  • LED is in the spotlight as next generation's lighting due to the fact that it has good efficiency on converting electricity to light and has long life time. Recently it expands the scope up to taillight of car, signal lamp and indoor light. Additionally it can send data information simultaneously with lighting, which is called lighting-communication convergence. In this paper, the channel characteristics of LED wireless communication is studied in the condition that indoor is latticed with 1mm span and photons started from LED are firstly arrived at each lattice after that these move as straight line before meeting photodiode(PD).

  • If visible light communication is to be used against large background noise in indoor environment, low frequency noise should be avoided. To maintain the advantages of LED lighting while transmitting signals, LEDs should be dimmable and free from flickering effect. In this paper, the spectrum of transmission signal is shifted toward high frequency for this purpose. Specifically, we propose a subpulse-VPPM scheme, which can be designed using only digital components, and we implement a test-bed for performance measurement.

  • Visible light communications (VLC) uses modern solid-state LEDs to broadcast information. Emerging white-light LEDs allows the combination of lighting and optical wireless communication in one optical source. In this paper, a new LED lighting using one-chip-type white LED is proposed for efficient illumination and optical wireless communications. Performance analysis such as horizontal illuminance, 3-dB cut-off frequency, inter-symbol interference, signal-to-noise ratio and bit-error rate shows the effects of the shapes of LED lighting. Performance of the proposed LED lighting under the existence of obstacles is superior to that of the existing LED lighting in illumination and optical wireless communication.

  • Multiplexing information over parallel data channels based on RF MIMO concept is possible to achieve considerable data rates over large transmission ranges with just a single transmitting element. Visual multiplexing MIMO techniques will send independent streams of bits using the multiple elements of the light transmitter array and recording over a group of camera pixels can further enhance the data rates. The proposed system is a combination of the reliance on computer vision algorithms for tracking and OOK cell frame modulation. LED array are controlled to transmit message in the form of digital information using ON-OFF signaling with ON-OFF pulses (ON = bit 1, OFF = bit 0). A camera captures image frames of the array which are then individually processed and sequentially decoded to retrieve data. To demodulated data transmission, a motion tracking algorithm is implemented in OpenCV (Open source Computer Vision library) to classify the transmission pattern. One of the most advantages of proposed architecture is Computer Vision (CV) based image analysis techniques which can be used to spatially separate signals and remove interferences from ambient light. It will be the future challenges and opportunities for mobile communication networking research.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fitness of 4 kinds of resin record base materials. The record base materials used on the edentulous cast in this study were Triad VLC resin (Dentsply International Inc., U.S.A.), custom tray resin (Kerr Ltd., U.S.A.), heat-cure resin (Dentimex Co., Holland), and self-cure resin (Dentimex Co., Holland). The gap width between record base and cast were measured in the ridge crest and midpalatal area with microhardness tester. The results obtained were as follows : 1. Among the 4 kinds of record base, heat-cure Vertex fitted best on the cast. Triad and Fomatray fitted better than self-cure Vertex. Self-cure Vertex had the poorest fit. 2. The quality of the fit of the record base varied at different locations on the cast. The record base fit better in the ridge crest than midpalatal area. 3. In the midpalatal area, there's no significant difference in the fit of Fomatray, Triad and heat-cure Vertex. They all fit better than self-cure Vertex. 4. In the ridge crest, heat-cure Vertex fit better than any other record base.

  • LED-ID (Light Emitting Diode - Identification) is one of the key technologies for identification, data transmission, and illumination simultaneously. This is the new paradigm in the identification technology environment. There are many issues are still now challenging to achieve high performance in LED-ID system. Collision issue is one of them. Actually this is the most significant issue in all identification system. LED-ID system also suffers from collision problem. In our system, collision occurs when two or more readers transmit data to tag at the same time or vice versa. There are many anti-collision protocols to resolve this problem; such as: Slotted ALOHA, Basic Frame Slotted ALOHA, Query Tree, Tree Splitting, and Q-Algorithm etc. In this paper, we propose modified Q-Algorithm to resolve collision at tag. The proposed protocol is based on Q-Algorithm and used the information of arrived readers to a tag from neighbor. The information includes transmitting slot number of readers and the number of readers that can be arrived in next slot. Our proposed protocol can reduce the numbers of collision slot and the successful time to identify all readers. In this paper our simulation and theoretical results are presented.

  • Visible light communication (VLC) performs illumination and communication simultaneously, thus it is important to prevent the flicker due to the optical power variation during data transmission and at the same time to have dimming control capability. In this paper, we used Manchester code for flicker-prevention and dimming control. In the transmitter, the duty factor of the Manchester code was used for controlling the LED illumination. In the receiver, the edge-spike signals of an RC-high pass filter were used for recovering the Manchester code while preventing the adjacent noise light. In experiments, the LED light was kept flicker-free and the average optical power was controlled in the range of 8~68 % of the continuous wave (CW) LED light by changing the duty factor of the Manchester code.

  • Visible light communication (VLC) using optical sources which can be simultaneously utilized for illumination and communication is currently an attractive option for wireless personal area network. Improving the data rate in optical wireless communication system is challenging due to the limited bandwidth of the optical sources. In this paper, we design the singular value decomposition (SVD)-based multiplexing multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system to support two data streams in optical wireless channels. In order to improve the spectral efficiency, the rate adaptation using multi-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) is applied according to the channel condition and we propose the method to allocate the optical power, the offset and the size of modulation scheme theoretically under the constraints of the nonnegativity of the modulated signals, the aggregate optical power and the bit error rate (BER) requirement. The simulation results show that the proposed allocation method gives the better performance than the method to allocate the optical power equally for each data stream.

  • A macroblock(MB) in MPEG coded domain can have zero, one, or two motion vectors depending on its frame type and prediction direction (forward-, backward-, or hi-directionally). In this paper, we propose a method that converts these motion vectors on MPEG coded domain as a uniform set, independent of the frame type and the direction of prediction, and directly utilizes these re-analyzed motion vectors for understanding video contents. Also, using this frame-type-independent motion vector, we propose novel methods for detecting and tracking moving objects with frame-based detection accuracy on the compressed domain. These algorithms are performed directly from the MPEG bitstreams after VLC decoding with little time consumption. Experimental results show validity and outstanding performance of our methods.

  • In this paper, we propose indoor IoT monitoring system based on visible light communication using smart phone with attracting attentions in recent wireless communication. The main features and contributions of the proposed system developed in this paper are as follows. First, the actual data generated within indoor can be processed via the server by using only the visible light communication. Second, the collected data by using the visible light communication can be monitered by smart phone. Performance evaluation of the proposed system is performed under illumination of the normal fluorescent lamps. We first check successful transmission between transmitting module and receiving module of the data collection system. The monitoring system is tested according to the change of the degree of condensing and distance of the LED and the decoding success rate of the proposed smart phone application. We expect that the proposed system can be applied for indoor and outdoor IoT areas together.
