A Study on the Treatment of Combine Electron Beam in the Treatment of Breast Cancer Tumor Bed (유방암 Tumor bed 치료 시 혼합 전자선 치료 방법에 대한 고찰)

  • Purpose: The usefulness of using single-electron radiation for secondary radiotherapy of breast cancer patients after surgery is assessed and the use of a combine of different energy. Methods and materials : In this study, 40 patients (group A) using energy 6 MeV and 9 MeV, and 19 patients (group B) using a combine of 9 MeV and 12 MeV were studied among 59 patients who performed secondary care using combine electronic radiation. Each patient in each group, 6 MeV, 9 MeV, Combine(6 MeV / 9 MeV) and 9 MeV, 12 MeV, Combine (9 MeV / 12 MeV) were developed in different ways, and the maximum doses delivered to the original hospital, D95, D5, and $V_3$, $V_5$, $V_{10}$ were compared. Result: The D95 mean value of Group A treatment plan was $785.33{\pm}225.37cGy$, $1121.79{\pm}87.02cGy$ at 9 MeV, and $1010.98{\pm}111.17cGy$ at 6 MeV / 9 MeV, and the mean value at 6 MeV / 9 MeV was most appropriate for the dose. The mean values of the low dose area $V_3$ and $V_5$ in the lung of the breast direction being treated were $3.24{\pm}3.49%$ and $0.72{\pm}1.55%$ at 6 MeV, the highest 9 MeV at $7.25{\pm}4.59%$, $3.07{\pm}2.64%$, the lowest at 6 MeV. Maximum and average lung dose was $727.78{\pm}137.27cGy$ at 6 MeV / 9 MeV, $49.16{\pm}24.44cGy$, highest 9 MeV at $998.97{\pm}114.35cGy$, $85.33{\pm}41.18cGy$, and lowest 6 MeV at $387.78{\pm}208.88cGy$, $9.27{\pm}6.60cGy$. The value of $V_{10}$ was all close to zero. Group B appeared in the pattern of Group A. Conclusion: Relative differences in low-dose areas of the lungs $V_3$ and $V_5$ were seen and were most effective in the dose transfer of tumor bed in the application of combined energy. It is thought that the method of using electronic energy in further radiation treatments for breast cancer is a more effective way to use the energy effect of limiting energy resources, and that if you think about it again, it could be a little more beneficial radiation treatment for patients.

Laccase Production Using Pleurotus ostreatus 1804 Immobilized on PUF Cubes in Batch and Packed Bed Reactors: Influence of Culture Conditions

  • The feasibility of laccase production by immobilization of Pleurotus ostreatus 1804 on polyurethane foam (PUF) cubes with respect to media composition was studied in both batch and reactor systems. Enhanced laccase yield was evidenced due to immobilization. A relatively high maximum laccase activity of 312.6 U was observed with immobilized mycelia in shake flasks compared to the maximum laccase activity of free mycelia (272.2 U). It is evident from this study that the culture conditions studied, i.e. biomass level, pH, substrate concentration, yeast extract concentration, $Cu^{2+}$ concentration, and alcohol nature, showed significant influence on the laccase yield. Gel electrophoretic analysis showed the molecular weight of the laccase produced by immobilized P. ostreatus to be 66 kDa. The laccase yield was significantly higher and more rapid in the packed bed reactor than in the shake flask experiments. A maximum laccase yield of 392.9 U was observed within 144 h of the fermentation period with complete glucose depletion.

  • 본 논문에서는 5kW급 가정용 DC급전 시스템을 모의하고 시스템 도입 시 발생 가능한 문제점을 실증하기 위하여 5kW급 가정용 DC급전 Test-Bed를 시뮬레이션 및 제작한다. 가정용 DC급전에 필요한 DC link를 5kW급 PWM 컨버터를 이용하여 380V의 고전압 DC link를 구성하고 1kW급 위상 천이 컨버터를 이용하여 12V의 저전압 DC link를 구성하여 고전압, 저전압 DC급전 상황을 비교 분석할 수 있게 한다. 또한 모터 구동 부하를 모의하기 위한 2kW급 인버터를 추가하여 부하 환경에 따라 DC급전 시스템에서 발생 가능한 문제점을 유도할 수 있도록 한다.

