울산 대기 중의 입자상, 기체상 물질의 수용성 이온 성분과 휘발성 유기화합물의 농도 (Concentrations of Water-soluble Particulate, Gaseous tons and Volatile Organic Compounds in the Ambient Air of Ulsan)

  • Ambient concentrations of gaseous, particulate phase ionic species, and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) were measured at two monitoring sites in the City of Ulsan during August 1997: one in industrial area and the other in downtown area. At each site, a three- stage filter pack sampler was used to collect fine particles and gaseous species, and air for VOC analysis was collected in stainless steel canisters. Concentrations of the ionic species at both sites were similar to each other. The VOC concentrations at the industrial site were approximately twice higher than those at the downtown site. This might be mainly due to the release of VOCs from the petrochemical industries. Daily variations of VOC concentrations at the industrial site were higher than that at the downtown site. This might be explained by the fact that emissions from industries were more irregular than those in downtown. The VOC concentrations in downtown were affected by both the local emissions and the emission from the petrochemical industries. The concentrations of selected hazardous organic components (HAPs) at the industrial site were similar to those of Yocheon industrial area but slightly higher than other cites and industrial areas, while those at the downtown site were comparable to those in other urban areas.

  • Volatile organic Compounds(VOC) were measured at an industrial site in Ulsan in 1997 and 1998. Twenty-four hour integrated ambient air samples were collected in 6 L SUMMA canisters during the periods of June 3 to 8, 1997 and June 12 to 17, 1998. The daily mean concentrations of the total $C_2-C_9$ VOC in 1998 were about one third of those in 1997. This decrease of VOC levels may be attributable to the measures to control the emissions of VOC and the decrease of the plant operation. The decrease in the concentrations of oxygenated hydrocarbons and alkenes, especially, contributed to the decrease of the total VOC concentrations in 1998. Lowever concentrations of alkenes compared to aromatics in 1998 were due to the decrease of ethylene and propylene. In the present study, methanol (12.0 ppb) was the most abundant species, followed by acetone (10.1 ppb), propane (6.0 ppb), and vinyl chloride (5.9 ppb). The total concentrations of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) in 1998 were reduced compared to those in 1997. However, this decrease is due to the drastic decrease of the concentration of methanol. Except methanol, the concentrations of HAPs have not varied much. It is suspected that the VOC control strategy for the Ulsan industrial area has been successful for reducing the total VOC levels but might not be effective in reducing the concentrations of HAPs.

대기중 휘발성유기화합물의 시간적 농도 변화에 대한 연구 (The Temporal Distribution Characteristics of Some Important VOC Species from a Nonurban Site in Naju)

  • In this study, the distribution characteristics of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were investigated on the seasonal basis across spring, summer, and fall during the year of 1998. According to this analysis, most VOC species investigated exhibited strong temporal trends. Over diurnal scale, there distribution characteristics were affected by seasonal factors strongly. While they showed high day/night ratio pattern during spring, the pattern was reversed during fall. When the seasonal mean values were compared between the two seasons, the spring values were systematically higher than their counterparts in most cases. In addition when our VOC measurement date were compared with those reported from elsewhere, we were able to conclude that the VOC levels in the study area are comparable to the level weakly impacted by the regional emissions of VOCs. Although our data are not sufficient enough to systematically explain the atmospheric distribution and behavior of VOCs, the findings of strong correlations among some of VOC species suggests strong need for investigating their interactions in the earth\`s atmosphere.

  • 식생은 자연 VOC(NVOC)의 배출원으로써 상당부분(>90%)을 차지한다. 미국의 경우에는 NVOC의 배출량이 인위적인 것의 약 1.5배-5배에 이를 것으로 추정하고 있다. 우리나라도 전국토의 약 65%가 산림으로 이루어져 있어 자연 VOC가 인위적인 VOC의 양을 훨씬 초과 할 것이라고 예측된다. 지금까지 우리나라의 배출량 산정에 사용된 NVOC 배출계수는 주로 외국의 자료에 의존하여 사용되었기 때문에 그 신뢰성에 논란의 여지가 많았다. (중략)

  • Simulations of CMAQ with the High-order Decoupled Direct Method (HDDM) for a 2010 June episode are applied to estimate the influence of local and neighborhood emissions on ozone concentrations in the Kwang-Yang Bay (KYB) area. In order to examine ozone response to reductions in $NO_x$ and VOC emissions from KYB and Gyeongsang, ozone isopleths are generated with the first and second-order sensitivity coefficients from HDDM simulations at three sites; Taein, Samil, and Gwangmoo. Simulations show that reduction in KYB $NO_x$ may increase ozone over the sites. On the contrary, $NO_x$ reduction from Gyeongsang may decrease ozone at the sites when transport of ozone and its precursors from upwind Gyeongsang is potentially high. However, VOC reductions from KYB and Gyeongsang are favorable to lower ozone over KYB. The study implies that emission reductions for both local and neighboring areas are likely more effective to bring KYB to ozone attainment.

