Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks are self-organizing Peer-to-Peer networks that typically have highly mobile vehicle nodes, moving at high speeds, very short-lasting and unstable communication links. VANETs are formed without fixed infrastructure, central administration, and dedicated routing equipment, and network nodes are mobile, joining and leaving the network over time. So, VANET-security is very vulnerable for the intrusion of malicious and misbehaving nodes in the network, since VANETs are mostly open networks, allowing everyone connect, without centralized control. In this paper, we propose a rough set based anomaly detection method that efficiently identify malicious behavior of vehicle node activities in these VANETs, and the performance of a proposed scheme is evaluated by a simulation in terms of anomaly detection rate and false alarm rate for the threshold ${\epsilon}$.

Quick and safe message transmission is an important research topic of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET). Most studies assume that the periodic broadcast of beacon-frames between vehicles increases the safety of the driver. In this paper, we propose a medium access control (MAC) protocol and location-based clustering for the VANET to support reliable data transfer. In our proposal, the cluster heade (CH) manage the access and allocate the resources of the node. Our proposal uses simulation to confirm the reduction of the transmission delay and the collision rate of the signal.

With the rapid development of vehicular ad hoc Network (VANET), it has gained significant popularity and received increasing attentions from both academics and industry communities in aspects of security and efficiency. To address the security and efficiency issues, a self-authentication and deniable efficient group key agreement protocol is proposed in this paper. The scheme establishes a group between road side units (RSUs) and vehicles by using self-authentication without certification authority, and improves certification efficiency by using group key (GK) transmission method. At the same time, to avoid the attacker attacking the legal vehicle by RSUs, we adopt deniable group key agreement method to negotiation session key (sk) and use it to transmit GK between RSUs. In addition, vehicles not only broadcast messages to other vehicles, but also communicate with other members in the same group. Therefore, group communication is necessary in VANET. Finally, the performance analysis shows superiority of our scheme in security problems, meanwhile the verification delay, transmission overheard and message delay get significant improvement than other related schemes.

A geographical routing protocol is typically utilized for a route selection of VANET. Even if it is conceptually well adapted into VANET, message delivery tends to be unreliable with frequent network partitions, which mainly come from the inherent characteristics such as high mobility and irregular traffic density. In this paper, we deal with a method to enable reliable message delivery with reflecting the traffic density on routing decision. By concatenating the message delivery cost of each of inbetween junction section, $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ shortest paths are initially determined. When it is not possible to deliver the message on a junction on the 1st path, we utilize two novel ideas, that is, letting the message stay on the junction to find out a new relay node, and putting a replicated copy to reach via a detour path. By using the NS-2 network simulator, our method has been examined in terms of message delivery rate and delay. It shows that our method is much efficient than the other method in the low density environment, while it brings similar results in the high density environment.

Most Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) applications rely heavily on broadcast transmission of traffic related information to all reachable nodes within a certain geographical area. Among various broadcast approaches, flooding is the first broadcasting technique. Each node rebroadcasts the received message exactly once, which results in broadcast storm problems. Some mechanisms have been proposed to improve flooding in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET), but they are not effective for VANET and only a few studies have addressed this issue. We propose two distance-based and timer-based broadcast suppression techniques: 15P(15percent) and slotted 15P. In the first (distance based) scheme, node's transmission range is divided into three ranges (80%,15%and5%). Only nodes within 15% range will rebroadcast received packet. Specific packet retransmission range (15%) is introduced to reduce the number of messages reforwarding nodes that will mitigate the broadcaststorm. In the second (timer-based) scheme, waiting time allocation for nodes within 15% range isused to significantly reduce the broadcaststorm. The proposed schemes are distributed and reliedon GPS information and do not requireany other prior knowledge about network topology. To analyze the performance of proposed schemes, statistics such as link load and the number of retransmitted nodes are presented. Our simulation results show that the proposed schemes can significantly reduce link load at high node densities up to 90 percent compared to a simple broadcast flooding technique.
Emergency Warning Service will be the most important service of VANET. Transmission delay is the most important performance criteria of the warning service. Most legacy research takes a way to minimize the packet collision. However those approach has a critical weak point on urban environment where there is a blind area of electric wave. So another issue is required in order to provide enhanced warning message propagation technique to overcome the urban environment problem. In this paper, I proposed an enhanced warning message propagation scheme in the poor electric wave environment as the intersection area. Proposed scheme forwards the warning message to the blind area by enhanced forwarding node selection technique. For efficiency of warning message propagation, I suggest forwarding priority for decision of forwarding node. And the node has a direct mode or redirect mode depending on neighbor nodes. The simulation was carried out to evaluate the performance. The simulation results show that proposed scheme has the superior performance compared to legacy warning message technique.

In this paper, we propose the AMBM(: Adaptive Multi-channel Backoff Machisum) -Mac protocol to provide high throughput for non-safety applications in VANET(: Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks) environment. The proposed protocol guarantees the quality of service of non-safety packets by dynamically adjusting CW(: Channel Window) of WSA(: WAVE Service Advertisement) to maximize throughput between non-safety packets of different priority. It also shows that allocating a large amount of time for channel coordination and time slot reservation for SC and dynamically adjusting CW and CCI as nodes increase to reduces transmission delay than IEEE 1609.9, C-MAC(: Coordinated multi-channel MAC, and Q-VCI(: QoS Variable CCH Interval) protocols.

In VANETs (Vehicular Ad hoc NETwork), conditional anonymity must be provided to protect privacy of vehicles while enabling authorities to identify misbehaving vehicles. To this end, previous systems provide a mechanism to revoke the anonymity of individual messages. In VANET, if we can trace the movement path of vehicles, it can be useful in determining the liability of vehicles in car accidents and crime investigations. Although route tracing can be provided using previous message revocation techniques, they violate privacy of other vehicles. In this paper, we provide a route tracing technique that protects privacy of vehicles that are not targeted. The proposed method can be employed independently of the authentication mechanism used and includes a mechanism to prevent authorities from abusing this new function.

Recently, traffic congestion and environmental pollution have occurred due to population concentration and vehicle increase in large cities. Various studies are being conducted to solve these problems. Most of the traffic congestion in cities is caused by traffic signals at intersections. This paper proposes a dynamic traffic light control (DTLC) scheme to support safe vehicle operation and smooth traffic flow using real-time traffic information based on VANET. DTLC receives instantaneous speed and directional information of each vehicle through road side units (RSUs) to obtain the density and average speed of vehicles for each direction. RSUs deliver this information to traffic light controllers (TLCs), which utilize it to dynamically control traffic lights at intersections. To demonstrate the validity of DTLC, simulations were performed on average driving speed and average waiting time using the ns-2 simulator. Simulation results show that DTLC can provide smooth traffic flow by increasing average driving speed at dense intersections and reducing average waiting time.

Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is considered to be a subclass of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET). It has some challenges and issues of privacy which require to be solved before practical implementation of the system i.e., location preservation privacy. Many schemes have been proposed. The most prominent is pseudonym change based location preservation scheme. Safety message can be compromised when it sends via a wireless medium, consequently, an adversary can eavesdrop the communication to analyze and track targeted vehicle. The issue can be counter by use of pseudo identity instead of real and their change while communication proves to be a sufficient solution for such problems. In this context, a large amount of literature on pseudonym change strategies has been proposed to solve such problems in VANET. In this paper, we have given details on strategies proposed last two decades on pseudonym change based location preservation along with issues that they focus to resolve and try to give full understanding to readers.