Influence on Composting of Waste Mushroom Bed from Agaricus bisporus by using Mixed Organic Materials (혼용자재 특성이 양송이 폐상배지를 이용한 퇴비제조에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to select organic materials (OM) and nitrogen sources in composting of waste mushroom bed from Agaricus bisporus. We examined physio-chemical properties of the organic materials and the mixture ratio for preparing the wasted mushroom bed (M) compost. The carbon content of sawdust was higher than those of rice straw (R) as OM source and the nitrogen content was high in the order of fowl manure (F)>> pig manure (P)> cow manure (C). The compost was prepared to maintain the criteria of above 25% organic matter and then the change of their ingredients was estimated during the process of fermentation. The temperature of waste mushroom bed+pig manure+rice straw (MRP) treatment was varied fast throughout fermentation, on the other hand the temperature of waste mushroom bed+pig manure+sawdust (MSP) treatment was steadily elevated to the middle of composting. The pH of the compost was somewhat high to pH 8.5~9.0 at the early stage, but decreased to 7.5 at the end stage of composting. The content of OM after fermentation was decreased to the level of 19~21% in rice straw, but the sawdust treatment maintained 25~27% organic matter. The waste mushroom bed+fowl manure+rice straw (MRF) treatment, which contains 26.2% organic matter and 0.68% nitrogen, was the highest among them. The volume of compost was reduced to 50% by using rice straw as organic matter, but reduced to 30% by using the sawdust. The contents of heavy metal in the compost were suitable within the legal criteria. The number of microorganisms were higher in the rice straw than those in the sawdust. It was high in the order of fowl manure> pig manure> cow manure. The major groups consisted of aerobic bacteria, gram negative bacteria and Bacillus sp. and their populations after fermentation were increased to $1{\times}10^1{\sim}1{\times}10^2\;cfu\;g^{-1}$ rather than those before fermentation. Therefore we concluded that the waste mushroom bed+fowl manure+sawdust (MSF 3:9:1 v/v/v) treatment was suitable combination for high organic matter and nitrogen source, and the periods of composting were 50~60 days.

Biofilm Processes for Volume Decrease in Recirculating Water Treatment Systems for Aquaculture

  • The engineering aspect of water treatment processes in the recirculating aquaculture system was studied. To recycle the water in the aquaculture system, a wastewater treatment process was required to maintain high water quality for the growth and health of the cultured fish. In this study, three different biofilm processes were used to reduce the concentration of organic matters and ammonia from the recirculating water - two phase fluidized bed, three phase fluidized bed, and trickling filter. The objectives of this research were to evaluate the optimum treatment conditions of the biofilm processes for the recirculating aquaculture system, and thereby reduce the volume of biofilm processes, which are commonly used for the recycle water treatment processes for aquaculture. The result of this study showed that the removal efficiency of organic matters by trickling filter was found to be lower than that of the fluidized bed. In the trickling filter system, anthracite showed better organic removal efficiency than crushed stone as a media. In the two phase fluidized bed, the maximum removal efficiency of either organics or ammonia was obtained when both the packing rate of media was maintained to $40\%$ of total reactor depth excepting sediment zone and the bed expansion rate was maintained to $100\%$. When 100 tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) of each average 200g was reared, the pollutant production rate was 0.07g $NH_4\;^+-N/kg$ fish/day and 0.06g P04-3-P/kg fish/day, and sludge production rate was 0.39 g SS/kg fish/day. In the two phase and three phase fluidized bed, the volume of water treatment tank could be calculated from an empirical equation by using the relationship between the influent COD to $NH_4\;^+-N$ ratio (C/N, -), media concentration (Cm, g/L), influent ammonia nitrogen concentration (Ni, mg/L), effluent ammonia nitrogen concentration (Ne, mg/L), bed expansion rate $(E,\;\%)$, and influent flowrate $(Q,\;m^3/hr)$. The Influence of Bakers' Yeast Cells on Protein Adsorption in Anion Exchange Expanded Bed Chromatography

  • The adsorption of a model protein bovine serum albumin (BSA) in expanded bed chromatography was undertaken by exploiting a commercially available expanded bed column (20 mm i.d.) from UpFront Chromatography and Streamline DEAE $(\rho=1.2g/cm^3)$ from Amersham Pharmacia Biotechnology. The influence of whole yeast cells on the adsorption capacity of column was explored by employing yeast cells in a concentration ranged of 0 to $15\%(w/v)$. Equilibrium isotherms for adsorption of BSA on Streamline DEAE were correlated by using Langmuir equation. The presence of yeast cells resulted in decreased of BSA binding capacity in both batch binding and expanded bed chromatography. Results indicated that the yeast cells act as competitor for proteins to bind to the sites on adsorbents.

