 이용하여 증착하였다. 또한 OTFT의 채널 길이 $100{\mu}m$, 채널 폭 $300{\mu}m$의 영역에 Drop casting법을 사용하여 채널을 형성하였다. 물리적 특성은 scanning electron microscopy (SEM), scanning probe microscopy (SPM), x-ray diffraction (XRD)를 사용하여 분석하였고, 전기적 특성은 Keithley-4200을 사용하여 추출하였다.
