The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Doin Gigong Exercise program on HRV in elderly women. This study was one group in a pre-test / post-test desgian with repeated measures. The experimental group of 27 patients were selected through sampling from H-public health center in the P-city. The subjects received Doin Gigong Exercise twice a week for 50 minutes for 12 weeks. All of the subjects were examined on the congnition assessment tool. Prior and post surveys were measured before and after the experiment. Among the stress assessment, RRV tachogram's 'mean RR' was very significantly increased after Qigong Exercise(p<0.01), and the 'mean HRV' was significantly decreased after Qigong Exercise(p<0.05). But the SDNN was not significantly increased after Qigong Exercise. And TP(RRV power's total power) was significantly increased after Qigong Exercise(p<0.01). VLF and HF was significantly increased, and LF was significantly decreased after Qigong Exercise(p<0.05). In the RRV's Phase Plot, RMSSD and SDSD were significantly increased after Qigong Exercise(0.05). As mentioned above; the oriental medicine Qigong Exercise program was identified the effects of the heart rate and anti-stress.
Correct prediction of emotion is essential for developing advanced health devices. For this purpose, neural network has been successfully used. However, interpretation of how a certain emotion is predicted through the emotion prediction neural network is very tough. When interpreting mechanism about how emotion is predicted by using the emotion prediction neural network can be developed, such mechanism can be effectively embedded into highly advanced health-care devices. In this sense, this study proposes a novel approach to interpreting how the emotion prediction neural network yields emotion. Our proposed mechanism is based on HRV (heart rate variability) measurements, which is based on calculating physiological data out of ECG (electrocardiogram) measurements. Experiment dataset with 23 qualified participants were used to obtain the seven HRV measurement such as Mean RR, SDNN, RMSSD, VLF, LF, HF, LF/HF. Then emotion prediction neural network was modelled by using the HRV dataset. By applying the proposed mechanism, a set of explicit mathematical functions could be derived, which are clearly and explicitly interpretable. The proposed mechanism was compared with conventional neural network to show validity.
Objectives : We performed this study to analyze correlation among hair tissue minaral ratio, autonomic function and obesity. Methods : Subjects were gathered from January 2005 to March 2007. This study was carried out on 263 subjects who had visited Garosero oriental clinic and had no previous cardiovascular disease and thyroid disease. Heart rate variability (HRV) parameters, tissue mineral ratio and obesity degree were statistically compared with correlation and T-test analysis. Results : The results of this study are summarized as follows : 1. Normal group were predominant over obesity group in HRV parameters(SDNN, RMSSD, VLF, LF, HF). 2. Ca/P, Ca/K, Na/K and Fe/Cu, Na/Mg ratio in hair tissue mineral ratio have correlation with BMR, BMI and waist circumference. 3. Ca/P ratio has correlation with LF norm in HRV, and Na/K with HF, Na/Mg with LF, equally. Conclusions : Taken together these results may suggest that there are significant relationships between hair tissue mineral analysis and HRV.
In this paper, we compare three mehods to obtain PSD of HRV - FFT, AR modeling, and residual integration. Using these methods we speculate the balances of the LP and HF powers of HRV at $0^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$ tilt levels of head-up tilt table for young and healthy 24 men. R peaks are located at the highest point of QRS complex detected from modified spacial velocity algorithm. In general FFT is the most fast way to obtain PSD but PSD from FFT has too many peaks and valleies. AR PSD can show frequency of ANS activity effectively but LF component of PSD is often invisible due to interference of VLF power. The residual integration method that decomposes the AR PSD is very efficient way to extract LF component. Applying the above three methods to HRV we can visualize the trend of PSD variations along tilt levels.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine whether heart rate variability (HRV) and pulse wave of cancer patients can be used as indicators of their health status and prognosis. Methods: We retrospectively compared HRV, pulse wave and body mass index (BMI) of cancer patients and healthy individuals who visited W hospital from November of 2020 to October of 2021. Results: As a result of comparing HRV and pulse wave parameters between cancer patients and healthy subjects, among HRV indices, mean heart rate (MHR), standard deviation of normal to normal (SDNN) and total power (TP), very low frequency (VLF) showed significant differences between two groups. Cancer patients' pulse wave parameters showed more rapid and superficial than that of healthy subjects. Also, cancer patients weighed less and had lower BMI. Conclusion: For increased MHR, decreased SDNN, rapid and superficial pulse wave can be indicators of poor prognosis of cancer patients, keep monitoring HRV and pulse wave can help to manage patients efficiently.