Gametophyte Propagation and Sporophyte Formation of Asian Chain Fern [Woodwardia japonica (L. f.) Sm.] Under Various Medium Conditions In Vitro and Ex Vitro

  • This study investigated a suitable method that could be applied for Asian chain fern [Woodwardia japonica (L. f.) Sm.] to propagate gametophytes and promote sporophyte formation. The gametophytes used in all experiments were obtained from germinated spores in vitro and were subcultured at 8-week intervals. The most appropriate media for gametophyte propagation was identified by culturing 300 mg of gametophyte in Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium (1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2), and Knop medium for 8 weeks. As a result, fresh weight of the gametophyte was increased by 56.7-fold on MS medium. Moreover, antheridium formation as well as gametophyte growth was improved on MS medium, especially. To improve the sporophyte formation ex vitro, 1.0 g of gametophyte was ground with distilled water and spread on eight combinations onto four different culture mediums, such as bed soil, peat moss, perlite and decomposed granite. Then generation and growth of sporophytes were investigated after cultivation for 10 weeks. As a result of this experiment, peat moss had a promotive effect of sporophyte formation at single-use and mixed culture soils. In particular, a mixture of bed soil, peat moss and perlite in a 1:1:1 ratio (v/v/v) led to the accelerated formation (782.5 ea/pot) and the frond growth of sporophytes. This included increases in length and width of fronds. However, promotive effect of gametophyte growth and sporophyte formation was not found at single-use and treatment with high ratio of bed soil.

Evaluation of PET Image for Fluorine-18 and Gallium-68 using Phantom in PET/CT (PET/CT에서 Phantom을 이용한 Fluorine-18, Gallium-68 방사성 핵종의 PET 영상 평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare PET imaging performance with Fluorine-18 ($^{18}F$) and Gallium-68 ($^{68}Ga$) for influence of physical properties of PET tracer. Measurement were performed on a Siemens Biograph mCT64 PET/CT scanner using NEMA IEC body phantom and Flangeless Esser PET phantom containing filled with $^{18}F$ and $^{68}Ga$. Emission scan duration(ESD) was set to 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5min/bed for $^{68}Ga$ and 1min/bed for $^{18}F$. The PET image were evaluated in terms of contrast, spatial resolution. Under same condition, The percentage of contrast recovery measured in the phantom ranged from 16.88% to 72.56% for $^{68}Ga$ and from 27.51% to 74.43% for $^{18}F$ and The FWHM value to evaluate spatial resolution was 10.96 mm for $^{68}Ga$ and 9.19 mm for $^{18}F$. For this study, $^{18}F$ produces better image contrast and spatial resolution than $^{68}Ga$ due to higher positron yield and lower positron energy ($^{18}F$: 96.86%, 633.5 keV, $^{68}Ga$: 88.9%, 1899 keV), The physical properties of PET tracer effect on the PET image. $^{68}Ga$ image applying ESD of 3, 4, 5min/bed were showed similar to $^{18}F$ image with ESD of 1min/bed. This study suggests that increasing ESD for acquiring $^{68}Ga$ PET image seem to be similar to $^{18}F$ image.

  • SMB (simulated moving bed) chromatography is a very useful utility for the separation of binary system. We simulated the separation of L-arabinose and L-ribose from the mixture by using lab-scale 4(1-1-1-1)-zone SMB chromatography. Preliminary experiments of PIM (pulse input method) were performed to measure adsorption isotherms of L-ribose and L-arabinose in $NH_2$ HPLC column, and experimental and simulated results from ASPEN chromatography were compared. To find the most suitable separation condition in SMB, we carried out a simulation in $m_2-m_3$ plane base on the triangle theory and calculated operating parameters (flow rate of four zone, switching time and feed concentration and so on) using ASPEN chromatography under the conditions of linear isotherms obtained from PIM.

The Effect of Lateral Approximations on the Survival of the Free Composite Flap (이식편의 측면접합이 복합조직이식의 생존에 미치는 영향)

  • Non-vascularized free composite graft is one of the simple and effective reconstructive options, but its clinical use has been limited due to questionable survival rate. Early vascularization is essential for graft survival and is mainly carried out via recipient bed or repaired sites. This study was designed to investigate the effect of the lateral marginal approximations on the survival of the free composite flap using a model of skin-subcutaneous composite graft in rats. Thirty 1.5 ${\times}$ 1.5 $cm^2$ sized square shape composite flaps were elevated freely and reposed in place immediately on the dorsum of five Sprague-Dawley rats, and divided into five groups of six flaps. In all groups, graft bed was isolated with silastic sheet. In the group I, all sides of flap were repaired with blockage of silastic sheet insertion. Three, two, and one sides of flap were treated with same method in the group II, III, and IV respectively. Other sides of flaps were repaired without blockage, so all sides of flap were repaired in the group V. At 14 days later, the survived rate of each flap was evaluated according to the numbers of the repair sites. Histological examination was done for the evaluation of new vessel development quantitatively. Overall survived rates were increased with the number of repaired sites, but the group V only showed increased survival rate up to more than fifty percentile of the flap size with a significant difference statistically. New vessels were also increased in proportion with the number of repaired sites, and the repair site more than two had significant effect on the increased number of new vessels. In conclusion, at least more than three-fourth of flap circumference should be repaired in order to increase flap survival effectively under the condition of bed isolation.
