  • This paper presents implementation possibilities of digital IoT doorlock systems via VLC(Visible Light Communication)'s color grid. The color grid-based VLC modulation scheme which are discussed in this paper utilize the straightness of light and abundant frequency resources which are the properties of the light. Performance results in this paper are compared to that of conventional modulations with Bit Error Rate (BER) and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) simulations. With respect to a channel model, the proposed modulation schemes select the nearest Line Of Sight (LOS) except Non Line Of Sight (NLOS). Experiments in this paper show error rates of received symbols by changing power dB at a distance of 3m between Tx and Rx in an indoor environment. Through performance results and experiments, this paper demonstrates superiority of the proposed color grid-based modulation schemes.

  • There is a high demand for energy efficiency improvement of factories that make up a large part of national electric energy. Therefore, research on smart FEMS technology for monitoring, analyzing and controlling energy consumption patterns is under way, but there is still a lack of research on detailed element technology for communication and control inside the factory. In this paper, we proposed OFDM VLC system based on MODBUS protocol for communication between gateways, sensors, and devices to implement smart FEMS in indoor factory environment. Assuming a conveyor belt load control, we validated the proposed system by simulating the inverter motor control and checking the performance.

  • Recently, the Green IT is noticed because of the effects of greenhouse gas emissions, a drain on natural resources and pollution. In this paper, Visible Light Communication (VLC) systems with Turbo Coded scheme using LED is proposed and simulated in an optical wireless channel. As a forward error correction scheme to reduce information losses, turbo coding was employed. To decode the codewords, The Map (Maximum a Posteriori) algorism and SOVA (Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm) is used. The above mentioned schemes are described and simulation results are analyzed. As using turbo codes scheme, BER performance of proposed VLC systems is improved about 5 [dB].

  • In this paper, we explore a low-complex bandwidth allocation (BA) scheme with multi-level service guarantees in VLC-OFDM systems. Effective capacity theory, which evaluates wireless channel capacity from a novel view, is utilized to model the system capacity under delay QoS constraints of the link layer. Since intensity modulation of light is used in the system, problems caused by frequency selectivity can be neglected. Then, the BA problem can be formulated as an integer programming problem and it is further relaxed and transformed into a concave one. Lagrangian formulation is used to reformulate the concave problem. Considering the inefficiency of traditional gradient-based schemes and the demand for distributed implementation in local area networks, we localize the global parameters and propose a quasi-distributed quadratic allocation algorithm to provide two-level service guarantees, the first level is QoS oriented, and the second level is QoE oriented. Simulations have shown the efficient performance of the proposed algorithm. The users with more stringent QoS requirements require more subcarriers to guarantee their statistical delay QoS requirements. We also analyze the effect of subcarrier granularity on the aggregate effective capacity via simulations.

  • This paper analyzed the PHY technology of IEEE 802.15.7 which is a technology trend and international standard of the LED-based VLC communication system. Also, the study analyzed the complexity of the system as well as the reception performance in a visible light wireless channel environment by analyzing detailed technology of PHY I mode and designing the RS code and block interleaver. According to the result, concerning PHY I which is operated in a single mode, it was confirmed that the complexity in designing the system was higher compared with an environment of the transmission of a short massage. Also it was confirmed that in a multi-path visible light channel environment, the reception SNR=1.5dB was required additionally.

  • In this paper, we developed a new method to transmit multiple visible light channels in time division mode using the AC power line frequency in order to prevent the crosstalk between adjacent optical signals. Synchronizing pulses are generated from the 220 V power line, and one pulse period is subdivided into several time slots for visible light channels. Each channel transmits data in a predefined time slot without interfering adjacent channels. In experiments, synchronizing pulses with a repetition rate of 240 Hz were generated from the 60 Hz power line, and three VLC channels with a bit rate of 9.6 kbps transmitted data independently using the time slots between synchronizing pulses. This configuration is very useful in constructing time division VLC networks for multiple sensors.

  • In this paper, we discuss recovery schemes for errors occurring when image data encoded with variable length coding (VLC) is transmitted through additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and multiple-access interference in direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems. VLC such as JPEG is so sensitive to channel errors that severe degradation in decoded images occurs even if only one or two bits have errors. This is due to the loss of synchronization at the image decoder. We propose a resynchronization scheme using a power allocation method in wireless DS/CDMA transmission. Through simulation, we know that the proposed method has a more robust resynchronization capability and higher objective and subjective quality than the conventional method.

  • This paper proposes a novel beehive-shaped reflector for application to light-emitting diode (LED) transceivers for illumination and bi-directional visible light communication (VLC). By using a diffuse propagation model extended to line-of-sight and direct signals, the distribution of illuminance and the path loss of the transceiver are investigated to evaluate the performance of the beehive-shaped reflector. To verify bi-directional communication, a VLC-based image capture system, comprising a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor and video processor unit, is demonstrated. Real-time images captured by the CMOS camera are successfully transmitted to the monitoring system via a free-space channel at a rate of 115.2 kbps.

  • White light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are more economical than fluorescent lights, and provide high brightness, a high lifetime expectancy, and greater durability. As LEDs are closely connected with people's daily lives, dimming control of LED is an important component in providing energy savings and improving quality of life. In visible light communications systems using these LEDs, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) technology has attracted a lot of attention, in that it can attain the channel capacity in proportion to the number of antennas. This paper analyzes the power performance of three kinds of modulation in visible light communications (VLC) systems applied space-time block code (STBC) techniques. The modulation schemes are return-to-zero on-off keying (RZ-OOK), variable pulse position modulation (VPPM), and overlapping pulse position modulation (OPPM), and dimming control was applied. The power requirements and power consumption were used as metrics to compare the power efficiency in $2{\times}2$ STBC-VLC environments under the three kinds of modulation. We confirm that dimming control affects the communications performance of each modulation scheme. VPPM showed greater consumption among the three modulations, and OPPM showed energy savings comparable to VPPM.

  • In this paper, we propose VLC(visible light communication) based multi-hop multimedia data transmission system. The main contributions and features of the proposed system are as follows. First, the contribution of this research is to develope the LED communication based multi-hop transmission network system which can transmit multimedia data(audio data, video data) with long distance. Second, the developed system has the following features: In transmitter, audio data and video data are transmitted via multi-hops using two channels. The relay in audio channel receives digital audio signal by using photo diode and then transmits the signal to receiver after error checking and amplifying. The receiver receives the encoded audio data via photo diode and then converts to analog audio signal by using decoding and amplifying. The relay in video channel receives video signal by using photo diode and then amplify the video signal using OP-AMP and then transmits the signal to receiver. The receiver amplifies the received signal from photo diode and then sends it to the monitor. The performance evaluation of the proposed system is conducted in the laboratory with fluorescent light source. The results of the performance evaluation confirm that the system can provide high quality multimedia data transmission from transmiter to receiver via multi-hop relays in a long distance while we can see there are differences in the transmitted multimedia(audio and video) quality according to the used LED colors.