도심지역 매립장의 VOC 성분 조성과 배출 특성에 대한 연구 (The emission of VOCs as landfill gas (LFG) from an urban landfill site)

  • 본 연구에서는 중형 규모의 매립장지역을 중심으로 환경대기 및 배출가스 중의 VOC농도를 관측하였다. 특히 배출가스에 대해 15가지 VOC성분을 GC-PID방식으로 분석하고, 이를 이용하여 15가지 성분의 탄소성분의 조성에 미치는 기여도를 평가하였다. 본 연구의 결과에 의하면, 배출가스 중의 VOC는 수 십 ppm 수준으로 일반 대기 중의 농도와 1천배 가까운 차이를 보여주었다. 따라서 배출가스와 환경대기 중의 VOC 농도에는 상당한 수준의 차이가 존재하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 자료를 이용하여, 배출량을 산정한 결과 15가지 VOC성분과 전체 비메탄계 탄화수소 (NMHC)의 배출량은 연간 8.6과 103 ton으로 계산되었다. 특히 이들 15개 VOC성분 중에서 BTEX의 기여도가 절대적으로 중요하다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Amount of regulated emissions (CO, $NO_x$, HC), and emissions of some groups of organic substances (volatile hydrocarbons, polyaromatics, and aldehydes) were measured in the standard ECE 83 test on spark ignition engine of a passenger car. The influence of the engine oil composition (mineral or fully synthetic) was examined. For both engine oils, exhaust emissions were measured with fresh oil as well as used oil at the end of the oil drain interval. Unleaded petrol and CNG were used as fuels in all experiments performed. The main conclusion made from the tests is that polyaromatics is the only part of th ε exhaust emissions that was influenced with the nature of the engine oil. Effect on the other components of emissions (aldehydes and VOC) was negligible. Emissions of polyaromatics were almost twice higher for fresh mineral as for fresh fully synthetic oil. The amount of polyaromatics in the exhaust emissions increased slightly with mileage for fully synthetic and substantially more for mineral engine oil.

포항과 구미의 대규모 산단지역 대기 중 휘발성 유기화합물 농도 분포 특성에 관한 연구 (Characterization of Atmospheric Concentrations of Volatile Organic Compounds in Industrial Areas of Pohang and Gumi Cities)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the temporal, spatial, and seasonal variations of VOC, and to characterize the VOC concentrations in two large industrial complexes located in Pohang and Gumi cities. Twenty -four hours continuous sampling of selected VOC was made with STS 25 sequential tube samplers and double-bed adsorbent tubes. Air samples were collected every three hour interval for 7 consecutive days in each site during summer and winter. VOC were determined by thermal desorption coupled with GC/MS. A total of 27 VOCs of environmental concern were determined, including aliphatic, aromatic and halides. Generally. concentrations of toxic VOC were higher in Gumi than Pohang, and VOC levels in industrial areas were typically several-fold higher than those in residential areas. The most abundant VOC appeared to be toluene for both cities. However, chlorinated VOC were higher in Gumi than Pohang, while aromatic VOC were more abundant in Pohang than in Gumi. Two cities showed relatively different variations of VOC concentrations within a day. It is likely that traffic related sources are major factors affecting the VOC in Pohang, and industrial solvents usages are important sources in Gumi. These results imply that the occurrence and levels of atmospheric VOC are strongly dependent on the type of industries in each city. Therefore, in order to develop any control strategies or to establish the priority rankings for VOC in large industrial complexes, the type of industries and the occurrence of VOC in the atmosphere should be taken into consideration.

LAEEM에 의한 전국 매립가스 발생량 추정에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Estimation of Landfill Gas Emission by LAEEM in KOREA)

  • Recently almost wastes except recycled garbage are dumped into landfill site in Korea. Landfills are significant compounds (NMOCS) are produced. NMOCS include reactive volative organic compound (VOC) and hazardous air pollutants. LAEEM (Landfill Air Emissions Estimation Model) developed by Control Technology Center, V.S. EPA is used to estimate a mount of landfill gas from all landfills. As the result, landfill gas 4,121,000 ton, carbon dioxide 2,951,000 ton, methane 1,1120,000 ton are estimated as emissions from all landfills in Korea.