Objectives : The objective of this study was to investigate the correlation between swallowing acid symptom and autonomic nerve system in dyspepsia patients. Methods : The test for heart rate variability (HRV) was done to 50 dyspepsia patients at the Department of Internal Medicine, Kang-Nam Kyung-Hee Korean Hospital. 21 among 50 patients had swallowing acid symptom and 29 didn't. We checked HRV and compared HRV index between the two groups. We also divided the patients into functional dyspepsia and organic dyspepsia groups, and then checked HRV respectively. Results were as follows : 1. In dyspepsia patients with swallowing acid, LF/HF ratio was higher than the dyspepsia patients without swallowing acid but the result was not statistically significant. 2. TP, LF, VLF, and LF/HF ratio was higher in the functional dyspepsia group than in the organic dyspepsia group. Average age in the organic dyspepsia group was significantly higher than in the other group. Both results showed statistically significant difference. 3. In the functional dyspepsia group, LF/HF ratio was significantly higher in patients with swallowing acid symptom than those without. However, in eructation and nausea symptoms, HRV index was not statistically significant. Conclusion : This study shows the ratio of sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve system increased in the swallowing acid patient group compared with the non-swallowing acid patient group in functional dyspepsia patients.
Underwater communication is necessarily useful for various application domains such as saving of human lives from underwater disasters, marine resource exploration, underwater military fields, underwater environment or ecosystem monitoring, fish farm monitoring and management, etc. Even though the acoustic wave has been the main underwater communication media until now, several media such as optical waves, VLF/ELF waves, magnetic fields, and infrared rays also began to be treated as possible media for underwater communication. If these underwater communicate-possible media are used mixing together, the underwater communication can be much more reliable and efficient through complementing the disadvantages of each communication media with advantages of other communication media. In fact, mixing and using multi-media for underwater communication requires the data flow control in the connection process of different media due to their communication speed gaps and bandwidth differences, and, specially, in the flow control, the appropriate message fragmentation technique is required inevitably. For this reason, this paper presents a fragmentation framework and technique necessary to the flow control in the underwater multi-media communication. In addition, through its implementation and experiments, this paper shows the feasibility on the realization of the multi-media based underwater communication.
Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the characteristics of the autonomic innervation of the heart in Precocious Puberty (PP) Girls. Methods: We studied 87 girls visiting Dongshin University Suncheon Oriental Medicine hospital from first Januarty 2013 to 31th December 2015. Among the 87 girls who were selected 14 people under the age of 8. The subjects were categorized in two groups, 2 PP girls and 12 healthy controls. We studied the difference of Heart rate variability (HRV) between two groups by Independent samples T-test using SPSS for windows (version 22.0).Results: The Standard deviation of all normal R-R intervals (SDNN), The spuare root of the sum of the spuare of difference between adjacent normal R-R intervals (RMS-SD) of PP group was non-significantly lower than non-PP group. Total power (TP), Very low frequency power (VLF), High frequency power (HF), Low frequency power (LF) of PP group was non-significantly lower than non-PP group, LF/HF ratio of PP group was significantly higher than non-PP group. Normalized high frequency power (HF norm) of PP group was non-significantly lower than non-PP group. Normalized low frequency power (LF norm) of PP was non-signficantly higher than non-PP group. Conclusion: The results suggest that imbalance of sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system from girls of precocious puberty can be seen.
Objectives: Although the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is thought to play an important role in treatment of obesity, no study has been conducted to investigate acupuncture's effects on this aspect of the ANS. This study aimed to describe the effects of acupuncture in the ANS by means of heart rate variability (HRV) analysis. Methods: A total of 46 obese women aged from 21 to 54 with body mass index ranging from 25.1 to $39.3kg/m^2$ were recruited and randomized into both the real acupuncture group (n=23) and sham acupuncture group (n=23). A total of 3 instances of HRV analysis were conducted before, during, and after treatment. Statistically significant differences between time and groups were analyzed using repeated measure analysis of variance. Results: All parameters of time domain analysis and frequency domain analysis except for the square root of the mean squared differences of successive normal sinus intervals (RMSSD) and very low frequency (VLF) showed significant differences between times. The mean of all R-R intervals (mean RR) showed significant level of interaction between time and group. Between groups, time domain analysis of standard deviation of the normal-to-normal intervals (SDNN), RMSSD and frequency domain analysis of total power (TP) and high frequency (HF) showed significant differences. Conclusions: The real acupuncture group showed deactivation of parasympathetic function and relative increase of sympathetic activity in obese subjects. Further studies are necessary to uncover the mechanisms of acupuncture in obesity treatment.
The fatigue strength analysis of VLFS is carried out by using a 3-dimensional plate finite element model with a zooming technology which performs the modeling of wide portions of the structure by a coarse mesh but the concerned parts by a very fine mesh of t by t level. And a stepwise substructure modeling technique for global loading conditions is applied which uses the motion response of the global structure from 2-D plate hydroelastic analysis as the enforcing nodal displacements of the concern 3-D structural zooming model. Seven incident wave angles and whole ranges of frequency domains of wave spectrum are considered. In order to consider the effect of breakwater, the modified JONSWAP wave spectrum is used. Applying the wave data of installation region, the longterm spectrum analysis is done based on stochastic process and the fatigue life of the structure is estimated. Finally some design considerations from the view point of fatigue strength analysis of VLFS are discussed.
