  • In this paper, we make plans for facilities, the 8-VSB DTV transmission system, installed in the near future, based on presently NTSC TV operating it. First of all we estimate transmission power for analog NTSC, digital 8-VSB terrestrial broadcasting and the effective condition of optimal receiving power result from it. It's also to estimate optimal receiving condition by using Longley-Rice's Field Strength calculating method that is to guess a profile between transmitting station and many receiving points. The 8-VSB DTV Propagation aims to high-speed transmission rates of 19.39Mbps datum to enable HDTV(High Definition Television) at NTSC 6MHz bandwidth. First of all, an optimization of field strength between transmission station and receiver must deal with considerable. Because of these reasons, 8-VSB DTV transmission needs effective extension for NTSC TV service coverage. Finally we present the transmitting output that is expected in changing NTSC VHF to DTV UHF for maintaining the transmitting output of NTSC TV that is equal to 8-VSB DTV in service coverage.

  • It designs the general description of 8-VSB DTV transmission system will be installed and operated in future on the basis of NTSC TV transmission system in operation now. First of all, it investigates a condition that can maintain optimum received field in case of ground wave broadcasting with analog NTSC and digital 8-VSB DTV. Also it calculates critical value of minimum field strength fur receiving by using field strength calculation method of Longley-Rice. The 8-VSB DTV transmission sets its goal in transmission of data with 19.39Mbps at high speed in order to be available of HDTV in the band of NTSC 6MHz. Accordingly, the optimum of field strength between transmission and receiving points most of all is important problem. So,8-VSB DTV transmission should be enlarged or effective compared with NTSC service coverage. This study is to calculate the transmission power necessary in switching from NTSC VHF to DTV UHF and from NTSC UHF to DTV UHF for maintaining service coverage that NTSC is equal to 8-VSB DTV as a result of calculation.

  • Tactical communication radio systems that employ software defined radios(SDRs) have been developed for achieving high-speed data transmissions and voice communications. Such systems possess multiband and multichannel features, and can potentially replace several existing radio systems. This paper proposes a design for wideband antennas by incorporating a diplexer matching network for tactical vehicles. The proposed antenna design includes two radiators(upper and lower) and a diplexer matching network connected to the end of the feed line such that the LC matching networks are interleaved in the lower radiator and spring mount. By employing the diplexer matching network, the designed antenna can perform wideband impedance matching for the fifty ohm feed line. The designed LC networks aid in varying the effective electrical length of the antenna according to the operation frequency. The primary objective behind adjusting the electrical length is to vary the current distribution above and below the LC networks. The proposed antenna was fabricated and tested in an open site. The obtained evaluation results show that the designed antenna can achieve a relative bandwidth of 190% with a VSWR value of 3.5:1, and can attain good antenna gains over VHF and UHF bands.

  • Because characteristics of diversity, large-scale and unpredictability of disaster are very difficult to make predict of disaster, rapid disaster response activity is important to reduce damage from disaster. Therefore emergency communication technology is essential to information sharing between field personnel in the field. Because the heterogeneous radios defined as some of 100MHz VHF, 400MHz UHF, and 800MHz emergency communication RF band are used in Korea, the field personnels need to have multiple radios. In order to use one radio per personnel, radio voice intercommunication is very necessary. We study on modular 3-Band RF to communicate between heterogeneous radios through single multi-band antenna and verify scalable of the number of equipped radios.

  • Since 1996, KEPCO has been operating a wide range lightning detection system, LPATS, and been accumulating relative application technics and statistical analysis skills. So, KEPRI already has its own basis to develope more accurate advanced detection technology and references to do comparative study. For Three-dimensional imaging of lightning channels, UHF/VHF antenna systems were installed at 2 sites. The distance between two sites is about 30 km. In this paper, we would like to introduce about our system and its results.

  • Scientific CubeSat with Instruments for Global Magnetic Fields and Radiations (SIGMA) is a 3-U size CubeSat that will be operated in low earth orbit (LEO). The SIGMA communication system uses a very high frequency (VHF) band for uplink and an ultra high frequency (UHF) band for downlink. Both frequencies belong to an amateur band. The ground station that communicates with SIGMA is located at Kyung Hee Astronomical Observatory (KHAO). For reliable communication, we carried out a laboratory (LAB) test and far-field tests between the CubeSat and a ground station. In the field test, we considered test parameters such as attenuation, antenna deployment, CubeSat body attitude, and Doppler frequency shift in transmitting commands and receiving data. In this paper, we present a communication performance test of SIGMA, a link budget analysis, and a field test process. We also compare the link budget with the field test results of transmitting commands and receiving data.
