Accurate estimation of human pose relies on backbone method in which its role is to extract feature map. Up to dated, the method of backbone feature extraction is conducted by the plain convolutional neural networks named by CNN and the residual neural networks named by Resnet, both of which have various architectures and performances. The CNN family network such as VGG which is well-known as a multiple stacked hidden layers architecture of deep learning methods, is base and simple while Resnet which is a bottleneck layers architecture yields fewer parameters and outperform. They have achieved inspired results as a backbone network in human pose estimation. However, they were used then followed by different pose estimation networks named by pose parsing module. Therefore, in this paper, we present a comparison between the plain CNN family network (VGG) and bottleneck network (Resnet) as a backbone method in the same pose parsing module. We investigate their performances such as number of parameters, loss score, precision and recall. We experiment them in the bottom-up method of human pose estimation system by adapted the pose parsing module of openpose. Our experimental results show that the backbone method using VGG network outperforms the Resent network with fewer parameter, lower loss score and higher accuracy of precision and recall.

Detecting the icing on wind turbine blades built-in cold regions with conventional methods is always a very laborious, expensive and very difficult task. Regarding this issue, the use of smart systems has recently come to the agenda. It is quite possible to eliminate this issue by using the deep learning method, which is one of these methods. In this study, an application has been implemented that can detect icing on wind turbine blades images with visualization techniques based on deep learning using images. Pre-trained models of Resnet-50, VGG-16, VGG-19 and Inception-V3, which are well-known deep learning approaches, are used to classify objects automatically. Grad-CAM, Grad-CAM++, and Score-CAM visualization techniques were considered depending on the deep learning methods used to predict the location of icing regions on the wind turbine blades accurately. It was clearly shown that the best visualization technique for localization is Score-CAM. Finally, visualization performance analyses in various cases which are close-up and remote photos of a wind turbine, density of icing and light were carried out using Score-CAM for Resnet-50. As a result, it is understood that these methods can detect icing occurring on the wind turbine with acceptable high accuracy.

Rice is an important food crop for most of the population in the world and it is largely cultivated in Pakistan. It not only fulfills food demand in the country but also contributes to the wealth of Pakistan. But its production can be affected by climate change. The irregularities in the climate can cause several diseases such as brown spots, bacterial blight, tungro and leaf blasts, etc. Detection of these diseases is necessary for suitable treatment. These diseases can be effectively detected using deep learning such as Convolution Neural networks. Due to the small dataset, transfer learning models such as vgg16 model can effectively detect the diseases. In this paper, vgg16, inception and xception models are used. Vgg16, inception and xception models have achieved 99.22%, 88.48% and 93.92% validation accuracies when the epoch value is set to 10. Evaluation of models has also been done using accuracy, recall, precision, and confusion matrix.
Design is a key factor that determines the competitiveness of products in the textile and fashion industry. It is very important to measure the similarity of the proposed design in order to prevent unauthorized copying and to confirm the originality. In this study, a deep learning technique was used to quantify features from images of textile designs, and similarity was measured using Spearman correlation coefficients. To verify that similar samples were actually detected, 300 images were randomly rotated and color changed. The results of Top-3 and Top-5 in the order of similarity value were measured to see if samples that rotated or changed color were detected. As a result, the VGG-16 model recorded significantly higher performance than did AlexNet. The performance of the VGG-16 model was the highest at 64% and 73.67% in the Top-3 and Top-5, where similarity results were high in the case of the rotated image. appear. In the case of color change, the highest in Top-3 and Top-5 at 86.33% and 90%, respectively.
Early detection and classification of crop diseases play significant role to help farmers to reduce disease spread and to increase agricultural productivity. Recently, many researchers have used deep learning techniques like convolutional neural network (CNN) classifier for crop disease inspection with dataset of crop leaf images (e.g., PlantVillage dataset). These researches present over 90% of classification accuracy for crop diseases, but they have ability to detect only the pre-trained diseases. This paper proposes an efficient disease inspection CNN model for new crops not used in the pre-trained model. First, we present a benchmark crop disease classifier (CDC) for the crops in PlantVillage dataset using VGG16. Then we build a modified crop disease classifier (mCDC) to inspect diseases for untrained crops. The performance evaluation results show that the proposed model outperforms the benchmark classifier.

Malaria is a disease caused by a parasite and it is prevalent in all over the world. The usual method used to recognize malaria cells is a thick and thin blood smears examination methods, but this method requires a lot of manual calculation, so the efficiency and accuracy are very low as well as the lack of pathologists in impoverished country has led to high malaria mortality rates. In this paper, a malaria cell image recognition model using transfer learning is proposed, which consists in the feature extractor, the residual structure and the fully connected layers. When the pre-training parameters of the VGG-19 model are imported to the proposed model, the parameters of some convolutional layers model are frozen and the fine-tuning method is used to fit the data for the model. Also we implement another malaria cell recognition model without residual structure to compare with the proposed model. The simulation results shows that the model using the residual structure gets better performance than the other model without residual structure and the proposed model has the best accuracy of 97.33% compared to other recent papers.
There is a growing interest in facial age estimation because many applications require age estimation techniques from facial images. In order to estimate the exact age of a face, a technique for extracting aging features from a face image and classifying the age according to the extracted features is required. Recently, the performance of various CNN-based deep learning models has been greatly improved in the image recognition field, and various CNN-based deep learning models are being used to improve performance in the field of facial age estimation. In this paper, age estimation performance was compared by learning facial features based on various CNN-based models such as AlexNet, VGG-16, VGG-19, ResNet-18, ResNet-34, ResNet-50, ResNet-101, ResNet-152. As a result of experiment, it was confirmed that the performance of the facial age estimation models using ResNet-34 was the best.
Understanding actions in videos is an important task. It helps in finding the anomalies present in videos such as fights. Detection of fights becomes more crucial when it comes to sports. This paper focuses on finding fight scenes in Hockey sport videos using blur & radon transform and convolutional neural networks (CNNs). First, the local motion within the video frames has been extracted using blur information. Next, fast fourier and radon transform have been applied on the local motion. The video frames with fight scene have been identified using transfer learning with the help of pre-trained deep learning model VGG-Net. Finally, a comparison of the methodology has been performed using feed forward neural networks. Accuracies of 56.00% and 75.00% have been achieved using feed forward neural network and VGG16-Net, respectively.
In this paper, we compare and analyze the classification performance of deep learning algorithm Convolutional Neural Network(CNN) ac cording to ensemble generation and combining techniques. We used several CNN models(VGG16, VGG19, DenseNet121, DenseNet169, DenseNet201, ResNet18, ResNet34, ResNet50, ResNet101, ResNet152, GoogLeNet) to create 10 ensemble generation combinations and applied 6 combine techniques(average, weighted average, maximum, minimum, median, product) to the optimal combination. Experimental results, DenseNet169-VGG16-GoogLeNet combination in ensemble generation, and the product rule in ensemble combination showed the best performance. Based on this, it was concluded that ensemble in different models of high benchmarking scores is another way to get good results.

In this paper, we propose an improved learning method based on a small data set for animal image classification. First, CNN creates a training model for a small data set and uses the data set to expand the data set of the training set Second, a bottleneck of a small data set is extracted using a pre-trained network for a large data set such as VGG16 and stored in two NumPy files as a new training data set and a test data set, finally, learn the fully connected network as a new data set.
